My Servant System

Chapter 1404: No Hesitation

Valid points were made and the decision was drawn up to a group vote once again, with no surprise at all coming from who voted which way; Draka didn't want to be dragged into yet another dangerous situation while Lady Fenyras was practically egging us on the entire time.

It really didn't surprise me that we were now on the prowl hunting for the Elves and their new Arch Fiend companion, but I still held my own misgivings for actively searching for a fight against people we didn't have any information on.

Who knows what progress they had made after so long away from us, and Cali telling us that they could have gotten even stronger thanks to them allowing the Arch Fiend - who they had likely contracted themselves to - direct access to their bodies to extract any Lust energy right from the source.

That would make everything they did together all the better for their improvements since the interactions were amplified by that direct access, but still I was hopeful that the time we had spent here far outweighed there own and that Cali was capable of handling the Arch Fiend that they had found for themselves.

Hopefully she wasn't just over inflating her own worth to me over and over again whenever I had tried to pry into the workings of the Fiend power rankings, and hopefully all of the other Fiends we had encountered weren't doing the same for her out of some weird respect or something...

Ignoring the 'hurt' look she gave me upon thinking that, I just focused on the streets around me as I continued to search for any signs of the Elves, walking just behind Jahi and Mom as they took the vanguard positions while Lady Fenyras and Lilith remained at the back.

The idea of facing an Arch Fiend in battle diverted the Demon Wolf's attention from me as she instead focused on the 'juicy' battle ahead, one that I was hoping she might not even have to take.

I still understood why we were here, and I was able to understand the logic behind their - Jahi and Leone specifically - argument as to why we should be here, but I still believed it best to just take what we had been given and cut loose now.

Why take a risk on something we were completely uncertain about..?

But I also wasn't going to lie to myself and say that the idea of ending this once and for all wasn't appealing to me, hence why I was out here with them and not 'fighting' them still back at the camp.

How long we were going to have to search wasn't even something any of us wanted to consider either, and since there was the possibility of them being in a Trial right now all the hope was on them finishing it sometime soon since otherwise we could be here for a long, long time.

Perhaps fate was 'smiling' on us, or maybe now that we were aware of their presence we were actually able to locate them with ease, but either way it didn't actually take that long for us to catch on to the trail they had left behind, allowing us to pursue them swiftly as we rushed through the silent and still city streets as fast as we could.

There was no plan in play, no attempt to be methodical or smart about this, just raw speed and power in hopes of ending this before it could even begin, to crush them here and now so that we could be free of their potential threat for the rest of our lives.

As such there was no hiding our approach, and none of us were at all surprised when Cali just told us that they had sensed us and were heading up onto the rooftops, taking the high ground and giving us an option.

We could keep using the streets to get closer and closer before they could really see us, or we could jump up now as well and start the battle early; both had pros and cons, and both were extremely valid-

Jahi was the first to leap up onto the rooftops, followed immediately by Lady Fenyras, leaving the rest of us to look at one another for a split second before we too joined them above the city, where we were greeted with the sight of two people we never wanted to see again.

The brown haired, sharp faced Elf looked almost the same as before; her brown eyes were as hard as rock, her long, pointed ears gave away her heritage while the long brown hair was pulled into a simple yet effective ponytail.

A sharp coat draped over some thin yet enchanted leather armor helped conceal most of her arsenal from immediate sight, though her long, jagged blade was already in her hand, steady and glittering with all sorts of magics already.

Beside her was the sun kissed, green haired mage that had been the brains behind their entire operation, holding onto a gorgeous staff that hummed with mana as she smirked at us, watching us closely and searching for any immediate move.

Both of them were ready for combat, but the pink skinned woman floating around behind them was as relaxed and unbothered as our own, causing us and them to frown slightly since that was immediately worrisome, for a few reasons.

"Prumstu, how quaint... I thought I recognized that stench~! How's it been, old~ friend~?"

Cali's voice dripped with faux sweetness as she drifted off to the side, freeing herself from our formation and beckoning for this other Arch Fiend to do the same, which she did after a moment of contemplation.

"It's been a long, long time, one where I was actually content not having your buzzing in my ears. Still don't understand that you aren't the end all be all of us Sla Fiends, Caligo? Shall I remind you of that?"

Immediately the two were in a 'battle' of their own, one that I wanted to observe but couldn't since there were two more pressing matters right in front of me, both of whom were smirking like they weren't at a severe disadvantage.
