Chapter 265: Black Cocoon's Deal, Light-Eating Bee's Movements
9:00 a.m., August 6, Japan Standard Time, a corner of Tokyo.
Summer heat was intense, and most young girls on the long street carried umbrellas for shade.
Suddenly, a magnificent and dignified silver-white statue descended from the sky, landing right in front of the café.
She glanced around, then extended her right hand, clad in silver-white gauntlets, swiftly pushed open the glass door, and stepped into the café, putting down Xia Pingzhou and Ayase Origami from her shoulders.
Up to this point, the two plus the statue had finally escaped from the mountain near Tokyo Bay.
As for why they used the word "escape" when there was no enemy at the mountaintop, it was because Ayase Origami had accidentally stirred up a tornado with her endless manuscript on the peak.
The momentum of the whirlwind even affected Tokyo Bay, overturning the sea waters.
Anyone with keen insight who witnessed this would likely suspect it was the ability of a White Crow Travel Brigade member.
"How did you create such a commotion?" Xia Pingzhou said while glancing outside to confirm no one was watching, then casually pulled down the café's shutters, blocking out the sunlight. "Now everyone knows the brigade is back in Japan."
"Couldn't control it."
Ayase Origami remarked lightly, as if the wind she stirred over Tokyo Bay was nothing but a trivial breeze.
"Alright, at least it proves that the endless manuscript indeed greatly amplifies your abilities." Xia Pingzhou said, "The Japanese underworld was already sensitive to information about the White Crow Travel Brigade, and along with the recent Whale Terrarium incident, our situation is worsening. If discovered, it's best to move immediately; lingering here is not a wise choice."
"I'll get the luggage."
"No need, I'll have the Queen's Statue get it." Xia Pingzhou looked down at his phone, "The hacker has already prepared our travel plans. We'll first take the Shinkansen and then transfer in Hokkaido."
The Queen's Statue nodded, went up to the loft, packed Ayase Origami's books and clothes into the suitcase, and then activated "Nihilization," passing through the loft's floor like a waft of air and landing on the café's ground floor.
Xia Pingzhou took the suitcase, collected the Queen's Statue back into Celestial Driver, and then, with one hand holding the suitcase and the other holding Ayase Origami's hand, walked straight out of the café.
Soon after, they boarded the silver-white Shinkansen train. This train would directly reach Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station.
The engine roared to life. Amidst the deafening roar, the iron beast resembling a giant white serpent whipped up a wild wind, speeding northward.
Xia Pingzhou and Ayase Origami turned their heads to gaze out the window.
In the summer noon, the entire world was bathed in bright sunlight, the sea surface shimmering with waves, distant mountains lush green, and the sky colored blue and white.
The Tokyo Bay Rainbow Bridge in their view receded, gradually shrinking into a brilliantly lit horizontal beam.
Four hours later, the onboard announcement indicated the Shinkansen had arrived at the final stop in Hokkaido—Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station. Upon alighting, in front of the station, one could see the city mascot of Hokuto—Sushi Hokki Clam-kun.
To commemorate the opening of this Shinkansen, a Fist of the North Star themed bronze statue was also established inside the station.
Ayase Origami practiced using the phone's camera function, snapping away nonstop, while a little cat trinket on her phone wobbled.
The sunlight grew increasingly intense, cicadas chirped in chorus, and under the sultry heat, the street scene seemed to turn into a mirage.
And it was during this summer day, a boy held a girl's hand, busily rushing around wordlessly. The afternoon tranquility seemed only to be encompassed by the huge sound of cicadas enveloping the world.
Soon after, Xia Pingzhou and Ayase Origami transferred to the JR limited express train.
This train headed directly to Sapporo City in Hokkaido, which was their destination. The superpower user prison mentioned by the brigade leader was located in a corner of Sapporo City.
This prison break plan was not a reckless one, as the risk was minimal. Several members of the White Crow Travel Brigade already possessed near-Catastrophe Level strength.
In the swaying carriage, evening quietly descended. Xia Pingzhou turned to look out the window, the crimson sky gradually dimmed, and distant mountains were lit with wildfires, overlapping with the reflection of a kimono-clad girl on the window.
"Are you tired?" He retracted his gaze and, while reading The Dancing Girl of Izu, asked.
She shook her head and pieced together a silent message on the car window with paper pages: "With you, even rushing around is joyful."
Xia Pingzhou lifted his head slightly, glimpsed the words from the corner of his eye. But as soon as they appeared, they dispersed into fine paper fragments, reassembling into book pages returning to Ayase Origami's sleeve.
The setting sun completely sank below the horizon.
Night fell. The lights inside the train illuminated her gaze, quietly flipping through today's photos on her phone. Xia Pingzhou sat beside her reading, the world enveloped in silence.
The train traversed under the evening glow, rumbling toward somewhere unknown.
...
...
The other corner of the world.
While Ayase Origami and Xia Pingzhou were riding the JR express train to Hokkaido, Black Cocoon maintained its invisible form, flying over the skies of New York City, finally arriving at a secluded hotel.
This was a black hotel.
The reason it's called a black hotel is because you don't need an ID to stay here; you just need to pay a little extra, and nobody will investigate your background. Even if you're a minor, no one will call the police, as everyone follows the unwritten rules.
Just to be safe, Black Cocoon stole a New York street thug's ID using the restraint belt on the way here, then released a Restraint Incarnation to disguise as that thug.
The incarnation presented the ID at the front desk, then paid a stack of dollars to the staff.
After that, Black Cocoon maintained its invisible form, followed by the Restraint Incarnation, and entered the hotel room with a swipe card.
He casually shut the door, left the incarnation to stand in a corner as punishment, then removed the restraint belt draped over him and lay down on the bed.
Gu Wenyu glanced at the time on the wall. It was already nighttime in Japan, but local U.S. time was still 10 a.m. on August 6th, with a ten-hour time difference between Japan and the United States.
"I'm really exhausted... Ke Qirui's Train Demon is fast, but riding it makes me dizzy."
Gu Wenyu covered his forehead, remained motionless while lying on the bed to rest for a moment, then heard a knock on the door. He knew who was visiting, so he draped the restraint belt over himself again and went straight to open the door.
As the door opened, a white-haired blue-eyed teenager appeared before him. The teenager was wearing summer casual clothes and a thin jacket, with a small shark in his pocket, whose round head was sticking out.
"The big fluttering moth, we're here again!" Yaguba poked his head out, cursing.
Black Cocoon elbowed against the door frame with a pose reminiscent of a Western cowboy, "Thank you for responding to my invitation to come to the United States, Cezar, and useless Yaguba."
Cezar shook his head, "No issue, I planned to travel around the world; staying in China wasn't intended."
"How is Mr. Ghost Bell?" Black Cocoon asked casually.
Cezar said: "Mr. Mu Long will return to Li Jing after attending the funeral; he can take good care of Mr. Ghost Bell, so Yaguba and I don't have to stay there all the time."
"Exactly, it made Shark and Cezar seem like they were guarding a vacant cow; whoever chooses to watch that stupid cow can!" The little shark in the pocket snorted coldly.
"The term 'guarding a vacant cow' is misused, Yaguba," Cezar laughed.
"Alright, alright, since Mr. Ghost Bell is taken care of, I'm relieved," Black Cocoon wrapped his arms around himself, "So you've heard about the situation from this shark's mouth, haven't you?"
"Yes..." Cezar nodded, "Yaguba told me that Mr. Black Cocoon could help me find the movements of the Light-Eating Bees, is this true?"
The expression on the white-haired teenager's face was very serious. It seemed Cezar had a strong obsession with repaying his father's sins. He still believed his father shouldn't have driven the dangerous "Light-Eating Bees" tribe into the human world and then ignored it, leaving others to bear the consequences, which was unrighteous.
"Indeed... I will soon inquire about the Light-Eating Bees from my other collaborator," Black Cocoon asserted.
"Great, if there's news about the Light-Eating Bees, please inform me immediately," Cezar was overjoyed.
Having experienced the Terrarium incident as a precedent, he was confident in Black Cocoon's ability. Since Black Cocoon promised to help him find the Light-Eating Bees, it was bound to happen.
"Hear that!" The small shark raised its fin, pointing at Black Cocoon like a mobster, "Big fluttering moth, Shark and Cezar are going to eliminate the whole Light-Eating Bees family!"
"Don't use such crude words, Yaguba; we're not killing the whole family, but exterminating their entire tribe," Cezar smiled, lifting a finger to poke the small shark's head.
Black Cocoon silently watched the human and shark, then slowly began to speak:
"Here's the thing... in return for providing clues, I may periodically need this shark as my transportation, letting it wander the world with me. Do you have any objections?"
"I have no objections," Cezar said.
"Shark has objections," Yaguba said.
"Perfect, then we have reached an agreement." Black Cocoon stated, tapping his skull, "I'm suffering a headache due to the rush, so I need some rest; let's discuss the related matters in the evening?"
"Alright, Mr. Black Cocoon, take care of yourself; we'll rest in the next room," Cezar said, leading the little shark in the pocket to another nearby hotel room.
Black Cocoon silently watched him leave, then closed the door, removed the restraint belt from his body, lay on the bed, and calmly watched the time pass on the wall.
Around noon, he finally picked up his phone to message Gu Qiye, informing his brother that he'd arrived in New York, then closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
It wasn't until after 4 p.m. that Gu Qiye replied to his message.
The phone vibrated, waking Gu Wenyu; he picked it up and looked.
[Gu Qiye: Do you know about the Light-Eating Bees?]
