Chapter 1257: The Center (1)
"What in the..."
Even Lady Fenyras was at a relative loss for words, the Demon Wolf staring up at the floating landmass with her single silver eye flooded with confusion and wonder at even this rather bland introductory look at what apparently was the center of the Labyrinthian.
"Welcome to the center~! All of you are as flabbergasted as I was when I managed to reach this point, but what awaits us up above... well... I do hope you are excited to see what is up above~!"
I nodded slowly as I stared at the chiseled rock, before turning towards the nearby chains and wondering if the carriage was able to come with us or not, and if it could how were we going to get it so far into the sky..?
The answer was quite obvious though as I studied the chains just a little, those giant rings that connected together to anchor the landmass to the earth resting just close enough together to fit some kind of sturdy material that acted as a long ramp leading towards the top.
Because it was so high in the air, we couldn't see what actually sat on the land up above us, so we weren't aware of what we were going to be getting ourselves into; only Lilith knew that, and she was being as forthcoming as always... which is to say she refused to answer any questions at all.
It was so high in the air that the clouds acted as an ocean around it, turning it into a true floating island that made me feel somewhat giddy as an overwhelming sense of curiosity and the desire to explore began to fill my heart, dashing away all of the prior misgivings, anger and frustration that I had been dealing with.
Now I was just excited and filled with wonder as we looked upwards, but where I was a little content to just stare at the gorgeous piece of natural phenomenon the others were wanting far more, which meant heading on over to the bridge and beginning our ascent up into the clouds.
"This really is just... holy hells..."
"Respectfully, Lady Lilith, if you had just led with 'I discovered a flying island in the Labyrinthian and require assistance' you would have gotten all the support you could have needed and then some."
We all glanced at Dragonkin for a moment before turning towards Lilith, who just chuckled and shrugged her shoulders like always as she replied "But where is the fun in that, hm~?", continuing to reaffirm what we already knew of her whenever she possibly could.
"Besides, there's more to it than just the floating landmass above that spurred me into action. Let's just head on up first, alright? I promise you it gets far more interesting when we get up there... and the view is to die for~!"
Lilith began to make her way over to the bridge, not waiting for us and stepping foot onto the crystalline surface as she began her ascent into the clouds, spurring us on to move as quickly as possible lest something happen to either her or us. Experience tales with My Virtual Library Empire
Both of the Demonesses grabbed ahold of the carriage and began to lug it over towards the bridge while the rest of us took up formation around it, protecting them and it as we stepped onto the bridge as well.
That crystalline material was thick and stable, and yet it still felt odd using something like this as a ground to walk on since it was somewhat transparent, letting us look down into the giant pit below that had once been where the landmass had resided.
Feeling the raw mana pouring out of this wound on the earth brush against our skin was both exhilarating and terrifying, this power that was just being released at random and with no purpose being strong enough to potentially damage the skin if we weren't as strong as we were being that perfect example.
Where else could we experience something like this, but where else was the world just attempting to kill us by simply existing in its presence?
It was unique, it was fascinating, and it was horrifying to realize that the pit we couldn't see the bottom of was actually releasing this much mana this consistently without destroying the lands around it, which meant that below us was an actual life spring of the world exposed to whomever might stumble across it.
Not the there was likely to be more than a handful of people who might have managed to get here and live to tell the tale, but still, it was quite horrifyingly fascinating to realize that so much power was waiting to be tapped into if someone was determined enough.
Just charging some of the world's largest Mana Crystals here would be enough to flip the power structure outside of these walls if given to the right people, let alone whatever materials were being formed on the side of the pit from all this mana.
And then there was the mystery of what was floating above us, and what could have made this powerful, ancient woman request us in particular to come and travel back here with her..?
I suppose that was going to be answered in a half hour or so after we ventured all the way up the very long, hopefully stable bridge that connected the ground of the floating island to true ground, and as we began our ascent I could tell that we were all feeling the same way.
Shuffling our feet and constantly checking the crystalline surface below us as we inspected it for any potential damages that would be caused by our combined weight made these thirty some odd minutes trickle by slowly as anxiety gnawed away at us, becoming a climb of both physical stamina and mental fortitude as we all prayed that we would make it.
This was one of those times where uneventful was a blessing, and the higher we went the less it was that, but thankfully it was in a good way as we were treated to a stunning view of something very few people in this world's entire history had likely ever seen.
