Chapter 1416: Heading Home
After dinner we all retired for a little to get the proper rest we would need, and after the very clear warning that there should be no shenanigans between the sheets - said by everyone else, not me - lest someone end up incapable of walking and or being below par tomorrow we were instead just sitting around in our tent looking at one another.
Obviously we didn't fully follow that warning, and by that I meant it was impossible for someone to not want and or offer to orally pleasure someone else if we all knew it was beneficial at the time, and it was during this fun that Jahi continued to pamper me in hopes of earning my favor again.
For now it worked but I made it clear she had far more she needed to do in order to make it up to me after we got back home, and that I wasn't going to be happy with just some small action or gift that she could do or get with little thought.
She needed to actually think this through completely and be sincere, and despite the clear irritation that this was being prolonged that much she still accepted and just started by cuddling me and enjoying having me in her arms while my neck and face were free for her to kiss as she pleased.
By the time morning rolled around everyone had been sufficiently taken care of by me and someone else before we all agreed that we were well overdue for an entire day of insanity when we returned, specifically that Leone was going to need to brew something strong for everyone...
That got us all excited and yearning to be home already, but there was an entire continent between us and home, which was filled to the brim with all sorts of dangers and challenges that would ensure we were at least four days away from home, if not a week.
It was during that time that Lady Fenyras expressed her interest many times in coming back, that Draka made it clear she was staying in her Duchy for as long as she possibly could and that Mom was somewhere in the middle, clearly liking the challenges we had come across but definitely not enjoying the time away from Mother or Mother Ria... and obviously her new daughters.
It was also during this time that Lilith expressed her own opinions as well, but hers were somewhat scathing as she made it abundantly clear she was very concerned that Jahi had locked ALL of us from ascending and not just herself or us.
Her thirst for knowledge and desire to continue to improve no matter what was clearly leading to her agitated state right now, and while the mildly barbed words she used did hurt a little they were also completely understandable to all of us, though...
Because of that I had no issue at all pointing out that she had lived a very, very long life already and that any of her potential might have been squeezed out and or dried up completely by now, on top of her being so accustomed to everything here that ascension might have led to certain death for her.
That wasn't appreciated at first but it did quiet her down a little, and after we both shared an apology the journey home continued in relatively peaceful quiet as we just walked, kept our senses heightened and did our best to avoid anything and everything.
The herbs that repelled most monsters had been stockpiled so much thanks to our magic that we were able to burn far more of it now than we had before, and with Lilith's marker waiting on the mountain entrance inside of the Empire we were able to travel in a 'straight line' back home.
Since it was the Labyrinthian it wasn't at all surprising to see that our precautions and hopes were dashed repeatedly by random monster hordes or shifting weather conditions that derailed us, nor were the random environments that were chock full of ravenous mana as rare as before since we ran into five of them instead of just the one.
Sandstorms, blizzards, flaming tornadoes, earthquakes and so much more attempted to break us down on this journey, and on top of that the packs of canine or feline monsters that stalked us, the winged beasts above or the tunneling worms below constantly kept us on our toes no matter how safe we thought we might be in this area.
Walking for the entire day with the occasional break to rest on the carriage and recuperate - or to down however many potions we were willing to mix together - took its toll quickly, but it was both tolerable and necessary as we pushed ourselves as much as we could so that we could get back to the Empire as soon as we possibly could.
Proper bedding and having someone else cook for me was what was really driving me right now, and I imagine the promise of private rooms shared with loved ones kept everyone else's spirits high as well despite the monotonous slug we had to endure.
Thankfully the journey was relatively 'uneventful' now that we had gotten stronger, allowing for it to pass by somewhat quickly mentally since it was rather dull and continuous; that had us standing at the edge of the Labyrinthian before we knew it, and seeing those towering mountains above was just...
I could've cried then and there and no one would have questioned me, but crying would make walking through the mountains harder so I held them back and just kept going, heading for the outpost outside and preparing to board one of the many carriages waiting for us.
Sleep was immediately consuming me the moment we plopped down in a different carriage pulled and protected by other people, and even though it just felt like a momentary fade to black before we were back at the Capital it was the most refreshing and enjoyable sleep I had ever had.
Because the moment I opened my eyes all I saw was the black mountain that the Palace resided on, and knowing that my family was just up there - as well as an army of servants to tend to my needs on top of it being impenetrable - made it easy for a few tears to roll down my cheeks as sheer elation flooded my veins.
