MY LIFE IN THE FORGOTTEN WORLD!

Chapter 16: After 10 Years

(Ten Years Later)

The moonlight was bright on this beautiful night.

The glow of the fireflies beautified the place, and the sounds of insects added a serene calm to the night.

Howl!

Roar!

Hiss!

Of course, if you ignore the sounds of the monsters running swiftly towards the center of the forest.

The monsters were running in large numbers towards the center of the forest, but as they got closer, the ground began to fill with blood little by little.

Until the monsters reached the place they were heading to.

The smell of blood that filled the place made it hard to breathe.

The monsters began to tremble and shiver upon reaching the place due to the sight they were witnessing.

Dozens, no, hundreds of monster corpses piled on top of each other, as if forming a small hill.

At the top of the hill sat a man with black hair and black eyes.

This man appeared to be around 18 years old, sitting atop the monster corpses and slowly carving a piece of wood.

When he lifted his head, his wild and empty eyes looked at the trembling monsters that couldn't move due to the fear that gripped their bodies.

"Leave."

That was the only thing he said, and the monsters began to run away quickly, fleeing the place at their fastest speed to save their lives.

The man suddenly stood up and jumped off the monster corpses.

He walked, his body covered in blood—not his own, but the blood of the monsters that filled the place entirely.

He carried a bow on his back, two large daggers at his sides, and wore a blue ring on his right hand.

Kaden finished his daily training and now headed to the city gate to prepare, as today was the day the army recruitment would open.

I reached the gate and was greeted by the guard as usual.

"Hello, Kaden, how are you today?"

"Good, thank you."

After responding with these simple words, he opened the gate, and I entered the city as usual.

I didn't care about what was happening inside the city and headed straight home.

When I opened the gate to the house, I looked at the yard, which had now become a small flower field, with a sign in the middle that read "Jaron."

After a short while, I regained my senses, opened the door, and went inside to take a quick shower.

After showering and changing my clothes, I stretched out on the bed and fell asleep.

(The Next Morning)

"Gather around! Gather around!"

"The army recruitment for batch number 121 is now open. Everyone, please gather here quickly."

I heard a loud voice that woke me up from my sleep, so I prepared my gear and went to the gathering place in the center of the city.

'Is he using mana to make his voice that loud?'

I wondered because of his annoying voice.

After a while, when people had gathered, a man wearing army clothes with four stars on his shoulder stepped forward.

"Now, the conditions for joining the army will be announced."

"First: The applicant must be in excellent health and have no physical disabilities."

"Second: The applicant must be between 16 and 32 years old."

"That's it! Those who want to apply, go to this table, register your name, and wait."

After the man finished speaking, people gradually began to leave the place until only about 100 people remained.

There was a line at the application table, and I waited until it was my turn and stepped forward.

"Your name and age."

The man sitting at the table spoke.

"Kaden Mort, 18 years old."

"Okay, take this card and stand aside until we tell you to move."

I took the wooden card from his hand and looked at it.

It was just an ordinary wooden card with my name and age carved on it, and at the bottom, it read [Army Applicant].

I put the card in my pocket and waited aside until they told us what to do.

I noticed the other applicants; most of them were men, but there was a fair number of women as well.

I began to observe them one by one, and only five people caught my attention.

The first person was a man in his late twenties with a well-built body, slightly shorter than me. He wore black and purple clothes that covered his entire body and a mask that covered the lower half of his face.

The second person was a woman with brown hair, standing with her hands in her coat pockets, leaning against the wall with her right foot, and looking at people just like I was.

Our eyes met as I looked at her, and she waved at me. I returned the greeting and turned to the third person.

He was a man in his thirties with a light beard and a bow on his back.

The fourth person was a boy who looked younger than me, with a sword on his waist that made me feel uneasy.

'What is that sword? It looks dangerous.'

I looked away from him and finally turned to the fifth person.

Standing alone and looking nervous, his white hair made him more handsome with his excellent face. He wore a white armor that covered his entire body, and his golden eyes almost blinded me.

On his waist was an ordinary-looking sword that didn't seem special compared to his armor.

But he was the strongest here, stronger than me, stronger than the people here, and even stronger than the trainers.

All my instincts told me that this person should never be messed with.

"Okay, everyone who received a card, follow us."

We followed the trainers and started walking until we reached the inner city gate.

"Open the gate."

When we arrived, one of the trainers with three stars spoke to the gate guards, and they quickly went to open the gate.

'This is the first time I will see the inner city since I was born in this world, huh! I wonder what it will be like.'

The gate gradually opened, and we began to enter.

But when I entered and looked at the city and the people walking in the streets, my face became very ugly, and anger quickly rose inside me.
