My Beast is really not an evil god

Chapter 2: Awakening(2)

After Jack entered the Awakening chamber, the room fell silent. Even Roy, usually the most talkative among them, seemed too tense to speak, his eyes fixed on the chamber door.

A few moments later, a bright flash of light illuminated the room, signaling the end of Jack's Awakening. The door opened, and Jack stepped out, his face beaming with excitement. The grin on his face was enough to confirm the outcome before he even spoke.

"Congratulations, Jack! It looks like you've successfully awakened. What career did you get?" Mr. Borr asked, his voice warm with encouragement.

Jack puffed out his chest, his confidence evident as he replied, "Teacher, I've awakened as a Brawler."

Mr. Borr gave an approving nod, scribbling the result onto his list. "A common career, but reliable and strong. Well done."

In the Awakening ceremony, every individual awakened to a career, a supernatural role that determined their abilities and future potential. Careers ranged widely in strength and prestige. At the bottom were poor careers, such as Gardener or Servant, which, while far beyond the capabilities of normal humans, were considered weak by awakened standards.

Common careers like Brawler, Hunter, or Scout were far more versatile and practical, often leading to steady opportunities in society. But the most coveted were the special careers—rare and powerful professions like Light Mage, Alchemist, or Beast Tamer. These careers placed their wielders at the top of society, commanding respect and envy in equal measure.

After Jack's successful Awakening, Mr. Borr called out the next student to enter the chamber.

With the first success easing the tension, the atmosphere in the room lightened considerably. Some students gathered around Jack, bombarding him with questions about his experience. Jack answered each one with a wide grin, clearly enjoying his moment in the spotlight.

Sein, however, remained seated, his attention drawn to Roy, who leaned closer and asked in a quieter tone, "Hey Sein, do you think I'll be able to awaken?"

Sein smirked, unable to resist the opportunity to tease. "Oh, I seem to recall someone bragging at the bus stand about what amazing career they'd awaken. Now look at you."

Roy's face turned red, a mixture of embarrassment and indignation. "What do you mean? I was just asking, you know, in case. Obviously, I'll awaken a very high career!" he retorted defensively.

"Oh, is that so?" Sein replied, his tone laced with mock amusement.

As the two bickered, the second student emerged from the chamber. Unlike Jack, his expression was subdued, his shoulders slumped slightly.

Mr. Borr frowned as he addressed him. "What happened, Vel? Did you fail to awaken?"

"N-No, teacher," Vel stammered, his voice tinged with disappointment. "It's just… I awakened as a Chef."

A wave of murmurs rippled through the room as the other students exchanged glances. Chef was considered a poor career, one of the least desirable outcomes.

Sensing Vel's unease, Mr. Borr stepped forward, his tone firm yet reassuring. "Don't let it get to you, Vel. Becoming a Chef isn't as bad as it seems. Sometimes, even a so-called poor career can surpass those above it. Haven't you heard of people like Wrenston or Fred? They started with poor careers, yet they went on to achieve greatness and are now among the leading figures in the World Border Wars."

Vel nodded hesitantly, his expression still uncertain. While there were indeed examples of people with poor careers rising to prominence, those cases were rare. Achieving such feats often required extraordinary effort, immense luck, and resources that most could only dream of.

With a heavy heart, Vel stepped away, walking toward the side of the room. Watching him leave, Mr. Borr began calling out the next students. One by one, they entered the Awakening chamber. Some returned with smiles, having successfully awakened a career, while others walked back with downcast faces, empty-handed and dejected.

Suddenly, the room was flooded with an intense burst of light from the chamber. Gasps rippled through the students as the sheer brightness dazzled their eyes. Mr. Borr, usually composed, showed a rare spark of excitement. Such a powerful light could only signify the awakening of a special career—or, even more extraordinary, a legendary career.

As the light gradually faded, the door opened, and a figure emerged. He was tall and composed, with long red hair tied into a neat ponytail and glasses perched on his nose. His presence alone commanded attention, and the entire room seemed to hold its breath.

"Claud!" Mr. Borr called out, his tone uncharacteristically brisk. "How was the Awakening?"

The student in question was Claud, one of the most popular figures in the class. His sharp features, polished demeanor, and confident aura had earned him admiration from nearly everyone.

Claud offered a gentle smile, his voice calm but firm. "Teacher, I've awakened the special profession Paladin."

The room fell into a stunned silence. Then, whispers spread like wildfire as students exchanged envious glances. Awakening a special career was a dream come true for most—a level of power and prestige that placed one far above the ordinary.

"Good, good," Mr. Borr said, nodding quickly, a wide grin on his face. While a special career wasn't quite as remarkable as a legendary one, it was still among the best. Claud's awakening would not only boost his future but also bring extra rewards and recognition to the academy for nurturing such a talent.

The students' gazes followed Claud as he returned to his seat, his calm smile never wavering. The gap between him and the others seemed to widen in more ways than one.

As more students went in and out of the Awakening chamber, the tension in the room fluctuated. Successes brought cheers, while failures cast shadows of doubt. Suddenly, Mr. Borr called out loudly:

"Registration number 4447, Roy Phoenix!"

Hearing his name, Roy shot up from his seat, brimming with energy.

"It's finally my turn!" he exclaimed, turning to Sein with his characteristic cheeky grin. "Watch closely. I'm about to come out with a legendary career. Just wait and see!"

Sein chuckled, raising a hand in a mock salute. "Sure thing. I'll be waiting," he said, giving Roy a casual thumbs up.

With a confident stride, Roy made his way toward the chamber, his excitement radiating through the room. Some students couldn't help but smirk at his bold claims, while others whispered among themselves, curious to see if he could live up to his own words.
