Chapter 23 Past Maitreya Sutra_1
HISS! Is this truly the Lord of Hongmeng?
Prince Yu Yang Qian woke with a start, his eyes opening blankly. His back was already soaked with cold sweat, yet he paid it no heed.
He instinctively pinched himself hard, felt the pain, and his mouth twitched a few times, his expression filled with shock.
The Lord of Hongmeng, the most exalted Immortal God.
Almighty and supreme.
Most divine and most holy.
Countless gods and demons bow in worship, and the Infinite Universe spirals around.
Boundless light.
Boundless life.
Inconceivable.
Unfathomable.
When he saw that towering figure, the unrivaled pressure and the essence of the Dao were definitely not something that could be explained by illusions. The Lord of Hongmeng was undoubtedly a great existence beyond imagination.
With such a terrifying existence assisting him, what was Emperor Qian, Yang Pan?
At this thought, Yang Qian began to feel an indistinct excitement. He looked at Hong Yi and said with a trembling voice, "Brother Hong, are you saying the Lord of Hongmeng will come to help me?"
At this moment, Yang Qian's address had changed, no longer using "this prince," but "I."
"With My Lord's existence, who can create infinite worlds with a breath, does the Prince think he is worthy of My Lord's assistance?"
Hong Yi's words made Yang Qian startle. Hadn't it been said that the Lord of Hongmeng would assist him?
However, Hong Yi's words weren't wrong. What sort of existence was the Lord of Hongmeng, and how could he possibly assist in a struggle for the throne?
Yang Qian asked in confusion, "Then what do you mean, Brother Hong?"
"My Lord naturally cannot aid you, but I can request a God's kingdom hero or warrior under My Lord's command to descend and assist," Hong Yi said.
"I see."
Yang Qian suddenly understood. This made sense.
If Hong Yi said the Lord of Hongmeng would help him, he wouldn't believe it.
Such a Power wouldn't deign to notice him.
He simply wasn't worthy enough.
Even his father, Emperor Yang Pan, wasn't qualified.
But requesting a powerful subordinate of the Lord of Hongmeng to assist—that was plausible.
"What does Brother Hong need me to do?" Yang Qian asked somewhat apprehensively.
Hong Yi had come to see him late at night and had even spoken of assisting him in the fight for the throne. Yang Qian didn't believe that Hong Yi was simply being charitable and doing good deeds.
"I need the Prince, after ascending the throne, to lead the nation in worshiping My Lord, and then to offer national sacrificial rites to My Lord."
Hong Yi's words caused Yang Qian's expression to change slightly. He had already experienced the Lord of Hongmeng's mighty power. Just praying had brought divine grace.
Even with his cultivation level, he could clearly feel his strength growing.
No one could resist this temptation.
It was foreseeable that once news of the Lord of Hongmeng spread, everyone under heaven would soon become followers of the Lord of Hongmeng.
And as the Messenger of the Lord of Hongmeng, Hong Yi's status and position would likely surpass his in an instant.
He, as the Emperor, would probably have to behave according to the other party's disposition.
However, the thought of the terrifying Lord of Hongmeng, and that Hong Yi could request powerful individuals from God's kingdom to descend and assist, made him instantly abandon any thoughts of killing or reporting Hong Yi.
He knew. He had no choice. If he was unwilling, Hong Yi could support someone else. Even with the Lord of Hongmeng's generosity, Hong Yi could quickly gather countless followers without relying on him. Ultimately, it wouldn't be a problem for Hong Yi to ascend the throne himself.
"My Lord is merciful and majestic! It is my honor to serve My Lord!"
Knowing he had no choice, Yang Qian quickly declared his determination.
Now he had no other option but to follow Hong Yi down this path. Therefore, he knew he must cling tightly to the Lord of Hongmeng's coattails.
"In the future, Prince, you will not regret the decision made today!"
Hong Yi smiled faintly, his wisdom allowing him to naturally guess Yang Qian's thoughts.
He said, "To pray is to receive Divine Grace. My Lord's generosity is evident. As long as the Prince devotes himself to serving My Lord, on the day of the offering, as My Lord manifests his sanctity, there will surely be abundant rewards! Even becoming a Sun God or Cracking the Void is not impossible!"
"Sun God... Cracking the Void..."
Yang Qian's heart trembled. The Sun God World's path of cultivation was divided into the Martial Path and the Immortal Path. The Martial Path led to Cracking the Void, and the Immortal Path culminated in becoming a Sun God.
Whether it was Cracking the Void or becoming a Sun God, both were the lifelong pursuit of countless cultivators.
Yang Qian was no exception.
"I am willing to die for My Lord." As a prince, Yang Qian was well-practiced in demonstrating his loyalty.
"Rest assured, Prince, with the aid of God's kingdom Heroic Warriors, no matter what cards Emperor Qian, Yang Pan, and Hong Xuanji hold, there will be no unforeseen circumstances!"
Hong Yi's eyes were filled with confidence, and then he said, "Prince, you can spread the "Meditation Method" to increase the strength of your men."
"Mhm!" Yang Qian nodded, having already witnessed the formidable power of the Meditation Method. As long as his men prayed once, the strength of his forces would increase by at least fifty percent.
Not to mention the "Meditation Method" was capable of continuous development.
"Divine Envoy, when shall we take action?" Yang Qian asked.
"The sooner the better. Let's say three days from now."
"What? Three days?"
Yang Qian was shocked. This was tantamount to rebellion.
Three days seemed far too hasty, didn't it?
"In the face of absolute power, everything else is inconsequential. Three days should be enough time for Prince to gather some trusted subordinates, right?"
Hong Yi smiled faintly, his expression full of confidence.
"Very well then!"
Yang Qian thought it over. With the support of powerful individuals from God's kingdom, all dissent could be suppressed.
Three days was tight, but it would suffice.
Having discussed their plans, Yang Qian immediately sprang into action, summoning his confidants, arranging manpower, and deploying his forces.
Hong Yi, Bai Ziyue, and Yuan Fei then took residence in the prince's mansion.
「Inside the room.」
Hong Yi took out the "Martial Scripture" he had obtained from the Fox Clan Library and threw it into a brazier.
The flames roared, and as the ashes of the burnt "Martial Scripture" settled, a page tinged with a dark golden hue suddenly appeared.
It was filled with dense scripture and diagrams that seemed to be made of gold leaf, yet were not touched by the fire.
"One of the Great Zen Temple's anchoring cultivation techniques, the Maitreya Sutra of the Past."
Hong Yi's eyes brightened, without a hint of surprise.
He reached for the piece of paper in the brazier. It felt as soft and smooth as silk to the touch. He unfolded it in front of him; it was a square sheet, three feet in length and breadth, like a large painting.
The script on it was minuscule, tiny yet exceptionally clear, as if carved with a knife, without a trace of blurriness.
Moreover, the characters possessed a penetrating power. It made one feel as if these tiny characters could become animated and take flight, as though the words themselves had come to life.
"Excellent calligraphy!" Hong Yi exclaimed admiringly.
In the center of the scripture was a golden Buddha, seated in the void, with countless suns, moons, and stars revolving around it, bestowing their radiance upon this golden Buddha.
This golden Buddha had its eyes slightly closed, sat in the lotus position with hands in a mudra, and exuded a serene demeanor. Quite different from the solemnity of the statues commonly seen in temples, it radiated a familiar and benevolent aura.
Indeed, Hong Yi even felt that this Buddha was his own origin from lives thousands of generations past.
This is truly a Buddha statue, in attitude and temperament, resonating with people, capturing the essence of attaining enlightenment oneself.
Hong Yi silently nodded to himself.
Buddhist doctrine teaches the equality of all beings and that everyone can achieve enlightenment.
