Chapter 397: Sports Meet Games
Next, the other classes began to perform their programs, one after another, until the final performance from the senior third class concluded.
Previously, each class conducted its activities in its own designated area. However, the school planned to use the holiday break for renovations, so some areas were now occupied. This time, the sports day events were performed in an order determined by drawing lots.
First up was the junior second class, whose event was a ball-bouncing race. The sight of the little ones walking while bouncing their balls was unbearably adorable. Some children, worried their team might lose, simply hugged the ball and ran. Others couldn't manage to bounce the ball at all and started wailing. Some bounced their ball right off the course without even realizing it, while others became so captivated by the ball that they started playing with it on their own. In any case, the laughter never stopped.
Up next was the senior first class. They presented a program called Ferocious Dragons Crossing the River! The children would get a running start before crawling through a series of tunnels one after another, much like a relay race. The fastest group would be declared the winner.
Some events, like the junior class's ball-bouncing race, required parental participation. Having parents around gave the young children a sense of security. The parents of the senior first class mostly played a supportive role, passing items to their kids and cheering them on.
Then it was the middle second class, who brought a game of Pot Pitching. Each child was given six sticks and had to throw them into a vase placed a short distance away. The group that got the most sticks in was the winner. Some parents were interspersed among the children, and the team's hopes for victory rested squarely on their shoulders.
The programs that followed were a mix, with some focusing on athletics and others on performance. Without exception, every single one brought joy to the parents and children in the audience.
Soon, it was time for the middle first class to get ready. They had not been drawn for two performance slots, but this segment involved playing two games. The first was a relay race, and the second was Eagle Catches the Chicks. For the relay race, the children formed one team and the parents another, competing in two groups. Since two parents were absent, Mr. Li and another teacher from the class filled in. Unsurprisingly, Zhang Yuxi and Lin Feng were placed in different groups.
When the whistle blew, the children and parents took off. Having learned from last time, all the parents were wearing sneakers! Lin Feng had incredibly long legs. In the blink of an eye, he had already reached the other side. The parents trailing him were utterly bewildered. His team, which had been lagging slightly, pulled far ahead thanks to his contribution.
Tian Tian, holding the baton, scampered forward but suddenly fell. The couple, who had already finished their leg of the race, held their breath. They relaxed only when they saw Tian Tian get back up and continue running, seemingly uninjured. Once Tian Tian finished her run, Lin Feng went over to her. "Are you alright?" he asked with concern.
Tian Tian shook her head and smiled sweetly. "I'm fine, it just hurts a little bit."
Just then, Zhang Yuxi also rushed over. "Are you okay, Tian Tian? Are you hurt? Let Mommy see!"
Tian Tian hugged Zhang Yuxi. "I'm okay, Mommy. It just hurts a tiny bit."
It was no exaggeration to say that Tian Tian was the family's treasured little pearl. Sure enough, her older brother and sister ran over to ask if she was alright. Even Mr. Li came over to check on her. Tian Tian insisted it only hurt a little and even jumped on the spot to show that she was perfectly fine!
Next, it was time for the game of Eagle Catches the Chicks. Lin Feng was chosen to be the mother hen because he was the tallest. Mr. Li played the eagle, while the children and other parents lined up behind Lin Feng as the chicks. Because the children were still quite small, interspersing them with the adults could lead to injuries. Therefore, the lineup behind Lin Feng started with the parents. Once the parents' line ended, the children followed, forming a little tail at the end.
The teacher announced loudly, "The game is starting now!"
A full minute passed, but Mr. Li hadn't caught a single chick. The mother hen's reactions were simply too fast; he had tried for a whole minute without success. Having no other choice, he called over two more teachers to join in. With three eagles on the hunt, how would the mother hen protect his brood?
Lin Feng suddenly realized he might have been taking it a bit too seriously and decided to go easy on them. Soon after, the "chicks" began to be caught one by one. The entire playground filled with the joyous laughter and screams of children and parents.
Finally, the mother hen had no chicks left, and the game was over! The teachers, children, and parents were all exhausted, but every face was beaming with a smile.
Lin Feng took a water bottle from his backpack and had his four children take small sips. When it was Tian Tian's turn, she scrunched up her little face after drinking.
"Daddy, it hurts here…" she said, pointing to her knee.
Lin Feng immediately checked it. Her knee was scraped and had a small cut. He pulled out iodine, cotton swabs, and a band-aid from his backpack.
"Be brave for a moment, Daddy will disinfect it and put a band-aid on, and it'll be all better."
Tian Tian pursed her lips. "Okay." Then she added, "Daddy, Tian Tian will be more careful next time!"
Lin Feng spoke softly, "Daddy isn't blaming you at all! You were super great today!"
Tian Tian smiled sweetly.
The second child comforted her, "Don't be afraid, it doesn't hurt!"
Everyone watched nervously. Zhang Yuxi reminded him, "Honey, be gentle, okay?"
"Mhm!"
Lin Feng gently cleaned Tian Tian's wound and applied the band-aid. "All done. No problem now."
Tian Tian sighed in relief. "Thank you, Daddy!"
Mr. Li came over. "What happened to Tian Tian?"
"She scraped her knee a little. I just put a band-aid on it," Lin Feng explained.
The teacher asked Tian Tian with concern, "Does it hurt, Tian Tian?"
"It doesn't hurt, Mr. Li!"
"You're so brave!"
Lin Feng always took excellent care of the children, and with their built-in "protection barrier," they had hardly ever gotten a single scrape or bruise.
A little while later, Lin Feng asked, "Tian Tian, does it still hurt?"
Tian Tian shook her head. "Not anymore!"
The sports day concluded after a speech from the school administration. As they were leaving, Mr. Li found it hard to say goodbye to the children.
The eldest said, "Mr. Li, we have phone watches! If we miss you, we'll give you a call!"
The youngest chimed in, "Yeah, yeah! And if you miss us, you can call us, too!"
The second child, ever the sweetest talker, said, "Mr. Li, I don't want to leave you!"
The other children also expressed how much they would miss Mr. Li, which was very reassuring for the parents to hear.
