My Angel Girl

Chapter 10: The Game Of Truth Or Dare

The city was cloaked in a veil of quiet stillness as the clock struck 3 a.m., its streets bathed in the pale glow of streetlights. High above the world, Kikidori lounged on their usual rooftop, his back resting against a vent as he twirled a stray strand of his dark hair between his fingers. His crimson eyes, faintly glowing in the dark, flicked toward the faint shimmer of golden light that marked Ere'ana's arrival.

"You're late, halo girl," he said, his tone casual but laced with mock annoyance.

Ere'ana rolled her eyes as she landed gracefully beside him, her wings folding neatly behind her. Her halo cast a soft, calming glow over the grimy rooftop, the perfect counterbalance to Kikidori's shadowy aura.

"I'm not late," she replied, settling down next to him. "You're just early."

"Early?" Kikidori raised an eyebrow. "I've been here for ten minutes. That's called punctuality, Ere."

She glanced at him sharply. "Don't call me that."

He smirked, leaning closer. "Why not? It's cute. Like you."

Ere'ana's cheeks flushed a faint pink, and she turned her gaze to the city below, ignoring him. "You're insufferable."

"And yet, you keep showing up," Kikidori teased, leaning back against the vent with a smug grin.

Ere'ana refused to rise to the bait, instead focusing on the steady hum of the city beneath them. But despite her best efforts, her angelic senses betrayed her. She could see the faint, rhythmic thrum of his heartbeat through her divine perception.

120 beats per minute.

Her blush deepened as realization struck her. He liked her. The very thought sent a wave of warmth flooding through her, though she quickly pushed it aside. She wasn't going to let herself get distracted by something so… ridiculous.

Kikidori, oblivious to her inner turmoil, let out a long sigh. "I'm bored."

"Yeah," Ere'ana replied absently, still trying to calm her racing thoughts.

"Let's play a game," Kikidori said suddenly, sitting up.

Ere'ana gave him a skeptical look. "A game?"

"Yeah," he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Truth or dare."

Her eyes widened in alarm. "Absolutely not."

"Why not?" Kikidori asked, tilting his head.

"Because," she said, her tone firm, "adultery is a sin."

Kikidori stared at her for a moment before bursting into laughter, the sound echoing across the rooftop. "Adultery? Really? Who said anything about that, dumbass?"

Ere'ana's face flushed with embarrassment. "Well, isn't that what humans use it for?"

"Humans use everything for weird crap," Kikidori said, still chuckling. "But no, I wasn't suggesting that. Just a normal game of truth or dare. You know, for fun."

Ere'ana hesitated, her brow furrowing. "I don't know…"

"Oh, come on," Kikidori said, leaning toward her with a playful grin. "Live a little. You might actually enjoy it."

After a long moment of deliberation, Ere'ana let out a resigned sigh. "Fine. But nothing inappropriate."

"Scout's honor," Kikidori said, raising his hand mockingly.

She gave him a dubious look but nodded. "Alright. Who goes first?"

"I'll start," Kikidori said, his grin widening. "Truth or dare?"

Ere'ana frowned, thinking it over. "Truth."

"Coward," Kikidori teased before leaning forward slightly. "Alright, here's your question: What's the most rebellious thing you've ever done?"

Ere'ana blinked, caught off guard. "Rebellious?"

"Yeah," Kikidori said, his grin turning wicked. "You know, breaking the rules, defying authority. That sort of thing."

She thought for a moment, her expression thoughtful. "Well… I suppose it was when I was a guardian angel for a family on Earth. I intervened in their lives more than I was supposed to. I made sure the daughter got into her dream college, even though it wasn't part of the divine plan."

Kikidori raised an eyebrow. "That's it? That's your big rebellious moment?"

"It was a big deal for me," Ere'ana said defensively.

He rolled his eyes. "Figures. Alright, your turn."

Ere'ana hesitated, unsure how to proceed. "Truth or dare?"

"Dare," Kikidori said immediately, his grin daring her to challenge him.

She frowned, thinking hard. "I dare you… to go a whole day without cussing."

Kikidori's eyes widened in horror. "What? No way."

"You picked dare," she said, her tone firm. "You have to do it."

He groaned, slumping back against the vent. "You're the worst, halo girl."

Ere'ana smiled faintly, satisfied. "Your turn."

Kikidori sat up, a wicked gleam in his eye. "Alright, truth or dare?"

"Truth," she said again, playing it safe.

"Boring," Kikidori muttered before leaning closer, his crimson eyes locking onto hers. "Alright, here's one: If you could break any rule just once without consequences, what would it be?"

Ere'ana's cheeks flushed slightly as she considered the question. "I… I don't think I'd want to break any rules. Rules exist for a reason."

"That's a cop-out answer," Kikidori said, shaking his head. "Come on, there's gotta be something."

She hesitated, her gaze dropping to her lap. "Well… maybe I'd want to experience what it's like to truly live as a human. To feel what they feel without the restrictions of being an angel."

Kikidori's smirk softened into something almost resembling a genuine smile. "That's actually kinda deep, halo girl."

Ere'ana looked away, flustered. "Your turn."

The game continued, the two of them trading questions and dares, their banter growing increasingly relaxed and playful. Despite their vastly different natures, they found themselves enjoying each other's company more than they cared to admit.

As the night wore on, Ere'ana found herself laughing at Kikidori's sarcastic remarks, and Kikidori felt a strange warmth in his chest every time she smiled. For a brief moment, it felt as though the chasm between heaven and hell had disappeared, leaving only the two of them on that rooftop.

By the time they finally called it a night, the first rays of dawn were beginning to creep over the horizon. Kikidori stood, stretching lazily as Ere'ana prepared to return to heaven.

"Same time tomorrow?" he asked casually.

Ere'ana hesitated, her gaze lingering on him for a moment before she nodded. "Same time."

With that, she spread her wings and took off into the sky, her glowing form disappearing into the light of the rising sun. Kikidori watched her go, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"See you tomorrow, halo girl," he muttered before disappearing into the shadows.
