Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Talking About Divorce
Qiao Zhenbin's phone call.
It was her father.
Qiao Xi answered the call a second before it dropped, her voice clear and cold, "Hello?"
"Did Nannan say she saw you at the wedding? Have you returned to Hai City?"
As the sunset gradually faded, the train carriage flickered with light and shade, and Qiao Xi's eyes were dim and unclear, "Is there something you want?"
"If you've come back, then come home. I haven't seen you in a year, and now that you're back in Hai City, you don't even contact me. Have you forgotten that you still have a home in Hai City? Come back right now, I'll wait for you!" Qiao Zhenbin commanded.
Qiao Xi had long lost any father-daughter affection with this nominal father.
Her mother had died in a car accident, and at that time, Qiao Zhenbin was messing around with another woman—who she caught in the act. Later, that very woman became her stepmother.
While her young mother had passed away, leaving behind a gaze filled with grief and despair that was etched in Qiao Xi's heart like stone.
It was only when Qiao Xi grew up that she realized that so-called eternal vows were nothing but empty words.
She had long since lost any attachment to that house; it was not her home.
Seeing Qiao Xi's silence, Qiao Zhenbin grew impatient, "Don't play dumb, can you hear me?"
Qiao Xi spoke indifferently, her voice frosty, "Is that my home?"
"How is it not your home? Qiao Xi, what nonsense are you spouting?"
"Didn't you just sell me off when you asked me to get married? Where is my home then?"
It was ridiculous. She was nothing but a sacrificial piece in a business marriage. Who would care about her?
Finding it hard to control her emotions, Qiao Xi cut the conversation short with a cold tone, "Shen Dang has asked me to see him, I don't have time to come back."
Qiao Zhenbin paused, skeptical, "Ah Dang is looking for you?"
"Yes."
"In that case, go see him first. You and your husband have not seen each other for so long; you must have a lot to talk about."
That was her father for you, only interested in benefits, and in her stepmother and stepsister.
Qiao Xi scoffed with irony and hung up the phone.
Qiao Xi curled up in her seat. Her limbs were slender, and she seemed to sink into the chair, while the darkness overhead enveloped her, and her sunglasses concealed any glimpse of her expression.
She looked as despondent and fragile as a fairy, arousing a reflexive sympathy.
Bei Bei dared not speak for a while.
The car interior felt like it had been divided into another, gloomier world.
Qiao Zhenbin's voice was loud, so Bei Bei could faintly hear the roar from the other end of the phone. Too terrifying!
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the villa.
Before getting out of the car, Qiao Xi said, "Wait for me outside."
"Got it."
Shen Dang chose their marital home in Yingyue Bay, and even though the marriage was fake, appearances had to be maintained. Madam Shen had deliberately taken her to see the place before the wedding, after which Qiao Xi never visited again.
Because she knew all too well that the marital home did not belong to her.
However, after so much time, she wasn't sure if the door code had been changed.
Qiao Xi tried entering the code, the door opened, and she walked into the living room.
The living room was dimly lit, the lights off, and she had no idea where Shen Dang had gone.
Sitting down on the couch, Qiao Xi flipped through her contacts, looking at a phone number saved two years ago but never contacted. The four identical digits at the end, 4, were as bold as the man himself.
She dialed the number, placed her phone on the coffee table, and switched on the speaker.
Shen Dang's casual voice came through, "Hello."
"I've arrived."
"Wait there."
A few minutes later, Shen Dang came down the stairs, having changed his clothes.
He sat on the adjacent couch, and a surge of moisture wafted over, mixed with the scent of ebony and aloeswood.
Qiao Xi shifted a little to the side and got straight to the point, "Mr. Shen, did you ask me to come over to discuss divorce?"
