Chapter 32: Chapters 32
"Oh no!" Quinn is gaining weight! Her hips are getting wider, and her thighs are sexier. She needs to take it easy before she becomes a handful.
I can't tell Quinn about the dinner. She won't want to come anyway. It's all about the wealthy people, and she might feel uncomfortable.
I stroked her hair as she slept beside me. We're sharing my room now... Dad's advice, blah, blah, blah.
All this stress for being with her.
NEXT DAY
Work was cut short because of the dinner tonight. I went home to get ready. Maya and I would meet there. No strings attached. Just for her to follow me around and take notes. Quinn would have to understand if she found out.
I met Quinn in her room in a sexy blue dress. Oh my God! She looked so good. Her dress was shimmering, but where was she going?
"Hey, wifey, did you use the money in the briefcase to buy this pretty dress?" I asked her, holding her by her waist.
"No, someone gave it to me," she said, putting on her earrings.
"Oh, why are you wearing it now?" I asked with a confused look.
"I'm going to the annual dinner gathering, of course, with Brandon. I'm his partner," she blurted out and took her wedding ring off her finger.
What? What did she just say?
"What do you mean you're going with Brandon, that jerk?" I yelled angrily.
"I don't have to repeat myself, do I?" she said. "Tonight we're going to that dinner as two different people, not a couple," she added.
"You're a married woman, for goodness sake," I retorted.
"And you're not, right? I can't believe you didn't tell me about the dinner. Why? Because I'm a housewife? Because I didn't finish school? You don't want the world to know we're married?" she asked, hurt.
Oh, jeez. Why is she talking like this? She's misunderstanding me.
"That's not the reason. You're pregnant, so I thought it would be stressful for you. I didn't even think you'd be comfortable among strangers," I said.
"I'm not a child. You could have told me. Besides, it doesn't matter now. I'm going with Brandon. He invited me and bought me this dress," she said.
"You think I would let you go out with that scumbag?" I asked, amused.
"Stop calling him names! He's my friend," she retorted, throwing her ring on the table. What a difficult woman.
"You're not going out with that guy, and that's final," I stated.
She hit me on my chest. That hurts.
"Who are you to control me, you cheater! You're going with your escort, and here you are trying to stop me from doing what I want?!" she yelled angrily.
She's stressing the baby. "Stop yelling. Just calm down," I said, trying to touch her.
"Stay away from me!" She pushed me away and stormed out of the room. How can she go out with that guy?
AT THE GATHERING
Maya and I arrived at the big event. It was so luxurious, with chandeliers lighting up every corner. The whole hall was filled with wealthy billionaires and business tycoons.
Thank goodness Dad doesn't attend these types of events. They send representatives. I'm safe from his scolding. I haven't said a word to Maya since we sat down. I feel so uneasy with Quinn going out with that jerk I hate so much. He likes Quinn. I can feel it.
The event started, and that's when I was able to spot Quinn where she sat with the Brandon guy. They were talking, and Quinn couldn't stop laughing.
It was time for refreshments, and we were served a lot of delicacies, but I lost my appetite because of Quinn being with that rascal. I couldn't stop looking at her. She had her back to me, but I could still see her smooth, beautiful back. I messed up. Suddenly, Brandon took a white handkerchief and wiped something off her face. I went crazy! I have to set things right with my pregnant wife.
Quinn's POV
Brandon and I were in his limo outside the event center. The dinner was almost over, so we just stayed in the car. Brandon wanted to know so much about me.
I had to tell him my story. "We had sex, and then I became pregnant with his child. His dad and my mom made him marry me, although I like it. I love him, but he hates me. He's treated me badly ever since we got together as husband and wife. But I know after I give birth, he'll leave me," I mumbled.
"I'll leave him too," I added, so sad on the inside.
Brandon held my hand. "You're not alone, Lucy. I'll always be a phone call away. You have my number, right? Let's chat. I'll keep you busy and make you feel special."
"You're a beautiful and funny woman. You're a rare gem. Any man would be lucky to have you. I just want to let you know that once you leave that jerk, I want to have a shot with you."
"I like your personality, your smile... everything. And if Jake becomes too uncomfortable to live with, I'm open to a roommate," he stated, and I chuckled.
"Okay, thanks," I replied. He drew close, and our faces were so near.
Goosebumps!
He wants to kiss me. What do I do?
Joshua has cheated on me a dozen times. A kiss wouldn't make a difference. But after everything, I'm not good at cheating! I cleared my throat.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not used to sharing myself. If we can really be together, it'll be after my divorce from Joshua," I stated.
He exhaled sharply and smiled cutely. "I'm okay with that. Let's get you home so you can rest," he said and told the driver to take us home.
Quinn's POV
Brandon stopped in front of my house. I got out and went inside, getting ready to face Joshua's anger. I prayed he wasn't home yet. I didn't want to see his annoying, wicked face.
I walked past the living room and saw him at the wine counter. He looked drunk and disheveled. I ignored him, acting like he wasn't there. I went to my room.
Joshua's POV
How could Quinn intentionally do this to me? She's comfortable going out with that jerk, overlooking the fact that she's pregnant. It irritates me, and I'm so angry right now! I didn't even sleep upstairs. I went to the guestroom and had a bath, then put on the clothes I found there.
I'll ignore her until she's forced to apologize to me. My dad is a billionaire. His heir, for that matter. If Quinn thinks she can break me into begging her, then she's dreaming. When I was five years old, I knew nothing. I took Dad's gun and mistakenly fired it at my math tutor whom I hated. She lost an eye. I was forced to apologize, at least after Dad paid her hospital bills, but I refused, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
THE NEXT MORNING
I had to go upstairs to get my suit and other things I'd need for the office. I bumped into Quinn on the way, and I just walked past her, and she did the same. A good wife should have apologized. Where are my apologies? I went to my room and got ready for work. When I was done, I went downstairs. One of the maids came to me. She bowed and greeted me.
"Good morning, sir, breakfast is ready," she informed me. I just nodded, looking at Quinn, who was on the sofa with a remote, watching a movie so early. I left the maid and walked to the living room. I grabbed my phones. I noticed Quinn was also ignoring my presence. She acted like I wasn't there at all. So she also wants to be tough. Stubborn woman. I left for the office after a short breakfast.
A FEW DAYS LATER
Quinn and I had been giving each other the silent treatment for three days. She hadn't spoken to me, and neither had I, and I know she's angry with me. I was a little drunk because I went to my best friend's place, and we drank away our sorrows. I was on my way to my room to sleep soundly when I saw Quinn's phone on the table. It vibrated, and I picked it up.
Let's see what my wife is up to. I unlocked her phone. Her password was "baby." I went to her recent activities. I entered her WhatsApp. Oh, my God! Messages from Brandon. She was chatting with him, even at midnight. I felt so angry! Is she having an extramarital affair?
