Chapter 262: Diary, Prison Break Plan

The sky gradually brightened, the first ray of sunlight pierced the hazy boundary between sea and sky, illuminating the dim sea surface. Then the sun rose, morning light passed through the beach and the mountain gorge, burning away layers of mist between the mountains, finally falling upon the cemetery.

Ke Qirui put away the smoking pipe. She was pushed by Su Zimai to leave the cemetery, and could only smile helplessly, walking towards the direction of the abandoned train station.

Black Cocoon followed beside her, wrapping himself in transparent restraint belts in advance. They conversed in low voices, but from afar it seemed as if Ke Qirui was talking to herself.

"Then let's go first." Ke Qirui teased, "Speaking of which, can't you stop angering Maimai every time? She probably needs to sulk for quite a while again."

"Isn't this better? It's more comforting than constantly drowning in the grief of losing loved ones." Black Cocoon said, looking up at the gray sky, raindrops splattering on his face, "Speaking of which... isn't it raining up there? Shouldn't the Lake Hunting guy transform into a sleeping pig?"

"If Zhou Jiuya finds out you're talking about him like this behind his back, all I can say is you'd better take care of yourself." Ke Qirui smiled.

She turned her head, looking at Zhou Jiuya from afar, "It's just a light rain, so he can still manage, but a heavy rain is coming soon, which is why I let them leave the cemetery early, lest they encounter the Salvation Society while Zhou Jiuya is asleep, then even Lin Xingshi alone would find it hard to deal with."

After speaking, Ke Qirui raised the brim of her hat slightly, looking at the rain clouds drifting from the distant sky.

"Does he have to fall asleep every time it rains?" Black Cocoon asked.

"What else?" Ke Qirui smirked, "If he didn't fall asleep at the Tokyo Auction, there wouldn't have been anything for the White Crow Travel Brigade."

"If he didn't fall asleep, the Diaper Demon wouldn't have been born into the world." Black Cocoon nodded, "You're right, this might just be fate."

"I recorded it, I'll let Xiaomai listen to it when we get back." Ke Qirui took out a recording pen from the pocket of her trench coat.

"Please make sure she hears it." Black Cocoon paused, "I didn't realize you carried a recording pen while talking to me?"

"What can I do when Mr. Black Cocoon is so all-knowing? I'm afraid to miss any important information from you." Ke Qirui said, "Especially since you always like to hide important information in ambiguous statements, I have to prevent unforeseen circumstances."

"So, do you like women or men?"

"I like Sherlock Holmes."

"Then you can be a doctor, not play detective games here."

"Actually, I thought about being a doctor, but the chairperson said I'm suited for being an Exorcist."

"It's normal, everyone is constrained by circumstances."

As they chatted, the two entered the empty abandoned train station. The Train Demon broke through the darkness, racing out of the tunnel, with howling winds blowing away the morning mist. Soon, Black Cocoon boarded the train, sat down, and began reading. He was reading Su Ying's diary.

The diary recorded intermittently from when she was ten until she was nineteen, documenting a series of events Su Ying experienced. It included the awakening of the Celestial Driver, practicing with her father after school every day.

It mentioned that the Su Family were executors for Lake Hunting, responsible for some unsavory tasks to ensure no internal conflicts arose among the four major families of Lake Hunting. In short, clearing internal strife, while external defense was left to Lake Hunting itself.

Su Wei was the head of the Su Family. He had only one child, Su Ying, so he was very strict with her. From a young age, Su Wei did not allow Su Ying to attend school, so she could wholly devote herself to the world of the Exorcist, focusing on her practice.

The father and daughter roamed various countries with the previous generation of Lake Hunting, hunting three of the 'Seven Sins' Western demons, namely 'Lust,' 'Greed,' and 'Pride.'

Under Su Wei's urging, Su Ying became a second-tier Exorcist at the age of sixteen, but she soon grew weary of the Exorcist world. Eventually, unable to bear it, she ran away from home and found herself dazing in a human school.

It was then she met a tall guy with a wooden personality, yet who always loved fighting with people.

That tall guy was Gu Zhuo Case. That time, Gu Zhuo Case was beaten down by others, and Su Ying dashed in with a flying kick. Her physical strength far exceeded ordinary people, beating them all down in a few moves, then like a heroine, she clapped her hands, pulled that stupid big guy up, and ran with him.

During Su Ying's days of running away from home, Gu Zhuo Case was also skipping school. He discovered this girl seemed to be a time traveler from the last century, completely clueless about modern knowledge. He spent a few days with Su Ying in an internet café.

The two of them ate instant noodles while playing old-fashioned games from the last century on the computer, like QQ Racing and CrossFire. Gu Zhuo Case, with his wooden personality, needed Su Ying to shake his shoulders every time before he'd teach her how to play. Su Ying, annoyed, gave him the nickname "Wood Man." She had never played computer games in her life, getting so engrossed in the internet café that she accidentally broke the mouse with her strength, leaving Gu Zhuo Case stunned, unable to afford compensation, grabbing Su Ying's hand and running away.

Eventually, with nowhere to go, they hid in a dormitory-style high school, after which every time Gu Zhuo Case attended class, Su Ying would secretly watch him from outside the window.

Later, Gu Zhuo Case got into college, and Su Ying went home to negotiate with Su Wei, saying if she wasn't allowed to attend college, she'd run away from home again. Su Wei doted on his daughter, thus arranged for her to have a student identity.

The diary ends here, followed by rambling text. It's evident that Su Ying is a lively person, and her personality is like fire and ice compared to Gu Zhuo Case, the two were brought together purely by fate.

Ji Minghuan felt he had no need to continue reading, as he had no emotional connection to Gu Wenyu's mother. Since it was hard to digest, he stored Gu Wenyu's memories on the library's bookshelves.

But when browsing the memories, he skimmed over parts about Su Ying, so for a person who he neither met nor properly remembered, it's natural for him to feel no emotions.

At least we now know the Su Family's positioning within Lake Hunting, and it's clear that Su Wei is definitely not an easy person to deal with. Even if an ordinary exorcist reaches Tier 3, they would only have Quasi-Catastrophe Level strength. For example, Lin Zhengquan; only a few gifted exorcists after reaching Tier 3 can achieve the Catastrophe Level threshold.

Su Wei has most likely already surpassed this threshold. If he is willing to lend a hand, he can certainly be a significant asset to the Gu Family members against the Rainbow Wings.

Ji Minghuan thought he should hand this diary over to his older brother, or to Su Zimai, as they'd definitely appreciate knowing more about their mother.

Or he could give it to their father; Su Ying's affection for their father is evident between the lines. Perhaps this old man would sit in silence for an entire day after going through the diary.

"How is Xia Pingzhou doing?" Ke Qirui suddenly asked. She was sitting across from the Black Cocoon.

"If we're talking about Mr. Chess Player, he should be about to succeed." Black Cocoon closed the diary.

"Succeed?"

"Before September arrives, he will kill Jack the Ripper and then leave the White Crow Travel Brigade."

"I see." Ke Qirui mused, "Does he need help?"

"With the current White Crow Travel Brigade, unless Miss Ke advances to Tier 3, it's unlikely you could intervene." Black Cocoon looked directly at Ke Qirui.

Ke Qirui pondered: "What did the brigade get from the Terrarium?"

The only explanation she could think of was that the White Crow Travel Brigade obtained something during their raid on the Whale Terrarium that could enhance their overall combat strength, such as a Generational-level Anecdote Fragment.

"That's right." Black Cocoon said, "You could think of it that way."

"Given the complex situation on the brigade's side, will Xia Pingzhou be able to ensure his safe retreat after killing Jack the Ripper?" Ke Qirui asked.

"With me around, how could he not escape?" Black Cocoon scratched his chin, "Of course... I can't guarantee everything, as generally speaking, unexpected situations might occur. After all, the current combat power of the White Crow Travel Brigade is nothing to scoff at, but I will do my utmost to prevent that from happening."

"Anyway, please tell him that I'm available to help whenever he needs me." Ke Qirui said, "Doesn't the brigade hold grudges against Zhou Jiuya? I can bring Zhou Jiuya along to assist him when the time comes."

"I suggest you first consider your own safety, Miss Ke." Black Cocoon said softly, "I will personally handle things on Xia Pingzhou's end."

.....

.....

Tokyo, Japan, in the attic of a café.

Xia Pingzhou awoke from the bedding on the floor, glanced at the soundly sleeping Ayase Origami, then at the window plastered with densely packed papers, through which not a single ray of sunlight could penetrate, rendering the attic dark, echoed by the creaking sound of the floor.

He yawned, reached for his phone beside his pillow.

Upon checking his phone, at the top was a message from the hacker.

[Hacker: The captain and Jack will arrive in Tokyo tomorrow, and their target coming to Tokyo this time is already clear.]

[Xia Pingzhou: What exactly do they want to do?]

[Hacker: Breaking out of prison.]

[Xia Pingzhou: Breaking out of prison? Who are you trying to rescue?]

[Hacker: The captain said it's an old friend of his, who is currently held in a superpower user prison in Hokkaido. That prison holds dangerous criminals from all over the world, with security levels comparable to a military base, but it's no big deal for us.]

[Xia Pingzhou: Will the person we rescue become a new member of the brigade?]

[Hacker: Most likely, otherwise, it wouldn't explain why the captain would risk so much to rescue him.]

[Xia Pingzhou: After doing this, will we get noticed by the Rainbow Wings?]

[Hacker: I think it's possible, or rather, the previous destruction of the Whale Terrarium was already enough to attract the attention of the United Nations, let alone this prison break. It's only natural that they would send the Rainbow Wings to catch us.]

[Hacker: However... we're not without the ability to counter the Rainbow Wings now, considering our brigade has acquired so many monsters.]
