My Hero Academia: Tropic Thunder

Chapter 44: Meeting with the Devil

-Kaminari's POV-

As we travelled far away from the district center, slowly we arrived at the calmer, less busy surroundings, Yaoyorozu is dead centered on the tracker, watching for any sign of movement. We are moving even more carefuly, there's no telling what we are going to encounter.

"This is place, as indicated by the tracker." Yaoyorozu proclaims as she leans against the wall, cornering the building as she gets sight of the supposedly villains' hideout.

A dark building, looks abandoned on the exterior, I try to find anything, any glimpse, any sign of suspiscious behavior. It is decided we will await and scout, see if there's any movement.

...

About ten minutes pass, nothing came of it. My electric sense can't get a single signature from this distance. Since it's clear we won't get nowhere from here, Midoriya decides to move through the back, it's risky, but the only option available.

The alley is crammed, with very little space for maneuvering if things get ugly, I hate this. We go a little further until Midoriya spots a window, it's high up but good for taking a look inside.

As Yaomomo prepares to create a NVG, Kirishima interrupts her as he brought one already. Those things are expensive, though this says a lot about Kirishima.

As both he and Midoriya jump on Ilda's shoulders and mine, they get to take a look on what's inside. Still no signatures from my end, maybe Bakugou ain't here after all.

Kirishima's sudden jolt backwards startles both me and Ilda. He saw something.

"What's wrong? What is it, Kirishima?!" Todoroki asks with urgency, if it's an enemy, if we were spotted, we need to act.

Kirishima is coated in fear, he's trembling so much Ilda is having trouble balancing his weight. He hands over the googles to Midoriya. "...To the left at the end, Midoriya... Look!"

Soon Midoriya also shares his fear as he announces to the rest of us what they're seeing: A coterie of Nomus, submerged in barrels of viscous liquid.

Various Nomus... And I can't feel the signature of any of them... If the Chainsaw Nomu is there, this means we are in grave danger. We need to get out of here.

The tension hung thick in the air as we pressed close to the cracked window, eyes wide as the unsettling sight of the Nomu vats greeted us. The viscous fluid inside seemed to swirl with a malevolent, dark energy, each grotesque figure suspended like a nightmare waiting to be unleashed. My heart hammered, every beat drumming a warning to retreat, to turn and bolt, but I couldn't tear my eyes away.

A single shuddered breath passed between us before the world erupted.

BOOOM!!!!

A sound so deafening it was as if the sky itself had split. Before I could process the impact, the glass shattered outward in a storm of glinting shards, a powerful gust sweeping over us with the force of a hurricane. The ground buckled beneath my feet, and the entire building seemed to groan in pain.

"Hold on!" I barely managed to shout before the wave of pressure crashed over us, slamming me backward into Todoroki. His ice instinctively flared out in thin, jagged spikes, trying to anchor us as we tumbled like ragdolls.

Dust choked the air, coating my tongue with a bitter, metallic taste. My ears rang, a sharp, piercing whine that refused to fade as the roar of destruction continued outside. I felt Kirishima's hand grasp at my arm, his voice lost in the chaos. My vision wavered, a blend of darkness and disorienting flashes of light from the wreckage.

It took what felt like an eternity for the violent tremor to slow. The ringing in my ears dulled, replaced by distant shouts and the wailing of voices. I gasped for breath, struggling to shake the dizziness that clung stubbornly.

Coughing, I opened my eyes to see Yaomomo half-slumped against Midoriya, her hair matted with dust, eyes wide with alarm. Beyond them, through the gaping hole that had been blown open, Pro Hero Mt. Lady stood tall and fierce, her gigantic silhouette framed by the haze. The building's facade had been reduced to twisted metal and crumbling stone, and for a second, it looked like the city itself was splintering.

The chaos below unraveled with the precision of a well-coordinated assault. From our perch, I could make out Best Jeanist's meticulous control over fine cables as they snapped and coiled like metallic serpents, binding a struggling Nomu in a vice grip.

Mt. Lady towered above the building's debris, her gigantic form a mix of elegance and sheer power, kicking another Nomu with an almost careless ease that sent it sprawling.

I caught sight of Tiger, muscles rippling, flipping a smaller, snarling creature into the waiting arms of Gang Orca, who subdued it with a crushing grasp. Even the police moved efficiently, their weapons aimed with precision.

Yaomomo's voice trembled slightly, a rare crack in her confident veneer. "Kaminari, look—Mt. Lady has the chainsaw Nomu under control." She gestured, her eyes wide with both relief and disbelief. I blinked, my muscles loosening slightly as my gaze followed hers.

It was the same creature. The same monstrous thing that had pinned me down, empty eyes wild with mechanical rage, drills gnashing like it hungered for my blood. My fingers twitched unconsciously at the phantom pain lingering from that nightmarish struggle. I'd thrown everything I had at it—my body, my quirk, even my last shreds of sanity. And here it was, held effortlessly in check by a hero larger than life.

A mix of relief and frustration coiled in my gut, twisting like a viper. Was that the measure of me? Barely enough to survive, while others dismantled threats with a mere show of force?

I swallowed hard, shaking off the memories clawing at the edges of my mind.

"Good." I muttered, more to myself than anyone else. "At least that's taken care of."

The group stirred as the sounds of battle shifted, the danger easing into a controlled hum. We were just about to retreat, to slip back into the anonymity of the crowded streets, when I felt it—a sudden, suffocating weight. The air crackled, dense and heavy like the moments before a thunderstorm. My pulse slammed into my ears, erratic, frantic. My legs locked, an instinctive response to something far beyond fight or flight.

"Did you feel that?" I didn't realize I'd whispered until I saw Todoroki's eyes, wide and uncertain, shift towards me.

Time crawled, each second stretching unbearably as a figure emerged from the smoke and shadows of the wreckage. A man, if he could be called that. His presence was a void, a gaping maw that devoured every ounce of light and courage around it. He moved with a measured, almost leisurely gait, like this was all just a walk in the park.

A shudder ripped down my spine, cold sweat beading along my hairline. It was more than just fear—it was primal. The kind of terror that seizes prey when they lock eyes with a predator knowing there's no escape. The noise around me faded to static; even my breath felt trapped in my chest.

My hands trembled, and I clenched them into fists, trying to anchor myself, trying to think. But thoughts scattered, slipping away like water through my fingers. The weight of his gaze swept over us, pinning me down as if those cruel, hidden eyes could see right through the walls, right into the marrow of my bones.

Recognition hits me like a lightning strike. I knew that presence, the way it coiled through the air and wormed into your very being, leaving you paralyzed with dread. My father's words whispered in the recesses of my mind, warnings mixed with the echoes of a battle that cost him his career.

It is him. The reason my family bore scars, seen and unseen. The figure who had nearly stolen my brother's future and robbed my father of his. He is here, standing before us, exuding an aura so absolute it felt like the universe itself had stopped to take notice.

My hands trembled uncontrollably, not from fear alone but from rage that simmered just beneath it. He hadn't just haunted my past—he had forged it in terror and sacrifice. And now, he was here, as real and lethal as the first time.

The silence broke, swallowed by the weight of that name.

"All for One."
