Chapter 256 - Mysterious Parking Garage Encounter
Dario massaged his throbbing temples, his bloodshot eyes barely able to stay open. "I knew it! You didn't sleep either!"
"I'm about to head down for breakfast. Can we discuss this afterward?" Veronica replied, feeling the weight of exhaustion pressing down on her shoulders.
Despite looking like death warmed over, slumped in his chair like a marionette with cut strings, Dario spoke with unmistakable enthusiasm. "Discuss? Absolutely, we need to discuss this!"
Creative inspiration was like lightning—unpredictable and fleeting. They needed to capture it while it still crackled between them.
"Agreed," Veronica nodded.
Just as she finished her breakfast and was reaching for her phone to video call Dario, Leon's name flashed across her screen.
"I just received word from Cullen's attorney," Leon said without preamble. "The paperwork for those three villa properties he transferred to you has been processed. I'll be picking them up later today."
He paused briefly before continuing, "When would you be available to collect them? If your schedule is tight, I can arrange to bring them directly to you."
The property transfer had completely slipped Veronica's mind. Her attention had been consumed elsewhere lately.
"Thank you, Mr. Bell. I appreciate you handling this," she replied, genuine gratitude in her voice.
The moment she ended the call, she and Dario dove headfirst into their work. They labored intensely until midday, their mental faculties nearly short-circuiting from the constant strain before finally agreeing to take a much-needed break.
Veronica had last visited Cook the previous Sunday. She and Mary had already planned to see her again that afternoon. However, after pulling an all-nighter and still not having caught up on sleep, Veronica suggested over lunch that they postpone until evening.
Mary took one look at Veronica's exhausted face and readily agreed. "That's fine. We'll go after dinner instead."
Veronica collapsed into bed for a nap and didn't stir until nearly six in the evening. After dinner, she and Mary made their way to the hospital. When they arrived, Cullen was nowhere to be seen.
They spent almost two hours at Cook's bedside. Just as they were preparing to leave, Cullen returned.
He didn't register any surprise at their presence. It was almost as if he had anticipated their visit.
Noticing their departure preparations, he said with practiced politeness, "Thank you for visiting Grandmother."
Neither Veronica nor Mary acknowledged his gratitude with a response.
Cullen pressed the elevator button for them and then asked casually, "Have you received the property deeds yet?"
"Not yet," Veronica replied curtly.
As they stepped into the elevator, Veronica turned to face him. "No need to see us out. Go back to your grandmother."
Cullen hesitated momentarily but didn't push further. Interestingly, he didn't inquire more about the deeds, suggesting he had merely mentioned them as a conversation starter.
Once the elevator doors sealed shut, Mary finally asked the question that had been on her mind. "What property deeds was he talking about?"
"He transferred some properties to me as part of the divorce settlement," Veronica explained simply.
Mary nodded in understanding. "Well, if he gave them to you, they're rightfully yours. Keep them."
"I intend to," Veronica replied.
By the time they arrived home, Leon was already waiting for them. He didn't linger long after delivering the documents and departed shortly thereafter.
Veronica carried the property deeds to her bedroom, unceremoniously shoved them into a cabinet drawer, and headed for the shower.
After such an exhausting day coupled with severe sleep deprivation, she fell into a deep slumber almost immediately after her bath.
The following morning, Veronica went for her routine run, enjoyed a hearty breakfast, and then set off for the office.
As she approached the entrance to DataPulse's underground parking garage, she noticed a car with its window rolled down. Through the open window, she spotted Marco sitting inside.
Her brow furrowed in confusion. What was he doing here so early in the morning?
If her memory served correctly, there weren't any scheduled meetings between DataPulse and Marco today. His unexpected presence sent a small ripple of unease through her otherwise composed demeanor.
