Chapter 198 The Unexpected Task
"You're too bold, daring to disrespect your superiors!"
"Don't try to scare me. I can tell you directly that I don't disrespect anyone... except you. If you want to set an example, find a better reason. Don't end up implicating yourself."
"What do you mean? Are you threatening me?"
"How could I dare? You're the deputy director. Even if I had the courage, I wouldn't dare to do that."
Seeing her frustrated expression, Savannah Lee couldn't help but chuckle. Realizing her mistake, she quickly covered her mouth. "Now, you have two choices. First, apologize and compensate Mr. Maine for his mental and reputational damages. Second, we go to court. But I must remind you, this won't benefit you in any way!"
Philip Black's face completely changed. "You... You're threatening me, a naked threat!"
Jessica Lawrence was getting impatient. "Isn't your cousin a lawyer? Just make a phone call and ask!"
"Then I'll make a call."
Philip Black left to make a phone call. After a few minutes, he returned with a mournful face. I looked at him with a smirk and asked, "What's wrong? Is your cousin willing to help you in court?"
He walked up to me. "William Maine, please, for the sake of our colleagueship, spare me this time! I warned you last time. If you behaved with humility, this matter will be over. But you chose to provoke me again. Don't blame me now!"
"Please, William Maine, please don't sue me. I'm still young. I don't want to carry this stain for the rest of my life. I admit it's because I was jealous of you that I kept smearing and bullying you. I was wrong. Please forgive me."
He nodded and bowed repeatedly; the panic on his face was not fake.
Nicole Cooper remained silent, but her eyes were filled with anger and resentment.
At that moment, Melody Wilson said, "William Maine, spare him. Since you don't want to escalate things, then you should propose a solution."
Jessica Lawrence added, "Well, it's reasonable for you to sue him, but I hope you consider the bigger picture."
"Since Ms. Lawrence and Ms. Wilson both say so, then forget it. For their sake, I won't sue you."
"Thank you, thank you!"
"Don't celebrate too soon."
I glanced at him sideways. "First, you need to compensate me for the legal fees, then for my mental and reputational damages, and finally, you need to acknowledge your mistake publicly in front of the entire company."
"Uh."
"If you're not willing, I won't force you."
"No, I agree, I'm willing!"
Philip Black's face was as pale as death, a look of defeat on his face.
I stood up and said, "Good, that's settled. Coordinate with my lawyer on the compensation. Once everything is done, I'll drop the lawsuit. But remember, I have limited patience. I'll give you two days at most!"
Philip Black nodded like a puppet. I thought to myself, finally vented a big anger.
Nicole Cooper left angrily. Savannah Lee went back to draft the compensation agreement. Just then, Jessica Lawrence stopped me. "William Maine, don't leave yet. Ms. Wilson, it's nothing, you go out first."
Melody Wilson glanced at me and then left the office.
"Ms. Lawrence, is there something else?"
Jessica Lawrence said lightly, "Feeling better now?"
"More or less."
"I never realized before that you were so audacious and reckless."
"People always change. That's how society is. Good people are always taken advantage of."
"You handled this well. Don't worry, I'll remove Philip Black from his position later."
"Thank you, Ms. Lawrence."
"No need for thanks."
Jessica Lawrence asked, "By the way, did you attend the media conference with Wallace Company yesterday?"
"Yes, that's correct."
"You must have collected a lot of contacts from potential sponsors, right?"
"I did collect some."
She nodded. "Let me ask you, did you happen to meet someone named Troy yesterday?"
What? My heart skipped a beat. 'Did she suspect me now?'
My mind was suddenly in chaos. Feeling guilty, I said, "No, I didn't meet anyone."
She looked a little disappointed. "It's okay if we didn't meet."
I asked. "Ms. Lawrence, is that Troy someone you know?"
"Yes, an acquaintance!"
I stared at her for a while and noticed that she wasn't paying attention to me. I knew she was just curious and didn't suspect that I was the Troy she was referring to!
"I'll pay more attention in the future."
"Oh, by the way, how did it go with Charles Williams that I mentioned last time?"
"We've made contact. There's interest, but there are many competitors; people from several companies also pursuing it. Of course, with the connection to George Jefferson, my chances are the highest."
"Great. I'm looking forward to your good news."
She said, "If there's nothing else, you can leave first."
Leaving the office, my back was soaked in cold sweat. It seemed like she was now looking for 'me' in real life, so I had to be extremely cautious.
Just then, George Jefferson called. "William, are you at the office?"
"Yes, George!"
"Send me the address. I'll come to see you!"
I quickly sent him the address and then told Melody Wilson before hastily leaving Skylight Group.
Back at WY Media Company, everyone was working hard except for me, the boss, who had nothing to do all day.
"Boss!"
"Hello, boss!"
As I walked through, everyone stood up to greet me, and this feeling was still very satisfying.
After waiting in the office for a while, George Jefferson messaged that he had arrived. I hurried to the elevator, and as the doors opened, George Jefferson stepped out. "William, it's been two days since we last met."
"George, what made you come to the office today?"
"I'm usually too busy to have time, only slightly free on weekends."
George Jefferson smiled. "I'm here this time with a task."
"Oh, what task?"
I thought to myself, 'It's not asking for my help again, is it?'
"Don't worry, let's go to your company first."
