Chapter 520: S3 Canadian Grand Prix. 6

Five races into the season, and the reigning world champion, Antonio Luigi, remained winless. This outcome had started to feel more like a scar. For a driver of his calibre, this was uncharted territory, and the pressure was suffocating him.

Luca and Ailbeart, his core rivals, had seized their spotlights so far, with three and two P1 finishes respectively over these five rounds. They had begun to carve an impressive campaign, while Luigi was yet to see and climb the top step of the podium.

Three podiums for the great Italian, and two pole positions earned so far. But no P1 for the Black Dread when the chequered flag dropped. A lot of expectations were draped on Luigi, and he'd be damned to go through another Grand Prix without being the victor.

P5— Antonio Luigi

"....Well, five races in, and would you believe it—Antonio Luigi, the reigning world champion, still hasn't won a single Grand Prix this season! Not one! It's been Luca Rennick and Ailbeart Moireach splitting the glory so far; three wins for Luca, two for Moireach, and the champion? He's been on the podium, but never on the top step...!"

"...You have to wonder what's going on behind closed doors at Squadra Corse. The pressure must be immense from the fans, the sponsors, the whole of Italy watching and waiting. This is indeed a worrying trend for the champion...!"

"…you've got to say, this one really doesn't fall squarely on Antonio Luigi's shoulders. He was leading the Canadian Grand Prix—comfortably, I might add—when Race Control came down like a hammer..."

"...Now, whether or not he knew about the tweak is anyone's guess. Regardless, Antonio Luigi lost the lead today, finishes behind Dreyer, and Squadra Corse would be sulking all the way home...!"

[2ND POSITION]

Despite not winning the Canadian Grand Prix, Luca exited his Ferrari with a satisfied grin on his face. The fact that he finished P2 wasn't what made him pleased. What made him happy was how he finished P2.

His late charge through the final laps was masterful, considering how he almost got a tire blown. Looking at the left front tire, Luca knew he was just a lap away from ruin. It seemed Wear Control did help to its capability at (5), because he got a single point while at it.

Jimmy Damgaard didn't get the duel with Luca he so itched for. While in the pitbox, Luca had already filled up his position and was eagerly gunning for Ailbeart. But Ailbeart was quick enough, recovered fast enough to get the track into sync with a supercar. From there on, it was a brief tug of war till the finish line.

There was a shared sense of satisfaction among Luca, Jimmy, and Ailbeart. All three of them could be seen with delighted expressions—not just with their own finishes, but almost as if Luigi's P5 brought them collective joy. The longer the reigning champion remained winless, the more space they had to carve their names into the season's spotlight.

In the electric buzz of Ladislas Duval, with camera flashes popping and engines still ticking with heat, Luca spotted his teammate Victor weaving through the chaos. They locked eyes and eventually, both Trampos drivers closed the distance and hugged tightly.

"That was a fucking good race!"

Victor had quietly crossed the line in P9, pocketing two valuable points for Trampos and marking another step forward in his recent progression. If there was a Trampos driver that needed to be very happy, it was him. Just a race ago, he had managed a single point—only P10—but the steady climb showed promise.

"It was genius. We made enough points today."

Dragging Victor by the neck, Luca led him to Trampos' garage, passing by Haddock Racing's, which was in wild celebration. Victor bumped into Denko Rutherford, who didn't appear to be in a good mood after the team's Grand Prix win. But Victor quickly apologized as he waddled away under Luca's arm toward Trampos' garage.

Denko Rutherford had finished in P18, which was essentially last, since the final positions were shaped by the earlier retirement of Di Renzo and Derstappen's crash. His race had started badly after a qualifying incident buried him at the very back, and from there, it was like trying to swim upward in a tank full of wild urchins.

The lower pack was hostile, chaotic, and relentless—especially James Lockwood, who shadowed and sparred with Denko like a personal grudge. Based on grit, the tail was just as competitive as the front. Despite Denko's efforts, nothing clicked for him, and it was a long 70-lap dance of frustration.

As the team celebrated Ailbeart's 25-point triumph and a Grand Prix win, Denko felt only the sting of being forgotten, his sour mood thickening under the weight of another wasted Sunday.

"....AND SO THE CURTAIN FALLS IN THE CANADIAN GRAND PRIX! AILBEART MOIREACH OF HADDOCK RACING LIFTS THE RACE'S TROPHY, SECOND FOR HIM...!"

"...A RACE PERFECTLY BLENDED WITH CRASHES, CUNNINGNESS AND CONSEQUENCES! SQUADRA CORSE CHASES PHANTOMS OVER THE CLIFF AND THAT DROWNS BOTH THEIRS AND ANTONIO LUIGI'S CHAMPIONSHIP CAMPAIGNS...!"

"...TRAMPOS IS LESS THAN FIVE POINTS AWAY, AND RENNICK RULES THE DRIVER'S STANDINGS! IF THIS PATTERN CONTINUES FOR THE NEXT QUARTER OF THE SEASON, WE WOULD BE SEEING A TECTONIC POWER SHIFT IN FORMULA 1...!"
