Chapter 332: Anneth Brams
"Sure I am." From her question, Eman nodded and also asked. "Am I a bother?"
"No no, it's not like that," the girl hastily waved her delicate hands in front of her, looking somewhat a little flustered. "I saw you searching for something for over half an hour already, so I want to ask if you need any help. Maybe I can help you," she said while placing her hand on her chest, implying she was sincere.
Eman was quite shocked. It was already half an hour? He did not notice it.
He forced a smile. "I see. Uhm, if it's not a problem for you, can I ask for your assistance?"
She nodded. "Sure! So what kind of book are you looking for?"
"Ah, let's see. About spirit or Spirit Master. Is there a book like that?"
"Spirit you say? Wait, let me check."
"Okay."
She suddenly checked the black book she was carrying. Probably, an Index.
After flipping some pages, she said without turning away her eyes from the Index book. "Uhm! I don't think it's in this corner."
"I see. No wonder."
No wonder he couldn't find it. He was on the wrong shelf. The shelf in front of him has the label "Supernatural Magical Creatures".
"Come follow me!" She prodded him to follow her.
Eman did as she said. Tailing after her, they arrived in front of the shelf with the number XXX. The label "Taming and Contract" could be seen on the shelf.
"It should be here."
Eman glanced at the neatly arranged books. His eyes scanned briefly on them before he returned his gaze to the helpful girl.
"Thank you very much, Miss..."
"Anneth Brams." She pointed to the name tag on her left chest. "It's my name," she said.
Eman smiled faintly. "Miss Anneth Brams." He quickly averted his eyes from her chest. Despite looking petite, she has a pair of big assets.
Her surname sounded familiar to him. The Count family has the surname Brams. So, she was probably of that family.
By the way, under her name, there was the word "Assistant Librarian" written.
She looked young, probably only a year or two older than him.
Anneth smiled and looked at the shelf. Eman was surprised that she didn't leave yet. "Uhm, Miss Anneth, are you from the count's family?" Eman had no idea where he got the courage to ask it, but it was already too late to take it back. He just hoped she wouldn't get offended by that question.
"How did you know?!" Anneth suddenly looked at him with eyes showing surprise.
Eman smiled wryly. "Forgive me, I happened to see somewhere before the surname Brams. Maybe in the book I read before. It appeared to be Count Brams," Eman explained calmly. He regretted talking about it.
After staying in this world for a few months already and learning bit by bit about their culture, ethics, and etiquette, Eman came to understand that statuses were a delicate topic to noble families, especially to those with higher statuses.
Once you showed a hint of knowledge about them, they could take it as if you're a spy or someone with motives in their family, then they'd be wary of you.
It wasn't good if Anneth suddenly thought something like that towards him. Hopefully, Anneth wouldn't take his words so seriously.
"Please, forget what I said," Eman said apologetically, then returned his gaze to the well-arranged books on the shelf.
Anneth didn't answer right away. Her expression was complicated.
Eman felt that the situation was getting awkward so he quickly looked for the book he needed.
After a bit of pause, Anneth finally opened her mouth. "Sorry for suddenly going silent. Ah, right. Look there!"
She suddenly pointed to the shelf at the upper part of it. To where she was pointing, Eman saw a book with the title "Spirit Master".
That was definitely what he was looking for.
Regardless, it looked like she chose to evade answering his question. It looked suspicious but Eman didn't care about it. He wasn't interested in other people's business as long as it didn't involve him.
The book was placed slightly higher. Someone like Anneth could not reach it without a ladder, or stepping onto something. Fortunately, by tiptoeing, he could reach it.
Eman then tiptoed and tried to reach the book. But to his surprise, the book moved on its own. It trembled and then flew out from the shelf. It then landed on Anneth's hand.
Eh?
Eman with a dumbfounded expression looked at Anneth in astonishment.
Perhaps noticing his complicated face, "Ah sorry, did I surprise you?" Anneth quickly apologized.
"Yes, a bit." Eman did not lie; that truly surprised him.
Anneth smiled awkwardly and said, "That's my ability."
"Is that telekinesis ability?!" Eman sounded excited.
"Uhm, sorry, but let's lower our voice."
"Sorry, I got a little too excited all of a sudden. Telekinesis ability is just too awesome."
'Like superheroes,' Eman thought.
"Alright. Uhm, it's just a low-level Levitation ability." She looked a little embarrassed.
"I see. But it's a convenient ability for a task like this, right?"
She nodded. "Yes!" She smiled genuinely this time. A line of white teeth peeking under her pink lips. "Here take this," she handed the book to him.
After Eman took it, Anneth finally bid farewell while saying, "If you need some help again, just inform me. I'll be at the counter."
"Alright. Thanks for helping me by the way."
"It's nothing."
After Anneth left, Eman found an empty table and he quickly occupied it.
He opened the book and placed it on the table. And there he read the content of each page one by one.
It took him about an hour. But, even though it took that long, he still didn't finish reading all the contents of the book. Well, he didn't intend to read everything. He just wanted to know about the contract. What good and bad things it could bring to people.
At least, he found what he wanted.
"Spirit Beasts?"
The first thing that Eman noticed was that those spirits are described as Spirit Beasts.
According to it, after the Spirit Beasts and their masters form a contract, a Spiritual Vein will appear in the Spirit Master's soul dimension. Just like what Blue said.
This Spiritual Vein is where your magical energy passes through. Once they pass through it, the magical energies will be channeled as Spiritual Energy. It also stated that after the Spiritual Vein is formed, the Spiritual Master will suffer dizziness, exhaustion, and even lethargy. But this will only happen once.
Eman remembered when the red and orange torrent of energy in his Soul Fountain were formed, he also suffered the same thing.
It looked like his initial guess was correct. What happened to Sky a while ago was just the side effect of the formation of her Spirit Vein.
'Wait. Doesn't this also mean that those torrents of red and orange energies in my Soul Fountain were like Spirit Vein as well? Maybe they are called Soul Vein and Magic Vein.' Eman wasn't sure of it. This was only a hunch.
It was also stated in the book that Spirit Masters had to spend their magical power when they summoned their Spirit Beast to maintain their existence in the mortal world.
He finally understood quite a few things. But Eman had no more time left to continue reading it. He only told Zennie that he would be sleeping for two to three hours and even that, he has exceeded his allotted time. If he had known this would happen, he would have added three more hours.
Eman calmly closed the book. He stood up and put it back on the shelf where he took it. At least he now knows where to find it again if ever he needs to read it again.
He then left the library. Walking in the hallway of the building, an unexpected encounter surprised him.
"You?!"
"Eh?"
Eman gawked.
A beautiful girl with golden hair was standing in front of him. With her were two other girls.
After a glance, Eman quickly stepped aside to let them pass. He waited but…
"….."
Unexpectedly, they didn't move. They stopped as well.
Eman looked confused and looked at them. He didn't really want to talk with them. "Uhm, is there a problem?"
Eman saw Hannah's eyebrows flutter. It seemed like she wanted to say something but couldn't.
Unbeknownst to Eman, Hannah was just shocked by his indifferent attitude towards her. She heard that he lost his memories. But Hannah did not fully believe it. But now, looking at Eman, Hannah was shaken at his indifference, especially towards her.
Although she repeatedly pushed him away and told him that she no longer wanted him, it was only because she was deeply hurt by what happened to them. And Hannah thought that if she did that, she would be able to move on in the end. But she found out that it was not that easy to move on. Especially every time she hears about Eman's closeness with the freshman Sol and even with Hemina. Her heart ached.
It was an unbearable feeling.
Eman noticed Hannah's lips tremble and her fingers listlessly interlocking with her other fingers.
'Does she want to say something?' He thought.
Anyway, he couldn't waste time here. "Sorry for blocking your way. It happened because I'm not paying attention to my path." After saying those words, he started walking away.
'Was it necessary to explain?' Eman wondered. He continued walking.
"Wait!"
Before he could go away, a shout came from behind. Eman stopped on his feet and looked behind.
