MY Masochistic CEO

Chapter 204 monumental promise

I even thought to myself, maybe I should immigrate to a country where polygamy is legal. Of course, it was just a thought. Even if I was willing, I'd need someone else's consent for that.

I bought some seasonal fruits and brought some gift boxes.

As soon as I entered, Dennis wheeled over in a wheelchair. "Brother-in-law William, you're here?"

If I had some resistance to this title before, I found it pleasing now.

"Is it okay living here?" I asked.

Dennis answered, "Although it's far from where I used to live, it's still better than that place."

I felt a bit awkward. This kid was as blunt as ever. If he weren't Lucy's brother, I wouldn't even give him a second glance if he were dying on the roadside.

"Just bear with it for now. In a while, we'll move to a better place," I suggested.

Lucy glared at Dennis. "Mind your own business!"

Dennis pursed his lips. "What do you mean 'mind your own business'? I just want mom to live in a better environment."

I couldn't be bothered to listen to his nonsense, so I walked into the bedroom. Brooke was still lying in bed, but she looked much better than before.

"Aunt Brooke, I've come to see you," I said.

"William is here," Brooke announced.

Brooke smiled. "I can't get up to greet you. Just make yourself comfortable."

I chatted with Brooke in the room for a while. At this moment, Lucy suddenly said, "Mom, I'm going back to William's hometown tomorrow to meet his parents!"

Brooke was stunned, then said, "You should be polite and leave a good impression on William's parents!"

Lucy said, "Okay. I've agreed with William Maine. If his parents don't mind, we'll get married!"

'What? When did I say anything like that to you?' I thought, on the verge of tears.

Before Brooke could say anything, Dennis rushed in. "What? William, are you going to register with Lucy?"

I said with a stiff smile, "Yes."

"That's great. We'll be a real family from now on," Dennis exclaimed.

Dennis said, "But some things still need to be said. If you want to marry Lucy, you have to give her one million dollars, buy her a villa and a million-dollar luxury car!"

"Dennis, stop it!" Lucy's face darkened. "This is a major event in my life. Who are you to make decisions for me?"

"I'm your brother. My opinion matters the most!" Dennis snorted. "Mom, be fair. I'm doing this for her good."

After a moment of silence, Brooke spoke. "I agree with your brother's words."

"Mom, how could you..." Lucy couldn't believe it.

Lucy said, "Even without William Maine, our family is still struggling. How can you do this?"

I said, "I understand what you mean, but I can't provide so much right now. I will do my best. Not for anything else, just to make you feel at ease. I will prove that I will make Lucy happy."

"William Maine, you...."

Brooke interjected, "William, thank you for understanding my concerns. I am grateful for what you have done for us, but kindness and marriage should not be mixed. I hope both of you will calm down and seriously consider this matter."

"You have seen our family situation." Brooke continued. "Marrying Lucy means marrying our whole family. I am like this, and my useless son is even more of a burden!"

"Mom!" Dennis couldn't take it anymore. "I am not a burden!"

"Without your sister Lucy, you would have died long ago, do you know that?" Brooke sternly said. "It's because I spoiled you that our family has encountered such a disaster. I really regret it!"

Dennis instantly fell silent.

"So, please consider this seriously. The dowry is also a bit of my selfishness, but rest assured, I won't take a single penny of it."

I said, "I will definitely consider it carefully. However, tomorrow, I still want to take Lucy home. I hope you agree!"

"William Maine!" Lucy's eyes were full of emotion.

"Ah!" Brooke sighed, "As long as you understand, you should take responsibility for your actions."

"Thank you, Auntie."

"Thank you, Mom!"

"Alright, I'm a bit tired and need to rest."

After that, she closed her eyes.

I left the room and entered Lucy's boudoir. She said, "William Maine, I'm sorry. I didn't expect my Mom... but don't worry, we can secretly get married."

I interrupted her. "What do you mean by secretly getting married? Are we doing something that can't be accepted by others?"

Lucy was speechless for a moment. "Then what do you suggest?"

"Your brother said one million dollars in cash, a villa, and a luxury car. Give me some time, and I will work hard to give you these things."

"Don't listen to him. He's just making trouble. He's afraid of me getting married, so I'll ignore him." Lucy said somewhat angrily. "If I hadn't cared, I wouldn't have saved him before!"

I didn't continue with this topic and asked, "I heard your mom mention something about your dad and your brother. What's the story?"

Lucy helplessly said, "My dad's matter is indeed closely related to Dennis. It can be said that half of our family's troubles stem from him. Dennis is just a good-for-nothing playboy. Because my mom spoiled him too much, coupled with my father's protection, he became more and more uncontrollable. He often hangs out with a group of friends, indulging in pleasure-seeking activities, surrounded by women changing every day. But one day, he inexplicably fell in love with a woman. At first, my mom thought someone could restrain him and was happy, but little did she know, that was the beginning of our family's nightmare. That woman is not from Sevan City but came to visit relatives and friends from Nightfall City. Later, we found out that she is the daughter of the mayor of Nightfall City!"

The mayor of Nightfall City!

It was one of the few first-tier cities in the country, and it had a very important geographical location, ahead of Sevan City.

Lucy continued, "She and my brother's archenemy are relatives, so that person set a trap, then deceived my brother into it, and finally implicated my dad!"

Another person bringing trouble to their family. No wonder their family was in such a mess. Not to mention the daughter of the mayor of Nightfall City, anyone who can compete with Dennis must be of the same level.

"So Dennis was beaten up by his archenemy?"

She nodded. "He didn't show up, but I know it was his people. He wouldn't show up for such things."

"What is their status in Sevan City?"

"After my dad stepped down, their family should now be considered the second most powerful," Lucy explained.

I couldn't help but take a deep breath. Damn, this was serious!

"Are you scared?" she asked.

"Not at all!" I replied quickly.

"It's still not too late," she said, giving me a serious look.

"What are you talking about?" I frowned. "Do you have to play with me like this? On the one hand, you say you want to go home with me, and on the other hand, you advise me to leave. What do you mean? Are you playing me for a fool?"

Lucy smiled bitterly. "The reason my mom is making things difficult for you is because of this concern. Unless we stay away from Sevan City, we may not be free from trouble."

I pulled her into my arms. "Don't worry. It is something I should consider."

"Getting married secretly is the best, and we don't need to be so ostentatious."

She grabbed my hand. "Our current life hasn't come easy. I don't want to fall back into the abyss. Listen to me, okay?"

She looked helpless. Yes, from being a high and mighty princess to falling into the dust, enduring humiliation and cold eyes, now that life had finally improved, how could she not be afraid?

"But I don't want to sneak around." I held her hand tightly. "As I said, I want to bathe you in the sunlight again, to let you live carefree. And this is Sevan City, your home, my home. Why should we leave?"

Lucy teared up. "But you can't beat them."

"Then let's keep a low profile for now, and when I have the strength, we can be more high-profile."

I patted her back. "Trust me, I won't do anything reckless. You need to run the dance training center well, take care of Auntie Brooke, and don't worry about the rest. If you're really afraid, then I'll send you somewhere else to live."

Lucy shook her head. "If you're not afraid, why should I be!"

She hugged me. "Before our family fell, I only met good people. After our family fell, I haven't seen any good people. They all want to bully me. I thought I would never meet a good person again in my life. Until I met you, you were like a ray of light, dispelling the darkness in my heart. William Maine, it's you who made me believe in the beauty of the world again. I didn't believe in fate before, but now I do. If I had paid more attention to you in college and talked to you more, maybe I wouldn't feel so guilty now."

I could tell she had fallen in love with me. Lucy deserved to be treated sincerely.

"William Maine, luckily, you rescued me early. If you had been a step late, I might not have been able to come out."

I held her. "So I said, everything is arranged by fate."

Lucy didn't say anything. She hugged me and gave me a passionate kiss.
