My Journey In One Piece!

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Training Part 1

=-Day 232 / Six Months Later-=

"Hmm hmm~" I hummed a soft tune as I walked back to my home, a twine basket in hand and a snake twice as thick and long as myself draped over my shoulder. "Hmm hmm~" I strained my ears as I kept humming, a routine I'd developed whenever I was out.

It wasn't a long walk before I reached the familiar sight of the waterfall. I threw the snake close to the water next to a crudely made wooden table. Setting the basket down next to it and walked to the waterfall. I jumped and landed past the falling water, into my cave, where a makeshift wooden door stood in my way.

Opening it, I ignored the scraping sound as it dragged against the stone ground and wiped my feet on the mat made from monkeys that had wandered too close to the outskirts of my hunting grounds. Walking off the mat, I made my way to the corner where I kept my tools, particularly my obsidian knives. Grabbing one of the larger knives, as well as a smaller one about the size of my palm, I walked back outside, also picking up a small palm leaf package.

'Time to see if this batch is any better.' I sighed as I stepped out, closing the door behind me, then jumped out of the waterfall and onto solid ground. I started the process of skinning the snake, beginning with its head and using the smaller knife.

As I worked, my mind wandered to the months after my old home was destroyed, forcing me to move. I thought back to my first real encounter with something that could either use Haki or I was just pitifully weak.

'Damn mutt.'

I absentmindedly scratched at the scar that ran vertically across my lip, then resumed skinning. A little under two months ago, I had wandered too far outside my hunting grounds and stumbled across a ruin, a castle by the looks of it. I got distracted, thinking there might be a sword or something made of metal I could take. But in that moment of distraction, I heard a growl. When I had turned a wolf stood behind me, towering at over fifteen feet exuding an oppressive weight that I hadn't felt since encountering the giant monkey.

'I doubt it was Conqueror's Haki though. More likely, it was just primal instinct I was sensing.'

But why I thought it could use Haki, I didn't know. My gut however, told me something else. It had saved me from having my head torn off when I slightly tilted it, dodging its swipe that still sent me flying back. It was only after escaping and returning to the waterfall that my thoughts solidified when I'd asked the System a question.

'I really need to step up my training and not just focus on surviving.' I thought, sighing as I finished skinning the body and began removing the guts.

"System, stats and Visual Haki."

I sighed as I cleaned the now gutless snake, then walked over to my table and placed it on top. Grabbing the bigger knife, I started cutting it up.

'I need to complete that quest. Seeing Haki would probably help against the mutt.'

Once the meat was cut, I set the knife down and picked up the pieces spearing them onto a stick like skewers. I jammed the stick into the ground so the meat hung over my fireplace, then started the fire.

"Though, I can't be sure if that monkey has Haki... Don't want to know if it does right now." I muttered, sighing. I walked over to the basket and pulled out some dough I'd made from ground seeds and grass mixed with water. I'd let it sit in the jungle's moist atmosphere to rise. I worked the dough for a bit then stretched it out into a circle. Pulling out a few berries, I crushed them to act as sauce and spread them on the dough.

I turned away from the table and walked over to the partially cooked snake meat. Pulling the pieces off the skewers, I grabbed a rock sitting near the fireplace and threw it into the fire to heat up. Walking back to the table with the meat in hand, I placed it on the pizza dough and stared at it for a moment.

'Dinner is almost ready.'

I grabbed a flat stone from the basket and placed the uncooked pizza onto it. Then, walking over to the firepit, I grabbed the now hot stone out of the fire, slid the pizza onto it and placed it back in the flames before sitting down.

...

Minutes passed in silence.

....

'I'm lonely.' I thought, the weight of the realization sinking in. It wasn't something I liked to think about often, being alone on an unknown island in a world I'd only seen through a screen, as someone practically glued to one. Yet here I was, surviving and for the most part thriving. Still, despite my best efforts to avoid it, loneliness crept in growing stronger, especially after that giant monkey spoke human words.

It made me realize that I missed hearing words, not just the growls or cries of animals.

'I really need to work on a boat.' I thought, my mood darkening further. A boat in my old world would have been fine, there wouldn't be many things big enough to swallow it whole. But here, where beasts known as Sea Kings are larger than ships, possibly even larger than islands there was no way I'd be able to build a boat strong enough to withstand them. And that wasn't even counting the fact that I was in the Grand Line where the weather was shit.

'Fuck.'

I sighed, shaking off the depressing thoughts and saw that my pizza was done. Ignoring the sizzling sound as my skin burned from the heat, I grabbed the stone and moved it between my legs to warm up, tearing off parts of the pizza before eating them.

'Not as bad as spiders.'

=-Day 241-=

Haki.

Something I couldn't fucking use due to the System, but its training was something I remembered. 'Rayleigh smacked Luffy around for Observation Haki.' Where were my thoughts going? I was going to do something similar because my body had enhanced senses. 'Pretty sure Toji and Maki had enhanced senses anyway.'

In any case my theory was that I could train my instincts and senses to mimic the way Observation Haki was used. 'Though whether I'm wasting my time by being hit is another story.'

How was I doing it? I'd carved sticks to hold a rock at one end, tied securely and hung upside down. The sticks where all hung in a across a vine that connected one tree to another. My goals for this exercise were simple in theory: Create a sword slash with a crudely made wooden sword, close my eyes and start dodging the now swinging sticks with rocks at the end of them.

I cracked my neck with one hand while eyeing the hanging sticks, gripping my wooden sword with the other.

I widened my stance a little further apart, raising the sword above my opposite shoulder, gripping it tighter.

With a grunt of effort, I swung.

...

...

Nothing happened.

I sighed, standing up straight again and looked at the wooden sword. 'This is going to take a while.'

Then I heard a familiar sound.

*Ding!*

[Quest: Use the move: Flying Slash Attack ten times! Reward: Pet Card]

I blinked at both the fact I had a Quest that gave me more information than I'd expected and the visible reward. 'Fucking finally!' A small grin tugged at my lips as I turned back to the sticks. 'I'll get this down before a month and get that pet card.' I didn't know what it was, but if my thoughts were correct, I really wanted it.

Gripping the sword once more, I held it over my shoulder with my stance a little wider and swung.
