My Girlfriend is the Nether King

Chapter 33: 033 The Revenge of the Seven Fairies

After setting fire to the Fairy Temple, Chen Hao immediately ran out and fled down the mountain.

At that moment, the night between the mountains was dim, gusting winds assaulted him, and the leaves rustled slightly as they were blown by the wind. Running on the nearly invisible stone steps under his feet, Chen Hao had several close calls of tripping over them. Looking ahead, the forest was filled with dense tree shadows, and only far away at the foot of the mountain could he see the occasional glimmer of lights. The whole mountain forest echoed with the sound of his footsteps and heavy breathing, and occasionally, there would be a sudden mournful and melodious cry of birds.

Every time he heard the sudden bird cries, Chen Hao couldn't help but jump in fright.

After running on the steps for ten minutes, the foot of the mountain was already in sight. Seeing a taxi speeding past the road in front of the mountain gate, Chen Hao immediately shouted at the taxi, but unfortunately, the taxi did not stop, moving farther and farther away, leaving Chen Hao to watch helplessly as the taxi's tail lights disappeared into the night.

When he turned back to look at the mountain, a thick plume of smoke rose into the sky. He slowed his pace, and a tired smile gradually appeared on his face. For him, nothing felt more relieving than burning down the temples of these ghosts and spirits.

Just as he was feeling pleased and joyful, a deep and powerful woman's voice accompanied by a burst of wind reached Chen Hao's ears, "Where do you think you're running to!"

Chen Hao turned back again, only to see seven fairy-like figures riding through the clouds from the sky above, each wearing long dresses of different colors—white, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple—with flowing ribbons, exuding an ethereal grace. Among the Seven Fairies, the one at the forefront was the Green Snail Fairy, whom Chen Hao had just exposed.

Chen Hao frowned, thinking that this was trouble. However, he wasn't too worried; with his immortal body, these Seven Fairies couldn't do much to him. The only thing he regretted was not asking Ye Yuqiao to take away his Yang Energy and make him lose consciousness before they parted ways. If he was going to be strangled or bitten now, he would have to silently endure the pain.

"Fairy sisters, what a coincidence, we meet again!" Chen Hao said with a forced composure, smiling at the Green Snail Fairy.

The Green Snail Fairy snorted angrily, her face dark as she scolded, "Audacious rogue, you dare to burn the temple of us Seven Fairies!"

"Pah!" Chen Hao's face suddenly changed, "You bunch of fierce ghosts still have the nerve to call yourselves the Seven Fairies in front of me!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth when a soft and bright purple light shot out from Chen Hao's left eye, illuminating the Seven Fairies floating on the clouds above him. Suddenly, white smoke billowed above, and when it cleared, what was revealed were seven red-clothed fierce ghosts, each standing on dark purple malice, each face more terrifying than the last.

After being exposed to their true forms, the seven fierce ghosts looked at each other and descended to the ground. Seeing the line of ghastly-looking fierce ghosts standing not far away, Chen Hao was immediately seized with trembling. He felt a tinge of regret in his heart; knowing full well they were a group of ghosts, why did he have to use the Nether Light to reveal their true faces! Longing for fairies but having to face hideous ghosts, it was truly self-inflicted distress!

"If it hadn't been for the Onmyoji Association pleading on your behalf last time, you would have been taken away by me long ago! But today, you've actually burned down our main temple. Now, no one's pleadings will save you, you must die!" The Green Snail Fairy said harshly. After speaking, she floated in a blink of an eye in front of Chen Hao, reaching out and grabbing his throat.

Chen Hao was nearly choked to death by her, his eyes rolling back in his head. Silently, he activated his Nether Eye Power and transferred it to his right hand, then, with all his strength, he punched the face of the Seven Fairies, knocking her head clean off her shoulders to fall to the ground. Her head then began to roll down the stone steps.

"Is that it? Dead just like that?" Chen Hao found it hard to believe, "So weak!"

Suddenly, the Seven Fairies' hands gripped Chen Hao's neck even tighter.

As he was about to suffocate, Chen Hao instinctively lifted his left foot and kicked the headless body of the Seven Fairies back several steps.

After the headless body of the Seven Fairies backed away a few steps, a red cloth shot out from her sleeve like a ferocious long snake, attacking Chen Hao and wrapping around his arms. Then, the red cloth entwined around Chen Hao's body, enveloping him completely.

Meanwhile, the ghostly head of the Seven Fairies hopped and crawled back up the stairs to her neck. She twisted her neck, turned around to the other six red-dressed female ghosts behind her, and laughed, "Sisters, let's throw this kid into the river!"

After being wrapped up, Chen Hao couldn't move at all and could only shout desperately, hoping someone passing by would help him. But on such a dark and windy night, in the bleak mountains, how could anyone pass by?

After shouting for a while, Chen Hao gave up.

Not long after, he suddenly felt weightless, followed by a "splash" as icy water instantly soaked his body and his consciousness blurred with the sudden onset of cold. It wasn't until water painfully filled his nose that he started to regain his senses in the midst of the pain. He wanted to struggle, but his tightly bound body was powerless. He could only let the cold water inundate his frantic breaths, until he suffocated and drowned.

After an unknown amount of time, when Chen Hao opened his eyes again, he found himself at the bottom of the water. The red cloth that had been tightly wrapping his body was now torn, except...

"Ah!" Chen Hao screamed in fright, his eyes wide open! Beside him, there were a dozen or so white-dressed water ghosts circling.

The water ghosts were all pale with terror, their lips turning blue and their eyes emitting a chilling light. Their long hair, stirred by the water, brushed Chen Hao's face as gently as seaweed.

The water ghosts were pulling at Chen Hao's body as if fighting over food, tearing the red cloth that had been wrapped around him. Some ravenous ghosts couldn't wait and directly bit into Chen Hao's body.

Since he was deep underwater, Chen Hao's screams were muffled; bubbles large and small rose in the water as he gasped for air. He struggled to break free, but the water ghosts' yanking made it even worse. Amid their pulling and tearing, Chen Hao gradually lost consciousness once more.

When he opened his eyes again, it was already getting light. Listening to the roosters crowing in the mountain farms, he slowly rose to his feet and found that he had been washed ashore by the river. Standing by the riverbank, he opened his Yin Yang Eyes and saw, in the river, pair after pair of eyes emitting a cold light staring at him, as if waiting for the long-coveted prey to take the bait.

"I'm outta here!" Chen Hao waved goodbye to the water ghosts. After several close encounters with yin souls and ghosts and even coming back from the dead, he no longer felt fear.

The river was right at the foot of Red Leaf Mountain. Walking along the riverbank, Chen Hao gradually approached the mountain gate. By now, the sun's red glow was already active in the misty east, and on his way, Chen Hao saw quite a few elderly people up early for their morning exercises, though he wasn't sure whether these seniors were human or ghost.

After waiting for more than twenty minutes at the mountain gate, Chen Hao finally hailed a taxi. By the time he got back to Ye Yuqiao's house, it was already six in the morning. Moving in the dark, he silently entered Ye Yuqiao's room, eager to snuggle up to her in the warm bed and tell her about the harrowing experience from the night before.

However, Ye Yuqiao was not in the room.

"Where could Yuqiao have gone? Could she have gone looking for me?" Chen Hao muttered to himself. His phone was practically destroyed after soaking in the river all night.

He hurried upstairs to his own home right after. No surprises there—Ye Yuqiao wasn't at his place either. He tried contacting her using the landline at his house, but even though her phone rang, no one picked up. After hanging up, he lay down on the sofa, and after thinking for a while, he activated his Left Yin Yang Eye; he wanted to ask the ghost children in the house if they had seen Ye Yuqiao.

He approached the spiritual tablets of the dozen or so children and called out softly, "Darling, Big Bear, A-Fu, Great Saint!"

After a long while, there was no response from the spirit tablets!

He continued calling out, only this time much louder.

Yet, there was still no movement from the spirit tablets. Usually, when the ghost children came out to play, the tablets would wobble a few times.

Chen Hao found this strange! He reached out and gently shook the spiritual tablets while calling the names of the ghost children. Normally, shaking the tablets would set off quaking in the world of the spirit tablets like an earthquake.

Even so, not a single ghost child appeared.

Now, Chen Hao grew anxious. Ye Yuqiao was missing without a trace, and it seemed like the dozen ghost children were nowhere to be found. His heart raced with a bad premonition.

"Woof woof woof!" It was then that the paper dog, transformed from a yellow talisman by Ye Yuqiao, suddenly dashed through the door, barking urgently at Chen Hao.

Chen Hao squinted at the dog and asked, "Did Yuqiao send you to find me?"

The paper dog shook its head, then bit Chen Hao's pant leg, let go, and ran to the door. It looked back and urgently barked at Chen Hao several times.

"You want me to follow you, don't you?" Chen Hao realized.

The paper dog nodded repeatedly and darted out the front door of Chen Hao's house.

Chen Hao immediately followed.

Twenty minutes later, the paper dog led Chen Hao to Coffin Street, right in front of the Yin Yang Master Association.

Seeing the paper dog stop at the entrance of the association, Chen Hao was shocked, "Are you saying that Yuqiao is here?"

The paper dog barked twice and vigorously nodded its head. At that moment, the first morning light of Coffin Street shone down on it. In an instant, it turned into a singed talisman ash.

Chen Hao went forward, pinching a bit of the ash, and silently thanked the paper dog in his heart. After a brief pause, he slowly got up, moved to the front door of the Yin Yang Master Association, and knocked on the door with all his might.

Shortly after, the door opened. Ren Deshan was the one to welcome him.

Upon seeing Chen Hao, Ren Deshan froze instantly!

"What, didn't expect me to still be alive?" Chen Hao asked with a grim smile. In his view, the incident of the Seven Fairies tossing him into the river last night must have been reported to the members of the Yin Yang Master Association, hence Ren Deshan's surprise at his appearance.

Ren Deshan's gaunt face trembled slightly, then he asked with an air of surprise, "How did you get here?"

"You should be telling me, why are you here?" Chen Hao retorted angrily. As he spoke, the power of the Nether Eye already gathered in his right hand above his left eye, and he immediately swung his fist at Ren Deshan's abdomen..
