Chapter 3: The One with A New Job
The bustling noise of the Adventurer's Guild faded into the background as I followed the instructions on the scroll. The scroll detailed a meeting with a man named Philip, who was looking for a teacher for his daughter, Eris. It seemed straightforward enough, but given my current state, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease.
The city of Roa was vibrant and alive, but I had little time to explore. My thoughts were consumed by the strange new powers I had gained and the reality of inhabiting Rudeus' body.
I made my way through the city's winding streets until I reached a well-to-do neighborhood. The houses here were larger and more elegant, with manicured gardens and well-tended lawns. The house I was directed to was no exception—grand and imposing with a neatly trimmed hedge surrounding it.
A servant greeted me at the door and led me inside. The interior of the mansion was as opulent as the exterior, with rich woodwork, ornate tapestries, and a general air of affluence. The servant guided me to a study where a man with a distinguished appearance awaited me.
Philip was a tall, well-built man in his late forties, with a neatly trimmed beard and a sharp, calculating gaze. He was seated behind a large mahogany desk, surrounded by stacks of paperwork and a few well-maintained plants. His presence commanded respect, and his sharp eyes assessed me as I entered the room.
"Ah, Rudeus Greyrat, I presume?" he said, his voice rich with authority.
I nodded, trying to project confidence despite my nervousness. "Yes, sir. I'm Rudeus. I received your letter regarding the position of tutor for your daughter."
Philip's expression softened slightly, though he maintained an air of formality. "Please, have a seat."
I took a seat across from him, my heart pounding slightly. Philip's gaze was steady, and I could tell he was evaluating me closely.
"I've heard good things about you," Philip began, looking me over with a discerning eye. "Your reputation as a mage precedes you. But before we proceed, I'd like to hear more about what you can offer."
I cleared my throat and began to explain my qualifications. "As a Saint-class mage, I have extensive experience with magic and teaching. I have a deep understanding of various magical disciplines and a solid background in both practical and theoretical aspects of magic. My goal is to provide Eris with a comprehensive education that will help her reach her full potential."
Philip listened intently, nodding occasionally. When I finished, he leaned back in his chair and studied me for a moment.
"Your credentials are impressive," he said finally. "However, teaching Eris will not be an easy task. She is… a bit of a challenge. I'm sure you've heard some stories about her."
I nodded. I had heard some whispers about Eris's temperament. "I'm prepared for challenges. My goal is to ensure she learns effectively while also growing as an individual."
Philip's eyes narrowed slightly. "Very well. I have one more condition before we finalize the arrangement."
I tensed slightly. "And that is?"
Philip leaned forward, his expression serious. "I need to be certain that you're genuinely committed to this role and not merely seeking to take advantage of the position. Eris is important to me, and I won't tolerate any failures or missteps."
"I understand," I said firmly. "I am committed to providing the best education possible for her. I assure you, I take this responsibility very seriously."
Philip nodded, seemingly satisfied with my response. "Good. Then we can proceed."
He reached into a drawer and pulled out a contract, sliding it across the desk toward me. I glanced at it quickly; it detailed my duties, the terms of my employment, and various clauses related to the education and well-being of Eris.
"I expect you to start immediately," Philip said, his tone brooking no argument. "Eris is currently in the gardens. You'll meet her there."
I took the contract and stood up, feeling a mix of relief and trepidation. "Thank you, sir. I'll make my way to the gardens now."
Philip gave a nod, and I left his study, making my way through the mansion's lush gardens. The scent of blooming flowers and freshly cut grass filled the air, providing a calming contrast to the tense atmosphere inside the study.
As I approached the garden, I saw a young girl practicing with a wooden sword. She was striking the air with vigorous determination, her fiery red hair tied back in a ponytail. She looked to be about the right age, and her intensity was palpable
Author's note:- I will be making a few changing from the original to save time. A lot are already familiar with the story so there no need to waste time on pointless character development
