My Daddy Hides His Power

Chapter 256

* * *

 Wizard Tower.

 Lilith Rubinstein’s Research Lab.

“To make me create a problem I can’t even solve myself? How am I supposed to do that? Hans, that guy has no conscience.”

Lilith, standing with her back to the desk, had been cursing her boss for 30 minutes already.

“When I revised it and brought it back, they only approved questions 12 to 15. Hah, at least he has an eye for things… Those questions were actually taken from a test I saw when I entered the Wizard Tower. They were questions that my master had made. They’re so difficult that no one will be able to solve them. Looks like he has no intention of hiring any new recruits. Isn’t that too much?”

 “Yeah. That’s bad.”

Cheshire, who had personally come to the Wizard Tower to solve math problems in response to Lilith’s SOS, nodded and agreed.

 “How is it, honey?”

“Ah, I don’t know about the last question. It’s hard.”

“Oh, really? Then I should add those questions…”

The sound of Lilith’s voice, constantly tormented by overtime work, was pitiful. Cheshire put down his pen and sighed.

“Should we go for a walk on your day off?”

“I gave up my holiday. That day is the new researcher’s entrance exam day. I have to be the supervisor.”

Lilith shook her head and made another suggestion.

“How about we go on my day off next week?”

“I’m going on a northern expedition at that time.”

 “….”

 “….”

The two looked at each other in silence, as if the whole world were trying to separate them.

Even so, the lovers in their prime were on fire.

With a narrowed gaze, Lilith flicked her hand, and Cheshire chuckled, standing up and walking over.

Cheshire, leaning over the desk as if to corner Lilith, lowered his head and kissed her first. Lilith’s arms instinctively wrapped around his neck.

They had been together for three and a half years, and today was their 1306th day.

Now, they knew what they wanted to say just by looking at each other’s eyes.

However, despite their awkward position, the couple entangled in a kiss was surprisingly wholesome, contrary to how it might have appeared.

 “….”

 “….”

The skinship that Lilith called ‘seal stamping.’

They were simply standing still, their lips pressed together.

 “Ah.”

As Lilith subtly stuck out her tongue, Cheshire, as always, firmly pulled away first.

Lilith laughed brightly, just as she hugged Cheshire’s neck.

“Let’s not just go for a visit. Nothing’s going to happen anyway, so why bother?”

 “Does something have to happen?”

It had been quite some time since Enoch’s ban on overnight stays was lifted, and although she had gone on a trip with Cheshire just the two of them, nothing at all had happened.

 Lilith once asked,

“You don’t know what comes after a kiss, do you? Then let me show you.”

 Then Cheshire answered.

“No, I know. I know what comes next, and the next after that too.”

Then what on earth is the problem with this man?

Cheshire, still holding Lilith in his arms, took something out of his pocket.

A purple ring case.

When Lilith recognized what it was, she froze and lowered the arm that had been wrapped around Cheshire’s neck.

 Tak.

As Cheshire opened the case with one hand, a ring adorned with a blue diamond revealed itself.

 “….”

 “….”

Cheshire took the ring out and slid it onto the fourth finger of Lilith’s left hand.

In fact, she had received earrings two weeks ago, and a necklace a week ago.

So, Lilith understood the meaning of this ring.  It was a line Cheshire had set to take the next step of ‘seal stamping.’

“…You too reincarnated from the Joseon era, didn’t you?”

 “What is that?”

 “Pft.”

Lilith, who had been laughing, opened her left hand and stared at the ring for a long time.

“It’s so pretty.”

 “….”

 “Thank you.”

 Then she looked at Cheshire.

The lovers were silent for a moment, their eyes locked.

 “…Sorry.”

After a long time, Lilith sighed and answered.

As if he knew it, Cheshire smiled and lightly kissed Liris on the forehead.

 “It’s okay.”

 * * *

“A man with an indomitable will! A belief that never gives up! He clung to the princess’s hem three times, but unfortunately, he was rejected all three times?”

 The capital, <Billy Black Pub>.

The red-haired man raised his voice refreshingly.

“The man who was rejected for the third time and returned, the most pitiful man in the capital! For Cheshire Libre!”

 “For!”

 “For!”

 “….”

The toast by Jemian Traha, a woman who could easily be mistaken for a man due to her sturdy and valiant appearance, caused three beer glasses to gather in mid-air.

The 1026th graduating class of the Ability User Training Center’s class reunion.

Jem, Rom, and Gerard stared blankly at Cheshire, who was the only one unable to raise a glass.

 “….”

Cheshire sighed and lifted the beer glass.

 “…For.”

 Ta-da!

In the evening, a cheerful cheer echoed through the bustling pub.

 “Kyaaah!”

Jem, having finished her beer in one shot, wiped her mouth and threw her arm around Cheshire’s shoulder.

“There’s no tree that won’t fall after ten hits, Cheshire!”

 “….”

“If you’re truly a man, what’s ten times? Keep going until you succeed! This sister will cheer you on!”

 Gerard, who was listening, frowned.

“Is that supposed to be comforting? I can’t find a single bit of consideration for the poor guy who’s getting hit ten times.”

“Yeah, Jem. Is Lilith a tree? What are you even talking about ‘hitting’…”

 Rom also frowned.

 “Oho, you don’t know.”

Despite the disapproving reactions from his friends, Jem grinned mischievously.

“After seeing my success story, you’re still saying that? Look at me. Alfredo Bervin, I hit ten times, right? In the end, I succeeded in getting through!”

Alfredo Bervin and Jemian Traha, members of the Royal Military Holy Combat Division, were set to get married next month after three years of passionate love.

“Huh? I said exactly! Like a woman! Powerfully! I’ll never let a drop of blood get on your hands! And he totally fell for it, didn’t he?”

“You’ve been set for marriage from the start anyway. It’s just that you pushed too hard, so Sir Alfredo kept hesitating and delayed it nine times.”

Gerard, who had corrected Jem, glanced at Cheshire.

“But then why… is Lilith rejecting it?”

“L, look at that sinister look!”

 Jem hit Gerard’s hand painfully.

“If you two fail to get married, why don’t you try seducing Lilith?”

 “What are you talking about?!”

 Gerard blushed and shouted.

“Stop saying such weird things and trying to tear our friendship apart!”

“If you don’t want to hear weird stuff, go date someone, you brat! Don’t waste that shining beauty of yours!”

“Why do you care whether I date or not? Ugh, why is it that the older she gets, the more she acts like an old man?”

 “Enough, enough!”

Rom calmed down the noisy atmosphere and asked Cheshire.

“Cheshire, but I’m curious too. The reason why Lilith is rejecting you—since it’s your personal matter, I won’t ask if you don’t want to talk about it, but…”

 Rom added with a cough.

“…If she said no, why did you propose three times? That’s not really like you.”

 “….”

“Hey, hey. No, that’s not it. It’s not that Lilith doesn’t like him that she is rejecting him.”

Instead of the silent Cheshire, Jem clicked her tongue and replied.

“It’s not that she doesn’t want to get married, it’s that she’s not ready for the wedding yet.”

Jem’s addition left Rom and Gerard tilting their heads in confusion.

“Oh, you know! The bride’s entrance…! Walking down the aisle with her dad, arms crossed, right? She wants to do that, but she can’t!”

 “….?”

 “….?”

The more they listened to the explanation, the more difficult it was to understand.

 “Lilith…”

Rom, who had been lost in thought for a moment, carefully opened his mouth.

 “…doesn’t have Dad”

Everyone was silent at his question.

Everyone stared blankly at Rom’s face.

 “Phew, the way you talk.”

“Doesn’t have a father? That’s too much, Rom. Be careful what you say.”

One by one, Jem and Gerard gave him a sharp look, and Rom flustered, floundering for words.

“No, what I meant! That’s not what I meant! Lilith, her father is here! The Duke is alive and well!”

 “Right.”

“But what exactly is not ready? Why can’t she walk down the aisle with her father’s arm around her?”

Jem scratched her cheek and glanced at Cheshire before saying.

“I’m not sure about the details, but apparently, there need to be two people. One on the left and one on the right, each with their arm around her as she walks down the aisle.”

 “What’s that?”

 Rom frowned.

“Does Lilith have two fathers? Is there some sort of secret about her birth?”

Cheshire, who had been silently listening to Rom’s words, snickered.

 “It’s similar.”

 At that moment.

 “Pfft!”

The man sitting alone at the table right behind Cheshire spit out the beer he was drinking, as if he was possessed.

 Everyone’s eyes turned to him.

Those who were absentmindedly watching the back of the white-haired man’s head,

“But, Jem. Are you wearing a dress for your wedding?”

 “Are you crazy?”

“Ahahaha! Wow, I can’t imagine! Jemian Trahara in a dress!”

 They started chattering again.

“Here… If you don’t mind, use it.”

Cheshire took out a handkerchief from his bosom and handed it to the man. The man hesitated, then turned around and took the handkerchief.

 “…Thank you.”

Cheshire joined in the noisy conversation of his friends again.

 And…

‘What? Entering the wedding with my arms linked with both fathers?’

Oscar Manuel, a man who happened to sit behind Cheshire while stopping by a pub, was shocked by the conversation he overheard.

‘Wait, does that mean I have to link arms on one side?’

 It was absurd…

He felt sorry for Cheshire, who had been rejected for ridiculous reasons.

 ‘What a stupid girl!’

 Oscar grabbed his head.

He could watch her from afar when she got married, but he couldn’t walk down the wedding aisle with her linking arms.

 Lilith probably knew that too.

But she was being stubborn for no reason.

He told her to forget the person who left and live happily, yet here she is, sitting around moping over some trivial nonsense.

 ‘This is driving me crazy.’

Oscar sighed, clutching Cheshire’s handkerchief tightly.

He was always an annoying guy, but seeing his face clouded with sorrow because of him… He feels complicated.

 ‘You little brat…’

Oscar looked back at Cheshire with pitying eyes.

 ‘I guess you’ll never get married… what am I going to do…’
