My 'Healing' Game

Chapter 982: Playing Ghost

The Big Ghosts in the grave appeared simultaneously, and they seemed to sense something.

Paper Money fluttered in the air as the Old Village Chief gently pressed the third son's shoulder, waiting for him to calm down, before pushing the cart filled with Sacrificial Offering forward alone.

He placed the offerings from the cart in front of various Shrines like a servant, bowing his head, appearing humble and pitiful.

"Fu Sheng, you should know these are not what we want," a voice with a somewhat neutral tone came from the Butterfly Shrine, devoid of sorrow or joy, both terrifying and captivating: "We have given you too many chances, but you always procrastinate. Now the night can no longer be held back, and the newborn Ghost also wants to come out."

"Give me a little more time, I will persuade those in the city, let them volunteer..."

"You can't do it!" The Old Village Chief was abruptly interrupted by another voice, and a human face emerged from the mass of flesh, staring coldly at the Old Village Chief: "This should end now. We will give you one last opportunity — do you choose to become a Ghost or continue being human?"

The Old Village Chief, his hair white as snow, seemed to have long anticipated this day, and the expression on his face was extraordinarily painful.

Becoming a Ghost meant he could no longer freely leave the Big Grave, losing his connection with the surface, and also meant he would become part of the Big Grave.

But if he chose to continue being human, he not only couldn't leave tonight, but also couldn't protect those he wished to safeguard.

"Fu Sheng, think about your past carefully. How did those people treat you before? Recall your life — your horrible childhood, being experimented on as a patient during your school days, and the adult environment filled with deceit and betrayal; it was those people on the surface who ruined you into this state! They caused your despair and suffering! They imposed all unbearable burdens on you!" The colorful Butterfly wings gently flapped, and the voice spoke all of it, truthfully: "There are five Managers in Tomb Village. I agree to you being the last chief because you once suffered an amount of despair that even startled me."

"I..." The wrinkles on the Chief's face deepened, and he struggled internally.

Some of the Big Ghosts grew impatient, the Beast roared, and a Beast of negative emotions jumped down from a Shrine, making the entire corridor tremble.

"How about I let your children persuade you?" The black God Statue with a thousand arms opened its eyes, looking at the Old Village Chief's second son — the Carpenter.

"Dad, my body has severely transformed, so I probably can't continue being human." The Carpenter unwrapped the cloth around his arms, tearing off his shirt, revealing black veins pulsating within his skin below the chest, and several unhealed large wounds on his back, as if arms had grown from there but were forcibly removed by him.

"No, we should remain neutral! Not favor humans, nor Ghosts!" The eldest son grabbed the Chief's arm as he spoke these words, causing the Big Ghosts in the grave to exude killing intent.

Whether human or Ghost, they disliked the neutral Tomb Village.

"Your second son can no longer be human, and if you still can't make up your mind, we can ensure that your eldest and third sons also can't be human." The voice in the Butterfly Shrine turned sinister and vicious, a terrifying pressure enveloped the Old Village Chief and his children.

Dark Energy from the Big Grave permeated their bodies, and aside from the Old Village Chief, the others began to undergo varying degrees of transformation.

The transformation process was extremely painful, and though everyone refrained from making a sound, they could hear the sounds of bones and flesh tearing and re-forming.

"Don't think you can escape, if you don't make a choice, this will become the grave where you are buried." The Big Ghosts within the Shrines never gave the Old Village Chief a chance, forcing him to decide.

Time passed, Dark Energy accumulated, and when the youngest third son fell to the ground with black veins appearing on his face, the silent Chief finally spoke.

"I understand what you want now." The Old Village Chief stood upright, lifting his head to look at the Shrines before him: "I am willing to become a Ghost."

"You should have done this long ago; those who pushed you to this state are not us, but the living people on the surface who, having everything, are still unsatisfied!" The blurred human face within the flesh smiled: "The Big Grave is piled high with despair from the surface. Cause and effect cycle, those people are due for retribution, and death will be their best form of repentance."

"Once you become a Ghost, there's no turning back." The voice from the Butterfly Shrine spoke again; before the Chief agreed, it had constantly pressured him, but now it felt he had agreed too quickly and seemed suspicious.

The Butterfly Shrine was always doubtful, yet because the other Big Ghosts raised no objections, it did not overly hinder, only the brilliant Butterfly wings dimmed slightly.

The Old Village Chief pushed the cart with offerings, leading his three sons through the midst of the Shrines, heading deep into the Big Grave under the gaze of Evil Ghosts.

The Evil Ghosts atop the Shrines continued following them; they descended for a long time, and the group heard the sound of dripping water.

Peering toward the source of this sound, they discovered a massive corpse in the deep darkness.

All negative emotions and despair rested upon the corpse; it appeared human yet was not, seemingly emerging due to humans but held immense hatred towards them.

"This is the first Ghost buried within the grave."

The Big Ghosts on the Shrines appeared much smaller compared to this corpse, and their appearances seemed all linked to this first Ghost.

"This year's cemetery ritual is indeed intriguing." The face within the flesh stared unwaveringly at the Old Village Chief: "Begin."

With several Big Ghosts surrounding them, the Old Village Chief was left with no options; from his bosom, he retrieved a knife and, along with his children, climbed onto the corpse.

Their tiny forms slowly moved toward the heart of the corpse; the Old Village Chief clenched the knife, enduring immense pressure and agony as he truly embarked on this path.

"I am your adopted child, my life was given by you, so returning it isn't a big deal. I've already had twenty years on borrowed time, and these twenty years have been happy ones." The youngest third son with little hesitation wished to act first, but the Carpenter seized the knife from the Chief's hand instead.

"My body has already profoundly transformed, so I should go first then." The Carpenter decisively plunged that special knife into his heart.

Black vines crawled up the Carpenter's body; his beating heart fell from his chest, merging with the First Ghost's heart.

At that instant, the Carpenter's body started fully transforming; it seemed a special bond emerged between him and the massive corpse.

Dark energy and all kinds of negative emotions actively surged toward the Carpenter's body, his skin was ripped apart, his face completely disfigured, and the entire person transformed into a Monster!

Breaking the black blood vessels growing out from the corpse, the Carpenter's rationality gradually dissipated, his Soul and Will exuded a unique scent, his mutated arm gently swayed, as though he could control a certain negative emotion within the Big Grave.

"It's my turn." The middle-aged man picked up the knife that had fallen on the ground, gazing at the pitch-black Abyss like a poet.

The knife's tip pierced the skin, plunging into the heart, the heart-wrenching pain was utterly unbearable for a normal person.

Blood splashed onto his clothes, his entire body's paint finally turned into the color of blood.

The vibrant heart, and the exceptionally pure blood, all fell into the mire and darkness, merging with the corpse's heart.

The middle-aged man wore a bitter smile on his face, he seemed insane, watching his rapidly deforming body as if observing a painting washed by floods.

The youngest third son also reached out for the knife, but before he touched it, the Old Village Chief grabbed it: "Don't forget what you should do."

"I remember..."

"Actually, I also wish you could have a normal life, but... I'm very sorry." The Old Village Chief held the knife, stood up, facing those Big Ghosts with Shrines: "Since you've decided to bear everyone's despair, then you must carry it to the end."

The knife's blade pierced the heart, blood gushed out, the Old Village Chief seemed to have unlocked a Sealing, the previously suppressed mutation fully erupted!

Various terrifying aberrations appeared around, the Old Village Chief's heart did not merge with the corpse, instead, he absorbed some kind of Power from that massive corpse.

"I hate the Mortal World, it holds all those who have harmed me, but if I become like you Evil Ghosts, then what is the difference between me and the culprits who once harmed me?"

A despair capable of opposing the entire Abyss overflowed from the Old Village Chief's Brain Area, his body became completely deformed, the mutation even surpassed that of all the Big Ghosts present!

The most painful despair had been fermenting in the Village Chief's Brain Sea, mixed with the suffering of several box owners, ultimately forming a terrifying Power.

"Fu Sheng! What are you trying to do!"

The Thousand-Handed God Statue was closest to the Village Chief, it was the first to suffer the Village Chief's attack, its hands stained by the Mortal World's seven emotions and six desires were severed, its Shrine also showed cracks.

"What I want to do is simple, kill you Ghosts in this Grave, destroy this Grave that accumulates despair!"

The Village Chief made his final choice, revealing the box hidden deep in his Brain Sea, a complex Divine Pattern appeared on his severely deformed body, he was the most desperate person in the real and illusory world, also the Ghost capable of converting all despair into Power.

"Follow the plan!" The middle-aged man who had become a Ghost pushed away the young man carrying a baby and a black-packaged bundle, wanting to send him out, but as they climbed upward, the Butterfly's wings gently shimmered, Dream Dust turned into a ghostly figure blocking their path.

"Leave with the baby! Don't look back!" The middle-aged man's mutation intensified, he couldn't maintain rationality, after sending the youngest son on his final journey, he engaged in a fierce battle with the Butterfly.

The middle-aged man held off the Butterfly, the Old Village Chief single-handedly fought the remaining Ghosts in the Big Grave, the Carpenter hesitated.

A few seconds later, the Carpenter rushed toward the youngest son, seemingly in pursuit, but actually in escort.

The Old Village Chief's three children, each with their own mission, should one strand go wrong, the Old Village Chief's plan would fail.

"Brother!"

The youngest third son had never experienced something so terrifying, he had always been sheltered by his father and brother, now he must journey alone, charging out from the Big Grave filled with Ghosts and Monsters.

"Don't stop, don't stop!"

Dodging Dark Souls and Fierce Ghosts, bearing the Curse and severe pain, the youngest son sprinted frantically toward the Big Grave's Exit, under the Carpenter's escort.

After paying a heavy price, when they finally could see the Exit, a loud bang echoed from within the Deep Pit, the "medicine" provided by the living outside the city detonated, blocking most passages.

"Don't be afraid, keep climbing, you must bring out father's will." The Carpenter's eyes were bloodshot, his mutated body supported the passage ahead, allowing the Old Village Chief's youngest son to complete the final stretch.

The Carpenter watched his younger brother leave, a stiff smile appeared on his face, then he turned, dragging his mutated body, crawling deeper into the Big Grave.

According to the Old Village Chief's plan, he had to personally kill his own father, the person he admired the most throughout his life.

Rubble and darkness engulfed the Big Grave, also burying the Shrine guarding the grave's entrance.

The youngest son, covered in wounds, struggled to climb out of the Big Grave, but when he looked up, the despair in his eyes became even more intense.

The people on the ground did not honor their agreement, they had no intention of taking care of Tomb Village's villagers, embarking directly on a frenzied, bloody massacre!

The garbage thrown into the Deep Pit by outsiders was tampered with, hiding deep malice, after the explosion echoed inside the Big Grave, the garbage mountain on the ground was also blasted apart, the Deep Pit's walls collapsing!

"They want to bury Tomb Village alive, kill all the villagers..."
