My Cyber Psychosis is Task Prompt

Chapter 131: Bone Shard's Invitation

John thought the doctor was worried about cyber psychosis.

Ryan shook his head.

He took off his rubber gloves and stood before the metal sink to wash up, faintly seeing John pacing in the clinic through the reflection on the tiles.

The doctor murmured, venting his complaints.

"Light footsteps, right? It's great being young, so many firsts to be excited about, but you'll get used to it eventually. Removing prosthetic limbs will be as common as changing a magazine."

Ryan seemed a bit weary.

He announced that the clinic will be closing for the day, then lazily reclined into a chair.

John was still examining the lines of his legs in the mirror — the muscle bundles made him stronger and more balanced.

"Move your ass, don't block the screen."

Ryan gulped down some alcohol, speaking with slight disdain.

"Prosthetic bodies can easily make one lose oneself, feel it? Overflowing strength, heightened senses... your kind suddenly becomes fragile."

Ryan's face changed color in the reflection from the movie screen.

He spoke softly, almost to himself.

"Why did we start implanting prosthetic bodies in the first place? Ah~ people gradually forget the answer, I've seen it many times, some patients in the clinic — from being forced at first to gradually enjoying it..."

"Not exactly enjoyment."

John dressed facing the mirror. "In my eyes, this city is still a damn mess, better to be strong than weak, a strong enough fist makes one eligible to speak, right?"

"Young people are always blindly optimistic, but in reality, no matter how high you climb, you'll never truly be free."

Every year, countless new faces emerge in Eden City.

Mercenaries and gang members are alike, making a name while being entangled in various ties — team welfare, middleman privileges, dignity and blood feuds, territory and interests...

"There are always things on the streets you can't refuse."

"You're right."

John finished dressing without further rebuttal.

Ryan thought he finally understood the peril of the streets.

John was merely busy settling the bill.

Fees were clearly listed on the invoice; as a regular customer, he was quite familiar.

He continued to speak.

"That's why I want to get myself a badass prosthetic body, doctor. I'm not taking this path to become some big shot. I just want to have the right to choose and refuse when encountering troublesome matters."

The doctor shifted from a sneer to silence.

Perhaps in his heart, he was mocking John's youthful aggression or maybe, recalling some memories.

The amber-colored liquor slightly glowed.

Ryan raised the bottle.

"Then I wish you luck, John, good luck..."

[Eden City - Dan Street No. 013]

John walked into the lobby of the apartment building.

The front desk concierge scanned his biometric information, matched it against the tenant list, and began to report.

"Welcome back, Mr. John. During your absence, no delivery information was received. No visitor registration, but there are two electronic messages waiting for you to listen..."

John suddenly halted.

The female concierge at the apartment front desk had been replaced by a humanoid robot, dressed in a neatly pressed skirt uniform, with metal facial armor and a built-in system connected to the whole building.

[Device: Intelligent Building Manager]

[Manufacturer: Jingke Heavy Industry]

The front desk robot was online; any firewall disturbance would alert the company's network security department.

John only paused briefly.

He barely moved to leave when a voice request popped up before him.

[Manager Briefing Communication Request/Confirmation]

He accepted and continued forward.

The electronic broadcast continued sounding in his mind.

John entered the empty elevator, the sound automatically transferred to the cabin speaker, played in sync; as he reached his floor, he received another request.

Due to the visitor privacy agreement and Black Light's obstruction, it couldn't directly jump forward; otherwise, the sound might transfer to the room, continuing to play...

It was like having a personal manager trailing behind, reporting from the lobby all the way.

[Product push has been delivered to your inbox, vehicle maintenance service detected, can bind vehicle system for customized service...]

The voice assistant switched to a gentle tone.

[During your absence, apartment-bound account had changed, username [Black Gold Gang W2] will no longer cover rent and attached packages; please bind a new account or pre-store, if need be...]

John had just stripped and entered the bathroom.

He waved to activate the panel.

Warm mist poured down.

John closed his eyes, feeling the exhaustion seeping into his bones, stood in the water for a long time before starting to cleanse the blood stains.

He recalled the voice messages he just heard, then awakened the smart manager again.

[Wish you a great day, sir.]

"Query account information."

[Loading, projecting...]

The mechanical voice sounded in the bathroom.

The water mist on the sliding glass door vanished, revealing room systems and various information.

John's prosthetic eye flickered.

The interface constantly switched thereafter.

The room system had been scanned by Black Light, enabling changes through the Atlanta Virtual Network, controlled by thought, no need to slide foam-covered fingers over the glass.

Account change for payments?

This new apartment traced back to the incident after which John returned to Dan Street, snatched back the driver and goods from the Owl Town gang's territory, preventing Mr. Vito from being humiliated by Bone Shards.

Afterward, he obtained the room authorization card.

Never considered rent and package issues; upon checking, they were all directly deducted from an account named [Black Gold Gang W2].

Dan Street Apartment No. 013 is a rental only.

It's an improvement-type apartment; the next upgrade options are only luxury properties and standalone villas.
