My Favorite Game Followed Me!

Chapter 608

It was still quite early in the morning when Anton returned to the luxurious apartment that was assigned to him by Ormunda. When he mentioned the opulence of his room to Cedon, the young supreme mage informed him that the apartment assigned to him was one of the least lavish rooms in the building where the mage squad was assigned.

"You have to understand, Anton. The building where you're stationed is for Supreme Mages. Opulence is expected since it's a form of respect for the powerful wizards that are supporting the kingdom," Supreme Cedon told him.

It was unexpected, but it was still very welcome to Anton. He knew that since he was going to concentrate on his Diablo II system, aside from fulfilling his duties in the walls of Mendoza, he would probably spend the majority of his time in his apartment leveling up his characters.

The main issue for him was, a ladder character took him from somewhere 10 to 20 days to reach the maximum level of his Diablo II characters, which was unusually lengthy, at least compared to those gamers who manage to do it within 10 to 12 hours. If one thinks about it, 20 days versus 12 hours was truly unusual.

In Anton's defense, even though he liked to game and Diablo II had been his favorite game for a long time since it was one of the only games that his old laptop back on Earth was able to play, he was not able to spend a lot of time gaming since he had to work the majority of the day to survive. That meant that he was truly far from being an expert. The only thing he could do was watch how the gamers game and copy them. The only problem was that the game inside his Diablo II system was different from the actual game, even though his system could actually connect to the developer's servers. He could actually copy Earth's Diablo II gamer exactly how they played. His system had what he called the offline option, or the hands-off option. He actually forgot what he called them before, but it was a process wherein he could play his game without virtually entering the world of Diablo II and play it as if he were in front of a computer.

Leveling that way would be extremely fast, but it would defeat the purpose of Anton learning how the magic felt when he cast the spells. He needed to experience the casting of spells personally since that was the only way Anton could learn the subtle nuances of spellcasting. That was the reason he was able to create enchanted items based on Diablo II spells.

Because he felt guilty for not leveling up his ladder Paladin, he concentrated on doing so for the rest of the day until he needed to rest, so he would be fully alert when the undead army attacked. He only made quick stops when he needed to attend to his bodily needs. Because of his focus, Anton managed to level up his ladder Paladin character from level 1 to level 40.

Thankfully, resting had never been a problem for Anton, and he was extremely grateful for his ocean friends, the blue whales and the pink dolphins, for giving him the pearl. He did see that there were similar items for sale in Ormunda, and even though they cost a staggering amount of gold coins, he could still afford them, but the pearl was a gift from those gentle sea creatures. He wished that someday he could meet them again.

When Anton woke up that night, he hurriedly ate his dinner and then joined his comrades where the magic arrays were installed. He saw that the ritual defense casters were already ready inside their magic arrays, but he knew they would be, since his shift was the second attack that the undead horde usually commenced every night.

Anton did not understand the purpose of the Undead Coalition's attacking every night. Was it to weaken the kingdom? In what way? Yes, there were deaths on Mendoza's side, but most of the damage was just injuries, and however deep an injury was, it could be healed immediately by healers. Was it to reduce Mendoza's resources? Mendoza was a rich and powerful kingdom abundant in resources, and even though one of the walls was being attacked, the rest of the kingdom continued its business. Farms were being farmed, and mana stones were being mined by adventurers over the dungeons surrounding the kingdom.

Not only that, Ormunda and New Drennor, both extremely rich and powerful kingdoms, were supporting Mendoza both in resources and people. Anton simply couldn't understand the coalition's nightly attack. Nevertheless, he would do his part and defend the walls to the best of his ability because if Mendoza fell, the only thing he could do was to run to the next kingdom that the undead would attack and do the same thing.

Anton hoped that this kind of passivity on the side of the kingdoms of the Gale continent wouldn't last long. Being passive would not win wars. In Anton's opinion, they need to attack the undead to kill them or drive them off the continent.

He felt that the reasoning that if Divines fight it out, a large part of the lands would be destroyed was bullshit. Anton thought that if the land were destroyed, so be it, as long as the undead were destroyed as well. This was a magical world, and they could use magic to restore the lands. He thought that destroying the lands was worth it as long as they cured it from the cancer of this world called the undead. When one thought about it, it was like how one would cure cancer. The body would be destroyed by the poison that would kill cancer cells, and after the cancer cells were gone, then it would be time for healing.

Cedon greeted Anton, who just nodded. He then entered the magic array without any ceremony. The first thing he did was summon all of his summons beside the warriors of Mendoza that were below the wall.

Anton could hear that some of the warriors tried to greet his Valkyrie and his Shadow Master, but of course, the summons did not respond. Some of those in the know finally shared the information that the "immortal beings" were not alive but were kind of mana constructs that were summoned by one of the wizards on top of the wall.

Of course, the question came, "Why only now," and it was shared with them that the wizard who summoned them was someone who had just arrived.

At first, Anton thought of sharing his Meditation Aura with the other members of his squad, but then he remembered what happened with that Invincible Wizard Katrina. The supreme wizards composing his squad were powerful, and he shouldn't belittle them by offering his aura with them.

He knew that Anton was just justifying his little bit of selfishness, but being overly generous caused him to be targeted by a powerful mage, and he didn't want that to happen again. At least, not until he was a known power in his own right that nobody would dare cross him.

Based on what happened the night before, it would be a few minutes before the second attack of the undead horde arrived, and after a while, Anton saw the humongous army arrive in the distance. Looking at the gigantic army, it looked like a tsunami, but instead of water, it was of monsters. A tsunami of monsters.
