Chapter 189: The Choices of Three, Standoff at the Bar
Inside the underground bar.
White paper butterflies fluttered in mid-air, fanning their wings in unison. The frequency of their beating wings created a resonance, and the "swish swish" sound engulfed all around.
Ji Minghuan hung his head low, tightly holding Kong Youling in his arms, his gaze fixed on Ayase Origami and Jack the Ripper.
At that moment, Kong Youling, like a little cat, broke free of his embrace, agilely and lightly slipping out of his arms. A strand of her white hair lightly brushed against his cheek and then slid past his arm.
Ji Minghuan was taken aback for a moment, but quickly reacted, raising his head to shout:
"Kong Youling!"
The white-haired girl raised her arms, shielding in front of him.
She raised her eyelids with a tremble, her light-sensitive red eyes glowing brightly in the dark, staring straight into Origami's eyes.
Ji Minghuan was pale as he half-knelt on the ground, looking through the swirling paper curtain at the white-haired girl's back, then looked up to meet the gaze of the kimono-wearing girl.
Jack the Ripper remained unmoved.
She held a dark red scythe against his neck, and with her other hand, she quickly pulled out a small knife, pressing it against Kong Youling's back, piercing a corner of her hospital gown. The blade was only a centimeter away from her skin.
"Don't push your luck," Jack the Ripper lowered her voice, "I usually don't kill children, unless I have to."
"Jack... let him go." After a moment of silence, the kimono girl suddenly spoke.
"Why?" Jack the Ripper asked.
"We'll take them away first."
Jack the Ripper was silent for a moment: "Miss, first you adopted a cat, now you want to take in two kids?"
"I have questions to ask him," Ayase Origami said.
For some reason, the kimono girl's dark eyes remained fixed on Ji Minghuan's face.
Jack the Ripper shook her head: "No way, these two kids look very strange... if we let them go, something might happen. Don't command me based on your inexplicable judgment, this isn't the first time."
Ayase Origami remained silent.
At this moment, in another corner of the underground bar, Black Cocoon used a transparent restraint belt to wrap himself into a cocoon, hanging quietly upside down from the ceiling.
The restraint belt, inactive, shielded him from all sensory input, permeating his senses like a mosquito net, covering the dim underground bar, allowing him to see all details, even a small insect crawling across the entrance aisle.
For a moment, Black Cocoon seemed to be observing the bar from an alternate space.
Beneath his mask, his pupils dilated as if he were a beast out of control. Silently, the cold restraint belt washed over him like a tide, tightly wrapping every inch of his skin, almost suffocating him inside the cocoon.
The boy in the hospital gown hung his head, his eyes obscured by his hair, his thoughts tangled and chaotic.
"I need to have Black Cocoon take her away... just take her away now... no, I can't do this, the Salvation Society people are hiding nearby observing. I mustn't expose Black Cocoon at this time, or it will play right into their hands."
"Dinosaurs? No, I can't let my sister die there, I have to use the Queen's Statue to save her... Cezar has awakened, ignore him for now, let him and Li Qingping continue their training... Save the King or save the main body, no time left... The Shadow Demon has already been used, now I must use the Cloning Demon... Kong Youling... Kong Youling, Sun Changkong, Great Sage Equal to Heaven?"
"Sun Changkong seems to have gone berserk, he will die... the people from the Ghost Train Corps will all die, they're already as good as dead... Kong Youling, I need to take Kong Youling... I can't let her stay here... no, can't expose here... if she gets hurt, I'll slaughter everyone here."
Just then, sheets of movie screens suddenly appeared in the bar.
Ayase Origami and Jack the Ripper were taken aback but quickly reacted at the same time.
The kimono girl turned her head, raising her sleeve, a paper butterfly flew forward, in a flash surrounding a figure that had just emerged from the screen—it was Su Zimai.
Su Zimai looked up and was immediately stunned, the paper butterflies descended upon her like a swirling snowstorm, surrounding her as if ready to devour her at any moment.
She was dumbfounded for a long time, then slowly reacted, furrowing her brow tightly. Having witnessed the destructive power of these paper butterflies at the auction, she dared not act rashly.
Jack the Ripper looked at Su Zimai enveloped by paper butterflies, then turned her head to look at Ke Qirui.
"I advise you not to move," she said, "otherwise... my partner will split this little girl in two."
Just then, an icy voice rang out from another corner of the bar.
"Let her go, I have your person here..." Xu Sanyan said, with a sullen expression, raising a dark red umbrella, pointing its tip at the back of Xia Pingzhou's head.
Ayase Origami followed the voice, her hollow and cold gaze sweeping around, spotting Xia Pingzhou unharmed.
She was slightly startled.
In silence, the kimono girl widened her eyes to look at him, her pale lips parting slightly but not speaking.
"Oh, a newcomer... I thought you were dead," Jack the Ripper mocked Xia Pingzhou.
"Not dead yet, but soon," Xia Pingzhou said expressionlessly, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender.
Before this, his life-saving tricks had either been used on the red traffic light or Mario, meaning if Xu Sanyan pulled the trigger now, he'd be done for.
No one could save him from such a close-range shot.
Jack the Ripper watched this unfold, keeping her scythe steady against Ji Minghuan's neck, while her other hand pressed a small knife firmly into Kong Youling's back.
From her personal intuition, these two kids were more dangerous than all four members of the Ghost Train Corps combined. Even if the train group appeared, it wasn't worth letting these two kids go.
"Don't move..." Jack the Ripper warned Ji Minghuan, "don't think you can escape amid the chaos."
The boy in the hospital gown raised his hollow eyes, looking at Kong Youling's back, then slowly raised his head to look into Jack the Ripper's eyes.
He declared, word by word, "If you dare hurt Kong Youling, all of you will die."
The gaze of the girl in the kimono was cold as she looked at Xia Pingzhou's calm face, then turned her head to look at Xu Sanyan's face.
She lowered her voice: "If Xia Pingzhou gets hurt, I'll... kill you all."
Seeing the chaos of the situation, even Ke Qirui couldn't help but raise her eyebrows for a moment.
She quietly studied Ayase Origami from under the brim of her hat, remained silent for a while, and then spoke in a deep voice:
"Xu Sanyan, don't shoot."
"Tsk..." Xu Sanyan's face twitched slightly.
He didn't expect that after escaping from the game world's three mysterious monsters, he would be surrounded by two monsters from the brigade upon returning to the Real World. In hindsight, he should have listened to that black worm and not gotten involved in this mess.
"Give him... back to me," the girl in the kimono said, her voice filled with frost.
"Calm down, a conflict here does neither of us any good. We can opt to exchange hostages."
Ke Qirui spoke slowly, glancing at Jack the Ripper and the two children in hospital gowns with the corner of her eye.
She thought: I don't know what other abilities the two children in hospital gowns have left, luckily, the people from the brigade have come to subdue them. So even if the three monsters from the game world emerge, Xia Pingzhou should still have room to negotiate with them.
Thinking of this, she continued, "I'll return Xia Pingzhou to you, and you return this girl to us. Is that acceptable?"
Ayase Origami looked up at her, then silently walked to the center of the paper butterflies, wrapped her arm around Su Zimai's throat, and whispered in her ear:
"Walk forward..."
Hearing this, Su Zimai took a deep breath and moved, following Ayase Origami's steps forward.
On the other side, Xu Sanyan similarly pressed the tip of his umbrella to Xia Pingzhou's back, forcing him to walk forward.
Su Zimai and Xia Pingzhou drew closer.
In a dead silence, the two secretly met each other's eyes, then quickly looked away.
"First, take away those paper butterflies," Ke Qirui paused, "or I'll have my people open fire."
The girl in the kimono glanced at her indifferently, then chose to comply.
The paper butterflies flapped their wings with a "swish-swish" sound, flying away from Su Zimai's side, but Ayase Origami still held her throat with her arm, ready to break it at any time.
"Sanyan, move the muzzle away," Ke Qirui said softly, lowering her hat brim.
Xu Sanyan hesitated for a moment, then eventually complied, withdrawing the umbrella tip from Xia Pingzhou's back.
Seeing this, Ayase Origami slowly released her arm from Su Zimai's throat as well.
At this moment, aside from Xia Pingzhou and Su Zimai, everyone else present remained still.
They all understood that making a move now would mean a deadly fight was about to occur, so they adhered to the same rules.
Under all the gazes, the two walked forward, passed by each other, and returned to their respective sides.
In the next moment, screens of film suddenly formed inside the tavern. Ke Qirui wrapped her arm around Su Zimai's shoulders, placed the hat from her head onto her, and then used the Movie Demon to take away all members of the Ghost Train Corps, along with the red traffic light on the ground.
Jack the Ripper had no intention of attacking them because that would mean letting her guard down against the two children in hospital gowns.
She still believed these two children were more dangerous than the members of the train group, even if it meant letting the others go, the two children could not be released.
As for Ayase Origami, now that Xia Pingzhou had returned, she had no intention of pursuing them further. She merely grabbed his sleeve, lowered and then raised her eyes to check if he was injured.
"I'm sorry for worrying you," Xia Pingzhou said in a low voice.
The girl in the kimono didn't speak, when she looked up at him, her hollow eyes seemed to hide a trace of anger.
She slightly opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, wanting to express her anger, but in the end, she merely furrowed her brows gently, and then quickly relaxed them, showing a look of bewilderment.
"You're okay, that's all that matters," she whispered.
The paper butterflies fluttered down from above, turning into fragments of pure white that merged into the filthy blood.
The puppet-like pale girl stood motionless in the chaos.
She gently leaned her head on Xia Pingzhou's shoulder, closed her eyes, and remained silent for a second.
As the black and white film screens faded away, the entire underground bar suddenly felt empty and less cramped.
At this moment, only five people were left in the bar: Ji Minghuan, Kong Youling, Xia Pingzhou, Ayase Origami, and Jack the Ripper.
Jack the Ripper tilted her head, looking at Xia Pingzhou expressionlessly: "Make sure to explain clearly when we get back."
"I think you should blame the hacker, but more importantly..." saying this, Xia Pingzhou turned his head to look at Ji Minghuan, "the matter hasn't been resolved."
Ji Minghuan lifted her eyes from beneath her bangs, coldly watching him, their eyes meeting.
"What do you mean?" Jack the Ripper asked.
Xia Pingzhou shifted his gaze away from Ji Minghuan's face and expressionlessly explained, "It's too late to leave now. Absolutely don't let those two escape, they're the leverage for negotiation."
As his words fell, a game notification window suddenly appeared mid-air.
["Administrator" Mario has forcibly logged out of the game, the game scene "Jurassic World" has ended.]
Ayase Origami and Jack the Ripper exchanged a glance and grew wary.
Xia Pingzhou slowly turned his head, his peripheral vision casting a glance at the open pixelated door behind him, where a cloud of white fog drifted out, carrying three children in hospital gowns atop it.
