Chapter 9: Choice(2)
After contemplating for a while, Sein made his choice.
"It's the first one, System," he conveyed through his thoughts.
While Nyxathar's path was undoubtedly powerful and intriguing, it simply couldn't compare to the first. Dreams and nightmares might sound impressive, but they paled in comparison to the mastery of space and time. The sheer dominance of the Tindalos hound made the choice clear to Sein.
After Sein made his decision, the two evolution trees vanished, leaving only the first path visible, leading to the ultimate form—Lord of Tindalos Hound, Mh'ithrha.
Suddenly, a system notification appeared.
[DING! It is detected that the host has chosen the evolution route. The host has been granted 1 Free Evolution Opportunity. Subsequent evolutions must be achieved by the host's own efforts.]
Sein's eyes lit up at the notification. A free evolution opportunity was a rare gift, and it seemed the system was generous for his first step.
Sein decided to postpone using the free evolution opportunity until he could return to a quieter location, as it might cause a commotion and attract unnecessary attention.
Refocusing on his surroundings, he realized he had returned to the room where everyone had earlier gathered to awaken their skills using the skill books.
Inside, only the lead teacher remained.
Noticing Sein's arrival, the teacher looked up and said, "Ah, you're back. The others left some time ago for the practice area to test their skills."
He paused before continuing, "Well, since you haven't used the skill books yet, you can try now if you'd like."
"Yes, teacher," Sein replied.
He gently placed Kuro down. "Wait a moment, Kuro."
Then, he took out two skill books.
These skill books were connected to a central repository, where high-level Awakeners had shared their basic skills. Created by the four major superpowers of the world, these books were distributed globally to help newly awakened individuals quickly access basic skills. Advanced skills, however, were not included, as they could only be created by the users themselves.
Using a skill book was simple: one only needed to place it on their forehead and focus. Then, they could select a skill from a wide range of specific career-related abilities.
Placing the skill book on his forehead, a vast amount of information flooded Sein's mind, showcasing many of the basic skills of the "Beast Tamer" career, developed by predecessors.
Sein quickly went through the list, carefully reviewing the options. After a moment of consideration, he selected two skills.
The first was "Beast Space," a fundamental ability that allowed him to create a personal space for his beasts, effectively storing them within it. The space provided an optimal environment for the beasts to rest and recover, keeping them safe and comfortable while not in use. It was an essential skill for Beast Tamers, Dragon Tamers, and Summoners, as it allowed them to manage their beasts with greater ease and ensure their well-being during travel or battle.
The second was "Senses Sharing," a skill that enabled him to share his beast's senses, like hearing and sight, with himself. This ability would allow him to experience the world through his beasts, enhancing his awareness and decision-making in critical situations.
He used both skill books, feeling as though something was being absorbed into his body and mind. When it was over, he realized he could use both skills as if they were his own. He was amazed by the seamless transfer of abilities through the skill books and the ability of 4 major super countries to develop this.
After using the skill books, they lost their luster, looking like ordinary glass. He put them away and picked up Kuro, who was happily rolling on the ground.
He then approached the teacher and asked about the training room, where the other students were already practicing.
After bidding the teacher goodbye, he made his way to the training room to join the other students.
After walking down the hallway for a short distance, he arrived at the entrance to a room. As he stepped inside, he was taken aback by the sheer size of the space.
After walking down the hallway for a short distance, he arrived at the entrance to a room. As he stepped inside, he was taken aback by the sheer size of the space. The room was expansive, with different areas designated for various types of training. Students were spread out across the large space, each focused on honing their skills. Some practiced with dummies, while others experimented with their abilities in smaller, specialized zones.
Soon, after walking for a while, Sein spotted Roy practicing with a knife in front of a training dummy.
"Hey, you're back!" Roy exclaimed upon noticing Sein's return.
Roy's gaze shifted to Kuro in Sein's arms. "Is that your beast? A dog?" he asked, curious.
"He's not just a dog, he's a dark dog, and his name is Kuro," Sein said with a grin.
Roy extended his hand toward the pup. "Come here, Kuro," he called gently. But Kuro quickly squirmed away, retreating deeper into Sein's hold.
Sein chuckled. "Haha, don't mind him. He's still getting used to things."
"Well, never mind," Roy said, retracting his hand.
Shifting the topic, Sein asked, "So, what skill did you choose?"
Roy grinned, "I went with 'Shadow Walk'—it lets me travel through shadows —and 'Backstab,' which increases damage when I attack an unsuspecting enemy from behind."
Roy demonstrated with a grin, stepping into the shadow of a nearby pillar. In a blink, he vanished, only to reappear a moment later, having traveled a short distance.
Sein's eyes widened in appreciation. "Wow! That's pretty amazing."
A bit curious, Sein asked, "How long can you actually travel through shadows?"
Roy shrugged and replied, "Well, since I'm still a low-ranked Awakened, I can only use it for a few seconds at most. As I improve, I'll be able to extend it."
Roy raised an eyebrow, curious. "So, what about you, Sein? What skills did you choose?"
Sein smiled and said, "I chose a couple of basic ones. One is called Beast Space, which lets me store my beasts in a separate space for them to rest and be safe. The other is Senses Sharing, where I can link my senses with my beast—like seeing and hearing through them."
Roy looked impressed. "That sounds pretty useful. So, you can see and hear through Kuro whenever you want?"
"Exactly," Sein nodded. "It'll come in handy when I need to be aware of things from different perspectives."
