Chapter 47 - Even Against Hackers' Unfairness

“……..I’ll adjust it, three or more.”

The hackers who dared to kill Chocoa right in front of me started gathering in the small room to break through the slightly loosened defenses at the site. Even if I threw a C4, there was no way I could kill all those enemies at that distance.

“I’ll hold the site; Yoon Gae, try to cover the rear from the office side as much as possible. Baraa, keep them at bay there, and if you see an opening… ah, shoot…”

Gunkoo, who had been holding his angle in a corner of the site, jumped forward and fired his gun, but without much success, his health greatly diminished as he moved to the opposite wall.

There was no time to be shocked by the enemy team’s superhuman reflexes; it was because they truly surpassed human limits.

Gunkoo hid behind a reinforced wall, keeping his body from becoming riddled with bullets, but if he moved even slightly, they would shoot with a narrow-angle.

“I’ll hold them off. Pull back.”

“Yes…?”

Dr…dr-r-r…dr…dr-r-r

This wasn’t about killing; it was about making sure to wipe out those who killed Chocoa. I pulled and released the trigger repeatedly, unpredictably, so the enemies couldn’t find a timing to peek or aim their guns.

Drr-r-r-r-r-rk…

Mara’s gun, the Vector, had a total of 25 bullets. If it were an LMG, I could buy more time, but with just 25 rounds, the enemy team knew this as well. As my final burst finished, they stuck their heads out from outside the small door to check Gunkoo’s position just as he was retreating.

Bang!

I always kept one last bullet, like savoring the best bite at the end of a meal. I lodged the final shot into the enemy’s head.

“Ki-e-e-e-eck!!! Th-that maniac doesn’t even bother hiding…! He’s just shooting from behind the wall!!!”

For the next 30 seconds, I continued to suppress the enemy team until they seemed to give up on breaching the site through the small room. Only distant screams were heard, and they threw smoke grenades to cover their retreat as I took additional action.

Ping! Pssh… Bang!!!

Breaking the small red container attached to Mara’s mirror, a hissing sound accompanied the gas leaking out, and Mara’s mirror was removed.

I widened the small hole I had previously opened with a shotgun, brought Aro with me from the wall fight, and entered the site together.

“Oh…”

Noticing something, Gunkoo quickly set up a barricade at the door where the enemy team had been engaging earlier and blocked all other possible entry doors with green barricades. He was a former pro, after all.

I told Aro, who was mumbling something in the corner, to let me know if anyone approached behind the barricade and reinforced the wall I had passed. It seemed like a silly plan.

Despite confirming that the enemy team had ESP due to Ninima’s death earlier, we were blocking all doors and waiting for them. I couldn’t see the chat, but the viewers were probably thinking the same thing.

Whirr, clunk… thunk!

I heard a familiar sound, and in front of me, there were two Mara mirrors. The left one was just an ordinary Mara mirror, while the right one had a broken glass, allowing shots to pass through.

“Wow… this is something really cool… you managed to surprise me… quite impressive.”

“Shut up and watch the CCTV to see if the enemy’s coming, you were the first one dead.”

“You dim-witted Yoon Gae! I swear… oh, wait, someone’s coming your way!”

I already knew from the footsteps. The enemy team had finally realized what I was doing, or maybe they were just pressed for time, and started a strategy that could actually be called strategic.

“……Two… Gunkoo, stick close.”

Ideally, Gunkoo, with proven skill, would secure the barricades better, but I called him over because of the enemy operator.

“They have a Thermite, do a trick on them.”

“Got it, Yoon Gae. Keep an eye on the barricade. One of them hasn’t been located, so stay alert.”

“Yup~”

Bang! Bzzz…

An EMP grenade from the enemy team’s Thatcher went off on the reinforced wall, and I heard something sticking to the wall.

Sizzle…

A foreboding sound came from beyond the barricade. If Thermite’s explosive penetrated even the reinforced wall, the site would be taken instantly.

Tick-

The ominous sound stopped, and I saw sparks through the Mara mirror. Bandit’s special ability was erasing bombs.

They tried sticking the explosives first and using EMP as a fake, but it was all clumsy and amateurish. Their remaining two attempts were all in vain. I continued holding back the enemy team’s progress through the Mara mirror, delaying even with under 10 seconds left.

I fired off rounds at random, poked my head out, and wasted both bullets and their time.

Ratatatat..!

Thermite moved forward, short on time, and Gunkoo was already watching the barricade from way before.

Ratatatatatatatata!

Thatcher, annoyed by my time-wasting fake-outs, suddenly fired a spray of bullets, and I just waited calmly.

Rata-tat tick!

Drrrrr-r-r-r-r-r-rk!

“If you’re out of bullets, you gotta die.”

As I turned to check behind, I heard an urgent voice.

“Sungkwang!”

“What? Sungkwang?! Where… ack!”

Startled, Yoon Gae tried to break the barricade but died from a shot at the same time. Gunkoo, who was covering him, also died while taking down one enemy with him.

“They’re in.”

“Haa…”

The last surviving hacker managed to plant the defuser, and I reloaded, leaned against the wall, and fiddled with the C4 clipped to my belt.

Bang!

The enemy seemed to know where I was and shot, aiming precisely at my head. If not for the wall, I would have died right then, but I had the wall.

“…….Can you locate them?”

“No, but since I haven’t heard footsteps, they’re probably by the bar.”

“Alright.”

I took a step forward, walking slowly to the open spot where there was no wall, stopping at the wall’s end.

Rat-a-tat!

Geez, they’re really pushing it.

Bullets flew at me even before I stopped, but I just fiddled with the trigger.

Click.

As I pulled my hand from my belt, I took off running, giving the trigger a squeeze as I went.

Tat-tat/Brrrr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-rk—

—Round 2 Victory

The game ended, and the video replayed to show how I won a one-on-one against the hacker.

Like before, I dashed out, but something blue appeared in view.

Tat-tat-tat…

My health dropped quickly, from 100 to 51, from 51 to 2. The last bullet aimed straight at my sight, but something else blocked my view.

Crack!

The C4 I threw earlier blocked the enemy’s guided bullet from hitting my head.

Drrrr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-rk—

In that brief opening, the Vector spewed bullets like it was avenging Chocoa. The enemy fell to the ground riddled with holes, and the video ended with me defusing.

“Wow.”

“Th-this… th-this… I-I can’t believe… W-what is this?!?”

“Wow… is this really the Lesik I know…?”

“…That was awesome…”

While there were other compliments, my head was filled with Chocoa’s one comment, “That was awesome.”

“…Hehe… heheh…”

“So cute…”

“What! You disgusting bastard!! This is grounds for execution! Quickly, everyone! Insult that idiot pervert! I permit it!”

For some reason, Ninima seemed genuinely furious, and while I was grinning foolishly, the game ended as two people moved to another call.

There was no particular reason why the game suddenly ended. Perhaps losing with hacks was such a shock that some blocks of text popped up in the chat, and then the opponents abruptly left.

They were probably fighting in Chinese or cursing our team. I reported them a while ago, so I just hoped Newbisoft would handle it as I exited the game and took a drink of water.

“Hm… if that’s the case, we could probably still win even with just handguns as a tournament penalty, right?”

“Oh… really…?”

“Right? I think we’d win.”

“Y-yes! Of course!! We… we’re definitely going to win!!!”

Clearing my throat, I drank the rest of my water and chatted with Chocoa… and a few others for a few dozen minutes before I wrapped up the surprise broadcast and said goodbye to the many viewers who had tuned in.

The fan noise from the computer gradually quieted until it stopped completely.

“Grr-rung…”

Only Strawberry’s gentle snoring filled the moonlit room. I closed the curtains, turned off the lights, and the room went completely dark. Lying down on the bed, I thought to myself.

Next week would be busy. I’d be able to work again, and at night, I’d have the chance to stream with Chocoa, chat, and play together.

Weekends would be the busiest. In the morning, I had Strawberry’s vaccinations, and I needed to buy various toys and other things, visit the hospital for the first time in a while… and Sunday evening was the Lesik tournament.

Thinking of the packed schedule, I tried to fall asleep quickly. If my body had fully transformed, maybe I’d even grow taller… Good night, everyone…

In the dark room, someone sipped a caffeinated drink while continuing a conversation.

“Y-yeah, come here tomorrow.”
