My Life with Narration

Chapter 34: 800 Bucks

Although Su Qing has always liked mature women, actually encountering one makes him feel quite uncomfortable.

The older women he's met before are like Li Zijun, who would hit him over the head, and Liu Shuzhu, who wouldn't let him graduate—neither of whom were easy to deal with. One he didn't dare to pursue at all, not even a thought about it, and the other almost got him expelled. So now, although he's still into mature women, he keeps his distance, and as for fooling around, he gives that up.

Older women aren't easy to fool... not easy to please!

That's why when he faced Shen Yi, he always remained a bit cautious, especially since she looked every bit like a financially successful cougar.

Simply put, her enthusiasm was over the top. Who gives someone a car just after meeting them? After all, Su Qing is a downright seven-foot man, destined to hold up the family name of the Su Family; he's not some gigolo from a clubhouse who eats someone else's charity. Really, does she think he has no backbone?

At this moment, Su Qing was driving a Mercedes that had just hit the road a few days ago, with a face full of tension.

...

It's not that he didn't refuse, but Shen Yi simply didn't give him the opportunity to refuse and just forced it onto him.

Jumping back to half an hour ago.

He looked at the car key in front of him, somewhat dumbfounded for a moment, but immediately declined:

"No need, no need. I'll just grab a taxi later. If you have things to do, go ahead and take care of them!"

As the saying goes, you don't casually lend out your car or your wife. Simply put, a car is a very personal item; he understands that. What's more, he's not familiar with the other party. Better safe than sorry; if something goes wrong, it'll be too much trouble.

Besides, he didn't see much difference between driving and taking a taxi—both are just means of transportation. As for using a car to show off, he's not at that level yet. Isn't bike-sharing appealing enough?

"It's fine. The car's just sitting there. A while ago, I crashed one, and this one's newly bought. I've only driven it once. I don't like driving it to work anyway. On second thought, it suits a young man like you." Maybe seeing his concerns, Shen Yi added, "Don't worry too much. Just drive it. The car has full insurance."

"Alright, let's just leave it at that. You drive the car for now. I'll fetch it when I have time."

Saying this, she instructed her assistant, Deng Jie, to prepare the car for work.

Even though he was mentally prepared, when Su Qing saw the brand-new Mercedes downstairs, he was surprised. Why? Because it was simply too slick.

This might be the ultimate dream for ninety-five percent of men. Just knowing the price wasn't cheap scared him into checking the price on his phone. What he saw almost made him drop the phone. Wow, it cost over two hundred thousand; who could afford that?

Then... he quickly got in the car, caressing the interior with an expression of excitement, paying only the price of adding her on WeChat.

The end result was a brand-new car crawling down the street at a snail's pace. How slow? Let's put it this way: in just a few minutes, three e-scooters had overtaken him, and the honking from cars behind was incessant.

Even though it's within the city, his speed was somewhat excessive. He couldn't help it; driving at that moment was as nerve-wracking as when he first learned to drive, his palms sweaty, afraid to accelerate for fear of scratching or denting it. After all, it wasn't his car, and he definitely couldn't afford any damages.

This is the most straightforward example of wealth not matching status. Even including his stock market money, he couldn't scrape together ten thousand yuan, yet here he was cruising around in a car worth over two hundred thousand. Who wouldn't feel pressured?

Meanwhile, Deng Jie drove a business car with Shen Yi toward the company.

"President Shen, I really don't get it. You had me prepare clothes and even give away a car. What's going on here?"

"Are you serious about this? These young guys are unstable. Don't mention marriage; even dating them seems unreliable. Where'd you find him?" Deng Jie asked curiously while driving.

With no outsiders present, the two were quite familiar with each other, so their conversation was more relaxed.

Hearing this, Shen Yi, sitting in the back, didn't even look up, staring at Su Qing's WeChat on her phone and chuckling, "Where did I find him? Last night, I spent 800 to pick him up from the roadside!"

She wasn't just making it up; after all, the money was genuinely spent. Recalling that scene of chasing the car on foot last night, she still found it amusing.

"800?" Deng Jie exclaimed, even the car jerked, which was unusual for someone as seasoned behind the wheel as her.

"What's the big deal? I can't spend my money to enjoy myself?" Shen Yi questioned.

Deng Jie was thoroughly surprised by this revelation; she initially thought they must have known each other before the morning conversation, but she never imagined money was truly involved.

In response, Deng Jie quickly adjusted and replied, "No... it's nothing, just surprised you would..."

"Would what?" Shen Yi asked.

Deng Jie: "Would... like someone so young. Anyway, if you need something in the future, let me know. I can arrange it. There are plenty of universities nearby; that's got to be better than picking one up off the road."

Upon hearing this, Shen Yi couldn't help but chuckle, then replied, "Oh, get out of here. You don't really think I'm that kind of woman, do you? I don't believe you didn't pick up on anything from the conversation I just had with him."

As someone by her side, Deng Jie was naturally skilled in reading between the lines and social interactions. Even if they didn't mention the accident while eating, it at least implied they knew each other.

"Didn't you yourself say you spent 800 bucks? Why blame me for overthinking?" Deng Jie laughed playfully.

Shen Yi didn't tease further, simply stating, "Last week I was in a car accident, and he pulled me out of the car. I watched the surveillance footage. A minute or two's delay, and I might have been burned alive."

With this explanation, Deng Jie suddenly understood everything. As Shen Yi's assistant and secretary, she certainly wouldn't be unaware of such an incident; after all, Shen Yi had spent three days in the hospital, and Deng Jie was out of town handling something. By the time she returned, Shen Yi was already discharged.

If not for the fact that the wound on her head hadn't completely healed, it would have been hard to believe such a severe accident would leave her with just minor injuries.

Upon hearing Shen Yi's explanation, Deng Jie finally understood why President Shen was taking such care of this young man.

"I see now. That's why. Honestly, he really deserves some gratitude," Deng Jie sighed.

Shen Yi didn't respond further; she didn't plan to admit that her true reason was fascination with his voice, which would seem too frivolous.

However, thinking back to their morning conversation over breakfast, she couldn't help but smile to herself. Just hearing that voice was enough to make her feel a pleasurable tingle; the thought of it alone was delightful.

Seeing this, Deng Jie couldn't help but comment that the cliché of a hero saving a damsel might be old, but it never fails to work!

At noon, at the foot of a commercial building near East City Suburban University.

"Qingzi... be honest, have you snagged yourself a rich woman?" Wang Xing sat in the passenger seat, asking solemnly.

Su Qing: "You're talking nonsense."

"Me? Nonsense? I get just 800 bucks, yet look at you, driving a luxury car, and you still claim you're not being kept by a rich woman?"

Su Qing: "What 800 bucks?"

Wang Xing: ...
