Chapter 276 Let's Go Camping Together!
Lin Feng drove home, his car full of his new purchases.
He announced that they would go camping in a couple of days if the weather was good. He had bought three tents in total: two for camping outdoors, and a final one suitable for indoor use that could accommodate five to six people.
Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi moved the sofas in the living room aside and then opened the packaging.
"Babies, stand back. There are a lot of sharp objects here. Be careful not to hurt yourselves."
"Honey, I can set it up. Why don't you take the kids and stand aside?"
Zhang Yuxi quickly led the children to the side.
"Honey, do you need my help?"
Lin Feng shook his head while reading the instructions. "No need. I can handle it myself."
The setup was actually quite simple. It didn't take Lin Feng much time to assemble the tent.
Zhang Yuxi led the children upstairs. "Let's go. How about we get our little pillows and sleep in the tent in the living room?"
The children raced each other upstairs.
Zhang Yuxi called out from behind, "Be careful, little ones!"
The children carried their small pillows, and Zhang Yuxi held their little quilts.
Zhang Yuxi cautioned, "Make sure you watch the stairs, or you might fall down! If it's too heavy for you, tell Mommy, and I'll carry it for you!"
Among them, the Third Baby was the most delicate. Seeing her struggling, Zhang Yuxi reached out. "Sweetie, how about Mommy carries your little pillow for you?"
The Third Baby shook her head. "No need, Mommy. I can do it myself!"
She muttered to herself while carefully descending the stairs. Mommy's already holding so much. I shouldn't make her hold more! I'm fine, I can do it!
Zhang Yuxi felt both relieved and moved.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng had already laid out the moisture-proof foil mat. He then spread a cotton quilt over it, followed by a blanket.
The children lined up outside, each holding a little pillow, waiting.
"Alright, you can come in now."
No sooner had Lin Feng spoken than the children jostled to get inside. Even so, they subconsciously made way for one another, instinctively protective. They might bicker and occasionally even come to blows, but a little persuasion was all it took for them to be as affectionate as ever. Their bond was truly deep.
Lin Feng clapped his hands. "Kids, let's put our pillows down first, then Mommy can arrange the little quilts."
"We can play after we finish!"
Zhang Yuxi arranged the small quilts and pillows, then she and Lin Feng ducked inside. The children were jumping and yelling inside the tent, absolutely thrilled.
Lying in the tent, Zhang Yuxi reminisced, "The last time I used a tent was when we went camping with friends overseas!"
Lin Feng added, "The last time for me was freshman year, on a school-organized camping trip."
Who would have thought they'd now be parents.
Young kids have endless energy. After playing with them for a while, Zhang Yuxi felt nearly depleted.
"Honey, you play with them. I need to rest a bit!"
Lin Feng played with the children for a while and then suggested, "How about we bring the toys into the tent and play together?"
The toys would distract the children, which would give the adults a chance to rest.
By noon, Lin Feng went to cook. In the tent, Zhang Yuxi had fallen asleep without realizing it.
When Zhao Lizhen and Zhang Fuyong got home, they were startled to find a large tent set up in the house. The children ran out and dragged them inside.
"Grandpa, this tent is so fun! It's just like a little house."
"We can zip this up, and then we can't get out!"
"Daddy installed a light we can turn on!"
"We can sleep here tonight!"
Zhao Lizhen looked around, clearly pleased. She smiled and asked, "Do you kids like it?"
"We love it!"
"Daddy is the best!"
Seeing Zhang Yuxi asleep, Zhang Fuyong gently woke her. "Yuxi, wake up. Don't sleep here. Go to your room."
Zhang Yuxi yawned. "I fell asleep?"
Zhao Lizhen said with a smile, "You should go sleep in your room."
Zhang Yuxi shook her head. "It's okay, I'll go check on the kitchen."
Arriving in the kitchen, Zhang Yuxi asked, "Honey, do you need any help?"
"Wash the spinach, please. Use hot water so it won't have that astringent taste."
"Oh!"
Lin Feng always stir-fried just the spinach leaves for the kids. He chopped the leaves into fine pieces so the children could easily eat them with their spoons.
Lin Feng came up with different dishes for the children every day. He made sure they were well-fed and that their meals were nutritionally balanced. Lin Feng was a good cook, and the kids ate everything without being picky.
After he finished the last dish, Lin Feng announced, "Dinner is ready!"
Zhang Yuxi went to call her parents for dinner and took the children to wash their hands.
Zhao Lizhen glanced at the children's meals and couldn't help but admire her son-in-law's attentiveness.
After the meal, the children patiently waited for Zhang Yuxi to wipe their mouths with a cool towel.
PATTER, PATTER, PATTER. They all ran off to play in the tent again.
Lin Feng asked, "Dad, Mom, are you free in the next few days? We're planning a family camping trip, and I've already bought the tents."
Zhao Lizhen's interest was immediately piqued. "I'm free."
"How about we invite Uncle An and his family as well? It'll be more lively with more people," she suggested.
Lin Feng had no objections. "Sure. I'll go buy another tent from the store then."
That afternoon, while Zhang Yuxi was telling the children stories, Lin Feng went out and bought another tent.
As soon as he got home, the four children went wild, swarming him. "What's going on?" he asked, startled.
He looked at Zhang Yuxi questioningly.
Zhang Yuxi sighed. "They kept asking where you were, so I told them you went to buy another tent. I might have also mentioned the camping trip... and now they refuse to take a nap. They're just waiting to go."
So that was the reason.
Lin Feng crouched down. "We're going tomorrow. Right now, it's nap time!"
The children had learned from Zhang Yuxi that camping meant catching butterflies, chasing insects, and all sorts of other fun things. They were filled with such longing at the thought that they couldn't possibly sleep.
The Second Baby tugged at his hand. "Daddy, but we want to go play sooner..."
"Daddy, you're the best! I love you the mostest... even more than Mommy! Pleeeease take us out to play now!"
Zhang Yuxi was speechless.
The Fourth Baby quickly added, "Daddy, we'll be good! Let's go, please!"
The First Baby panted, "I want to catch fish and chase birds..."
Lin Feng glanced at Zhang Yuxi, who feigned innocence. "Well, we did do that on our last camping trip!"
Even the usually quiet Third Baby grew impatient.
"Daddy, you can drive the car. We'll sleep in the car, okay?"
Lin Feng put a hand to his forehead. Being a parent is so conflicting sometimes. He didn't want to refuse them, but he also didn't want to set a precedent where they always got what they wanted.
Finally, Lin Feng spoke with great seriousness. "Alright. Daddy agrees this time!"
The children immediately danced with joy. "Hooray!" They lavished him with praise, flattering him to the high heavens.
Lin Feng remained unmoved, his expression still very serious. "You need to sleep quietly in the car. We'll wake you up once we've finished packing! You must take a nap, understand? Otherwise, Daddy will be angry!"
The children all nodded in unison.
Zhang Yuxi went upstairs to get her parents, and then she called An Lan. Lin Feng tasked them with packing while he went to the supermarket for barbecue supplies.
He bought ingredients for the barbecue, including vegetables like cauliflower and oyster mushrooms. He also bought Zhou Heiya snacks, potato chips, and other similar items. In short, he bought everything he could think of.
