My College Teacher is My Children's Mom

Chapter 270 Zhang Yuxi's Secret

The babies picked up their toys and toddled off to the living room to play.

Zhao Lizhen sat down and let out a tired sigh.

"Mom, drink some water," Zhang Yuxi said, pouring her a glass.

Zhao Lizhen took a few sips to moisten her throat before continuing. "Today, an art company wanted to sign a long-term partnership with us. I talked myself hoarse, but we still couldn't agree on a price. They just wanted to freeload, not willing to pay a single cent! Hah, I don't know where they get the nerve, wasting my entire precious day!"

Zhao Lizhen took out her phone and dialed Zhang Fuyong.

The call connected, and Zhang Fuyong's words were slurred from the moment he spoke. "Hon... Honey?"

"Where are you?" Zhao Lizhen asked coldly.

She strained her ears, recognized a few familiar voices on the other end, and her expression immediately darkened.

"When will you be back?"

"We're just playing a little longer. I'll be home in an hour," Zhang Fuyong said with a laugh.

Zhao Lizhen said nothing and hung up.

Zhang Yuxi came over to speak up for her father. "Dad's probably just tied up with a social engagement he can't get out of. Mom, let's try to be more understanding."

Zhao Lizhen glanced at Lin Feng out of the corner of her eye and whispered, "I heard Uncle Mei's voice. How could I possibly be at ease?"

Zhang Yuxi's expression faltered. "Then I'll have Lin Feng pick Dad up."

Zhao Lizhen motioned for her to lower her voice. "Don't let Lin Feng go. I don't want him getting involved with your Uncle Mei."

Zhang Yuxi saw the logic in that and urged her, "Mom, then you need to hurry and find someone... Wait, do you know where he is?"

Zhao Lizhen gave a sly smile and opened a couples' tracking app on her phone. After a moment, she located Zhang Fuyong's position. She then stood up to call An Lan's father.

With his exceptional hearing, Lin Feng had heard the entire conversation between the mother and daughter. After Zhao Lizhen left, he asked, "What's the deal with Uncle Mei?"

"You heard that?" Zhang Yuxi asked, surprised.

"We're on the same couch. How could I not?"

Zhang Yuxi sighed. "Uncle Mei is Dad's business partner. They were also classmates. He started off playing slot machines and things like that, but then it got out of hand. He even took Dad to gamble a few times, and Dad lost over a million. My mom only found out after she checked the bank transfer records."

"After that, she forbade Dad from seeing Uncle Mei. She was incredibly strict for a while, constantly checking up on him. Uncle Mei used to have a fortune of over one hundred million, but I heard he gambled away tens of millions. When I left Modu, Uncle Mei and Aunt Mei were in the middle of a divorce, but he was still in contact with Dad. But Mom kept a tight watch, and after losing so much money, Dad sobered up."

She continued, "But it's hard for people to control themselves when it comes to things like this. Otherwise, why would so many people end up with their families shattered and lives ruined over something like this?"

Losing over a million was not a huge amount for the Zhang Family, but the key issue was that the man surnamed Mei was a ticking time bomb. In a vast city like Modu, you couldn't just banish someone. All they could do was stay vigilant and keep a close watch.

Looking at Lin Feng, Zhang Yuxi suddenly grew anxious. "Honey, you have to promise me you'll never touch that stuff!"

Lin Feng smiled. "I won't. Your husband is more clear-headed than that. I wouldn't do something so foolish."

A restless Zhao Lizhen returned to the living room. "It's getting late. You two take the children to get some rest."

At nine o'clock that evening, Lin Feng was busy washing the babies' faces, hands, and bottoms, while Zhang Yuxi was absently dressing them.

Lin Feng took the task from her. "Why don't you go downstairs and keep Mom company? I'll take care of the kids."

"Okay. Thanks, honey!"

Zhang Yuxi went downstairs, where she found Zhao Lizhen staring blankly into space.

"Mom, any news?"

Zhao Lizhen snapped out of it, her expression tinged with anguish. "After I hung up on your dad, his phone was turned off. My heart is pounding, I'm so anxious. Just now, your Uncle An called. He said your dad is with Uncle Mei. He said he heard them at one of those big round tables, seven or eight people playing together. It's obvious what they were doing..."

Her voice trembled. "Do you think your dad played? He's so gullible. They might have ganged up to cheat him. And that shameless man, Mei! I told him explicitly not to contact your father again, and look at this..."

The more she spoke, the more Zhao Lizhen wanted to hit someone.

Zhang Yuxi comforted her, "Mom, don't worry. Maybe it's not what you're thinking."

Zhao Lizhen didn't reply. Just then, An Lan's father returned, bringing her husband with him.

"Honey, you..." Zhang Fuyong had just begun to speak when he was cowed by Zhao Lizhen's expression.

Zhao Lizhen turned and smiled at An Lan's father. "I'm so sorry to have troubled you this late at night."

An Lan's father waved it off. "Ah, when will you ever stop being so formal!" He glanced at Zhang Fuyong and said to Zhao Lizhen, "He wasn't at the table when I got there. It's possible he didn't play at all. Just talk to him calmly."

"I will," Zhao Lizhen nodded.

"Well, I'll be off then."

"Thank you again for your trouble."

"It was nothing, just a quick trip."

After seeing An Lan's father out, Zhao Lizhen said flatly, "Yu Xi, go upstairs to bed. I need to have a word with your father."

Zhang Yuxi shot her father a look—he was on his own now—and went back to her room.

The babies were already asleep. Lin Feng was using her old desktop computer, fiddling with something.

"Is Dad back?" he asked.

"Yeah," Zhang Yuxi said, moving closer. "What are you looking at?"

She peered at the screen and saw an electronic diary of hers. There were also some cheesy CEO romance novels: "The Overbearing CEO Falls for Me," "The Villainous Tyrant's Tender Wife," "The Stand-In Wife"... and even works by the infamous Teacher Bai. There was also a file that seemed to be titled something like, "My High School Grades Weren't Ideal?"

She hadn't used this computer in years. She'd bought it for studying back in high school. She started using laptops when she went abroad, going through two or three of them by the time she graduated. This desktop, on the other hand, was rarely used and had just been sitting here ever since.

As a result, Zhang Yuxi had completely forgotten what was even on it.
