Chapter 275: Underground Prison, Seeing the Light Again

The warden, "Julius," confronted the four members of the brigade simultaneously.

Using the commotion caused by the crow flock, Urushibara Osamu silently reached a hidden corner of the Hokkaido superpower prison.

And Robert, holding a phone, followed beside him, scratching his mechanical head, looking somewhat bewildered. On the phone, a hacker's immature voice kept coming through:

"The network defenses set up by these bastards are strong. It would take at least ten minutes to hack into the prison system's control center, but that's too slow. So first, I hacked into the surveillance system to inform you of Ryukawa Chiba's exact location, and you all head that way."

"Plus, I've disguised Tong Zizhu as internal personnel to enter the underground control room. Tong Zizhu can open many complex mechanisms underground for us; as for simpler mechanisms, I can quickly resolve them in a short time without needing her."

Urushibara Osamu listened silently, hands in the pockets of his black trench coat, walking calmly beneath the crow flock.

He passed through a dark tunnel, entering the underground.

Although this prison claims to be a military base and looks intimidating on the surface, it's actually just a facade. The truly dangerous criminals are detained underground, with most of the structures above ground merely for show.

"Found it, Ryukawa Chiba is locked in an isolated cell at the deepest part of the underground tenth level. You all need to get through a bunch of defense systems to reach him," the hacker said, "like infrared security nets that shoot lasers when stepped on, etc. Oh... It's all a small case for the team leader!"

A flock of crows flew behind Urushibara Osamu, swarming into the cramped underground tunnel and finding a silver metal elevator at the end.

Then, he and Robert's figures were enveloped by the crow flock, vanishing from the original location.

Crows fell into the cab, and with the exchange of positions with the crows, Urushibara Osamu naturally took Robert into this elevator leading underground. Robert's head spun; he still wasn't accustomed to being led by the leader's superpower.

During this special period, only the warden's ID card can activate this elevator.

"Hacker."

Urushibara Osamu looked at the elevator's control panel, where each button was locked.

"I heard, I heard, underground tenth level, underground tenth level..." the hacker murmur on the phone, "Let me see... Hmm, okay."

As the control panel gradually glowed with a cold blue light, the elevator plummeted uncontrollably. Edges rubbed against the air, sparking violent electric sparks.

Robert's head spun even more, and he lay on the ground retching violently.

Soon after, the elevator stopped.

When the metal door of the cab opened, before their eyes was a long tunnel with an invisible end and a seamless infrared security net.

Urushibara Osamu grasped Robert's shoulder, leaned against the elevator wall to stand down, and the pre-arranged crow flock inside the elevator surged forward, swiftly traversing the tunnel like a storm, rushing to the deepest part.

From afar, the crow flock seemed to coalesce into a massive black serpent slithering forward.

Amid thundering noises, the serpent formed by the crow flock crashed back and forth, repeatedly triggering the infrared defense system, shooting blinding lasers from the pits on the walls.

The crow flock resembled a black beast, shedding its skin and flesh under the laser barrage, but the perilous beams never reached its innards. Eventually, after losing over a thousand crows, only two remained, flying to the tunnel's end.

Upon witnessing this, Urushibara Osamu grasped Robert's shoulder and exchanged positions with one of the crows.

Standing at the tunnel's end, behind him lay the corpses of countless crows, forming a river of blood and black feathers, flowing within the tunnel. With no detected life forms, the infrared device fell silent.

Urushibara Osamu raised his eyes, expressionless, glancing at the metal door ahead, then lowered his head, inspecting the dim control device while asking the phone's cartoon hacker:

"Hacker, can you open it?"

"I can't open it; this thing isn't unlockable by passwords, but Tong Zizhu has entered the central control room."

The hacker spoke while pulling up the central control room's surveillance interface on the phone.

Tong Zizhu, disguised as a white-robed worker, had already broken in, slashing and knocking out each helpless staff member.

Afterwards, under the hacker's guidance, she manipulated the control console.

Urushibara Osamu withdrew his gaze from the phone, and soon the adjacent control device emitted a green glow, with the door in front of him rising upwards accordingly.

He walked inside. Robert followed retching, still unsettled from the elevator's rapid descent.

Another lifting door behind the front lifting door. A total of five doors, opened one by one with Tong Zizhu's assistance.

In the next moment, Urushibara Osamu saw dozens of guards. They knelt on the front tunnel, rifles in hand, raising their barrels, simultaneously pulling the triggers, spraying a curtain of bullets toward his body.

Urushibara Osamu grabbed Robert's shoulder as the crows spread forward.

At the same time, a smoke bomb was suddenly thrown from Robert's hand and exploded on the ground. The mist instantly enveloped the entire corridor, with flocks of crows constantly appearing in the fog.

The guards fired wildly in the smoke at the crows that appeared intermittently, ultimately leading to a scene of mutual destruction. Bullets pierced through their own comrades' bodies.

Soon after, a large group of guards fell, and the survivors had their throats slit by playing cards.

In the deadly silence, a crow spread its wings and flew over the bloody sea of corpses, entering the room behind the guards, then scattered into a flurry of crow feathers. The figures of Urushibara Osamu and Robert appeared at the center of the feathers.

Urushibara Osamu lifted his head and saw a massive room. The walls on all sides were transparent, revealing the scene within without any obstruction.

In the center of the transparent room sat a man with slicked-back hair, wearing black and white prisoner clothes, engrossed in reading. Below him was a wooden chair.

Ryukawa Chiba raised an eyebrow, adjusted the frameless glasses on the bridge of his nose, and looked up at Urushibara Osamu, meeting his deep gaze.

"Long time no see," Urushibara Osamu mouthed silently. The sound couldn't penetrate the transparent walls, so he could only communicate through lip-reading.

Ryukawa Chiba was momentarily stunned, then smiled slightly, mouthing, "Captain, you really came to find me."

His eyes beneath the lenses were filled with suppressed frenzy. In truth, since joining the brigade, Ryukawa Chiba's deepest desire had been to take apart the captain's head, piece by piece, to understand what this enigmatic man was truly thinking.

Ryukawa Chiba possessed the superpower of sensing emotions, but he couldn't grasp Urushibara Osamu's emotions. This man rarely showed emotional fluctuations, like a saint without desires, yet his methods and actions were more ruthless and brutal than anyone else's.

This contrast made Ryukawa Chiba unable to let go; otherwise, he wouldn't have stayed in the brigade for so many years.

On the phone, a hacker warned, "Captain, it's best not to go inside. This damn room is filled with explosive traps that will trigger the moment they detect any life form other than Ryukawa Chiba, turning everyone, even the entire underground tenth level, to ashes."

"Then we'll just have him come out himself," Urushibara Osamu said expressionlessly.

Hearing this, Robert held his still-dizzy head and placed his hand on the corridor wall, creating a door connecting to the cell.

Ryukawa Chiba was slightly taken aback and turned to see a door appearing on the transparent wall.

He stood from the chair, walked towards the door, and crossed through it, coming to the side of Urushibara Osamu and Robert.

"Welcome back... doctor," Robert said, placing a hand on Ryukawa Chiba's shoulder and greeted, "Haven't seen you for a while. Have you been performing emotional removal surgeries on others in the prison? Or have you learned to behave? Honestly, just to prevent you from eyeing my head, I've been wearing this mechanical helmet all along."

Saying this, Robert raised his hand and knocked on his mechanical head, making a sound like slapping a bucket.

"There wasn't much chance to do surgeries in prison," Ryukawa Chiba said as he removed his glasses, revealing deep-set eyes, "But now that I'm out, I should get active, or I'll get too rusty."

He casually tossed the glasses on the ground and turned back to look at the room he had stayed in for several days.

A few days ago, the warden had suddenly brought him here — the safest place in the entire prison, the hardest to access, so boring that one might want to bite their tongue and commit suicide from the monotony.

Ryukawa Chiba asked, "What's my number in the brigade now? You must be missing people to come looking for me."

"Number 5... A poor guy died in the Terrarium before, we don't even know how he died," Robert shrugged, a metallic sound emanating from beneath his mechanical head.

"Let's go, Robert, Ryukawa... The others are still waiting for us above," Urushibara Osamu calmly said with his hands in the pockets of his trench coat.

Robert raised his hand again to touch the corridor wall, creating a door leading to the surface.

"Whoa, things outside aren't ordinary, just don't pee your pants, Rober," the hacker's startling voice suddenly transmitted from the phone.

"What's this?" Ryukawa Chiba looked at the boy in overalls on the phone.

"A new team member. A 13-year-old prodigy, we all call him 'Hacker'," Robert explained.

"Hello, Hacker," Ryukawa Chiba greeted.

"Hello, Doctor, I've heard a lot about you," Hacker replied. "We have a noisy cat in the brigade, could you maybe give it a little surgery?"

"Careful, the young lady might have you neutered," Robert said, putting the phone away.

In the conversation between the three, Urushibara Osamu had already stepped through the Teleportation Gate on the wall. As they emerged from the underground tenth level of Hokkaido Prison, sunlight poured in, revealing a world in chaos.

Iron-grey buildings were riddled with holes, the ground was full of ravines, and scraps of paper and rocks were scattered everywhere.

Then, they suddenly saw a giant shark.

A massive dark blue shark, over three hundred meters long, opened its giant maw under the scorching sunlight, letting out a deafening roar, with a tsunami-like wave of black water behind it.

"Eternal Abyss Shark... How's it here?" Urushibara Osamu softly muttered.
