Chapter 216: The Art of the Deal
Despite her nonsense, I couldn't harden my heart. Even though we had been together for over a year, she had indeed changed a lot for me.
I was not a magnanimous man, but I was not petty either. She had already gone this far; if I kept holding grudges, I'd be truly narrow-minded.
"Forget the hospital. I'll check myself sometime."
She blushed. "You set the time."
Tonight was definitely out of the question. I said, "Maybe tomorrow or the day after."
"Can you add me back now?"
I took out my phone and accepted her friend request. She smiled with relief. I said, "If this happens again, I'll block you."
"You're so petty and overbearing!"
"It's you who is foolish. If I don't respond on Facebook, can't you call me?"
I snorted. "I'm heading down. I have something to do this afternoon, and I might not make it back!"
"Are you going with Mia again?"
"Yeah."
"Ms. Smith gave me a task. I need to complete it as soon as possible. I'm leaving!"
"Wait a minute!"
"What now?"
She seemed a bit conflicted, opened her mouth, but couldn't speak. I knew she had something to say but was too proud to admit it.
Sure enough, her pride was ingrained.
"Nothing, you can go."
She looked a bit dejected. I could roughly guess what she wanted to say, so I said, "After completing the Walker Company project, I'll try to take you out."
Her face immediately brightened. "Really?"
"Depends on your performance."
After patting her nose, I left.
When I arrived at the BS Building, it was already ten in the morning. Fortunately, Holly and the others hadn't left yet.
"Everyone, pause your work for a moment. Saylor, call the people over here!"
The receptionist, Saylor, called everyone over. In the past two days, the company's recruitment had been fast, almost reaching full capacity. The marketing department had twenty people, and the public relations department had also recruited two eloquent, attractive people.
Next were the project department and the development team, which surprisingly had over thirty people, which I hadn't expected.
"Let me report on last week's work progress. We recruited fifteen people in the personnel department last week, exceeding the target. Here's the promised bonus of two hundred dollars!"
The HR personnel stepped forward, received the money, and excitedly said, "Thank you, Mr. Maine. Thank you for providing us with such a good platform. I will work hard in the future to recruit more outstanding talents for the company."
Applause thundered instantly.
"Next is Ms. Green. Through her training, all new employees have officially started working. Not only that, but last weekend, she led the staff to work overtime and successfully signed two deals, one for two thousand dollars and the other for five thousand dollars. Although the deals were small, they marked the first step in WY Media Company's milestone. This five hundred dollars is a reward for Ms. Green, and there are also two hundred dollars as rewards for each colleague who closed the deals!"
Mia, along with the two colleagues who closed the deals, came forward to receive the bonuses, their faces beaming with smiles. After expressing their gratitude, they left with their team.
One thousand dollars in bonuses were distributed, and everyone was eager. Company size didn't matter. As long as promises were kept, employees would surely be more enthusiastic.
I raised my hand to silence the applause. "Next is the hero of our WY Media Company. Manager Holly and her team, who, in just three days, secured deals with seven advertising partners, three new media channels, and three traditional media channels, reaching an audience of over thirty-five million!"
The applause almost lifted the ceiling.
The foundation of a media company lay in its strong promotional channels. Why did small businesses strive to advertise with big companies? Because big companies were powerful. Even if their prices were high and their service attitude was cold, clients still recognized their worth.
With an audience of thirty-five million, they could leverage this when negotiating future deals. However, companies like ours, without our own channels, would be more like intermediaries and mediators.
"In the future, our audience coverage will increase, and our partnership channels will be stronger. Manager Holly's goal is to reach an audience of two hundred million next month."
"Great!"
Claps resounded continuously. Many hands were swollen from clapping, but they continued, as a broad audience meant easier customer acquisition.
I took out three pieces of bonus, one worth two thousand dollars and the others worth one thousand dollars each.
The three individuals took the envelopes, all looking pleasantly surprised.
"Thank you, Mr. Maine. It's worth it. Mr. Maine, you're straightforward and keep your promises. Although we haven't known each other for long, I'm sure that following you won't lead to losses. In the future, I will stay with you, Mr. Maine, and I hope you all will firmly follow Mr. Maine's footsteps."
Holly was as concise as ever, as were the other two. Their words may have been simple but they were more touching.
I didn't know I was this good or charismatic, but being applauded by everyone felt really good.
The joy of the wealthy was indeed joyful.
Over five thousand dollars in bonuses were distributed, which was not yet enough to cover, but the investment now would surely yield returns in the future.
After the commendation meeting, Holly left the company with her team.
At that moment, Savannah arrived. "Mr. Maine, the case has been settled. Including legal fees, Philip has compensated a total of ten thousand dollars, which has been transferred to your account."
I nodded. I saw that Savannah was quite capable. It only took her three or four days, and most importantly, she was efficient. Even when I changed my mind at the last minute, she didn't inquire further.
I had promised one thousand dollars for the legal fees, but I gave her one thousand and five hundred dollars directly. Savannah said, "Mr. Maine, you've given me too much!"
"The excess is my reward."
I smiled and said, "Ms. Lee, are you interested in being my company's legal advisor?"
Savannah Lee's face lit up. "Mr. Maine, are you saying you want to hire me as the legal advisor for your esteemed company?"
"That's right," I nodded.
"Although my company is still small, we will inevitably encounter legal issues in the future. I prefer working with acquaintances rather than hiring new people. Besides, I also have a dance training company over at HT Plaza, which is larger than this one. I'm not sure if Lawyer Lee would be interested."
"I am. I am very interested."
"That's good. I'll reserve a position for you in the company. You don't need to report regularly, but you should be available whenever needed. In addition to the basic salary, there will be consultation fees and bonuses. But let's be clear, I can't offer you a high salary at the moment, but it will definitely increase in the future."
I believed she understood my implication.
Savannah Lee was still a newcomer to the legal industry, not a seasoned veteran. Truly exceptional lawyers could handle both criminal and civil cases. Such individuals wouldn't condescend to work for my small company, and those with a bit of reputation usually charge by the hour, which wouldn't be cost-effective.
Savannah Lee was good. Although she was still inexperienced, her future was promising.
She nodded and said, "I understand. Thank you for trusting me, Mr. Maine."
Then, I had the HR department draft an employment contract. After confirming everything was in order, Savannah Lee signed her name on the contract, officially becoming the legal advisor for WY Media Company and Dance All City.
Holding titles in two companies but only receiving payment from one was a very cost-effective deal.
At noon, I had fast food in the office with Mia Green. As an executive, I needed to maintain a distinction from ordinary employees.
After lunch, Mia Green came to my office wanting to be intimate with me.
I was somewhat disconcerted. "Mia, don't do this. The room's soundproofing isn't good. If we were to be intimate in the office and others hear us, it would be very embarrassing. You wouldn't want to be looked at differently, right?"
I knew she was particularly concerned about her image in front of the employees. At Skylight Group, she was just an ordinary employee, so it didn't matter much. But now, things were different. She was the director, and she even considered herself the future lady boss. The image was, of course, very important.
"Well, I'll listen to you," Mia said somewhat reluctantly.
"When WY Media Company develops, we'll rent a bigger office. We'll set up a lounge in the office. Whatever you want to do, I'll accompany you!"
"I don't want to be in the lounge. I want on the office desk. How about that?"
I couldn't help but feel a rush of desire. She was just too tempting.
After Mia left, I also left by car. Today, I had arranged to go on an outing with Lillian and the others.
Kelsey would definitely go. But would Mya be there too?
My heart raced.
Soon, the car slowly pulled into Sevan City University and stopped in front of the female dormitory. I called Lillian, and soon she popped her head out from the fourth floor. "William, you're here! Come up and help me with the luggage!"
