Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race

Chapter 92: 92 - A Way to Resist

Rygar left the North God Style headquarters without another word, under the astonished gazes of everyone present. Hurried footsteps followed behind him, and soon Eris caught up, breathing heavily.

"Rygar! Why didn't you fight him?!" Eris questioned, frustration evident in her voice. "You would have definitely won; he was tiny!"

Eidar was already walking alongside them, next to Gertan. Though he didn't ask any questions, his expression made it clear he was also curious about Rygar's unexpected refusal.

After all, before coming here, Rygar had made it clear that he wanted a tough battle to test his limits and try to advance. But when the opportunity arose, he backed down.

Rygar smiled slightly, in no hurry to respond. "You're tiny too! I just thought it would be better to fight another day."

His gaze fell on Gertan, who was following them in silence. "Gertan, please inform the King that I want to move the meeting up to tomorrow. Is that possible?"

Gertan seemed surprised for a moment but quickly composed himself. "Yes, yes, that can be arranged. But I need to notify them now so they can finish the preparations."

Rygar nodded. "Do it."

Gertan stepped forward, preparing to leave. "Alright. Then I'll take my leave here. I'll likely be at the meeting tomorrow."

Eidar furrowed his brows. "See you tomorrow, then."

As soon as Gertan disappeared into the night, Rygar resumed his pace. Silence reigned for a few moments before he spoke:

"There's another reason I didn't fight. I felt something was off. I don't know what it is, but I have a bad feeling. And probably very few people know whatever is giving me this sensation because my instincts didn't warn me about anyone in particular. Not Gertan, nor any of the North God Style students. Everyone seems normal, but that only makes me more cautious."

Eris remained silent, containing her usual energy, and Eidar observed Rygar attentively.

"I want to check during the royal court if there's any threat," Rygar continued, "but in case it's some kind of trap, I don't want to be restrained, nor leave the girls unprotected."

"You can leave their protection to me!" Eidar immediately volunteered.

Rygar shook his head. "No. You're coming with me."

Eidar's eyes widened slightly, caught off guard, but he didn't question it. Rygar continued:

"I'm suspicious of this new North Emperor who challenged Ornthorn. Only Ghislaine would be able to hold him off temporarily if he were the enemy. Your strength will not be enough."

Eidar pondered Rygar's words for a moment before nodding. He didn't seem offended, only determined.

Rygar then looked at Eris. "You and Skoll will be responsible for taking care of Aisha and Lilia if Ghislaine is fighting a powerful enemy."

Eris clenched her fists and nodded, determined.

They arrived at their temporary residence shortly after.

The courtyard was illuminated by torches, and the sound of the wind was punctuated by Ghislaine's swift movements as she trained relentlessly.

Her body was covered in sweat, every muscle tense with effort. Lilia and Aisha were sitting nearby, the younger one entertained by manipulating a ball of water between her fingers. Skoll slept peacefully beside them, without a care in the world.

"Ghislaine!" Rygar called.

She turned immediately, her serious expression softening slightly upon seeing him.

Rygar told her everything: what they had done, the strange feeling of incongruence he had experienced, and his plans for the meeting with the King the next day. He explained that he would take Eidar with him and that she would be in charge of protecting the others.

Ghislaine listened attentively and then said without hesitation, "I will protect them."

Rygar opened his mouth to respond, but his gaze involuntarily slid over Ghislaine's sweat-covered body, the firelight accentuating every well-defined curve. The glint in her eyes and her heavy breathing distracted him for a moment.

Eidar coughed beside him. "Ahem!"

Rygar snapped back to reality and said, "Let's train before bed. I think I'm close to mastering the Flow."

Eidar blinked, wondering if he had heard correctly. "Right... Let's train."

After their training, Rygar informed Lilia of the potential danger and helped Aisha refine her magic control before they finally went to sleep.

---

Rygar opened his eyes and found himself immersed in an infinite white void. The silence was absolute, oppressive.

In front of him, a white figure appeared, with no defined form except for the face—or rather, the distorted mosaic mask that hid any trace of expression. Hitogami.

Without hesitation, Rygar raised his hand and invoked his Divine Attack magic.

A golden ray of pure light tore through the void, shooting toward the entity. However, with a simple gesture of his hand, Hitogami dispersed the attack as if brushing away dust.

But Rygar smiled. A fierce, triumphant smile.

"Hah! You dodged it!"

He raised his hand again to launch another attack, but something stopped him. It was as if an invisible chain had latched onto his soul, restricting his magic.

But the seed of victory had already been planted.

He could use Divine Attack magic here.

Which meant that this type of magic was directly related to and connected to his soul. And more importantly: he had a way to resist and wound Hitogami.

For an instant, Hitogami was clearly displeased. His friendly posture faltered, his presence wavered.

But only for an instant.

He quickly resumed his usual fake expression of sympathy and opened his arms as if greeting an old friend.

"Such aggression! Why the hostility?"

"Just a precaution," Rygar replied indifferently. "Now, where is this place? Who are the Seven Great Powers, and where are they? And why can't you descend to the mortal world?"

Hitogami sighed dramatically and shook his head, as if frustrated with a stubborn child. "Enough, enough! You always come with so many questions, Rygar! These aren't things that can be easily answered!"

Rygar kept his face expressionless. "And why not? Don't you always say you want to help me?"

Hitogami gritted his teeth. No matter how much he tried to appear friendly, his discomfort was clear.

"Haven't I helped you so far? And even now, I'm here to give you another piece of advice!"

Rygar narrowed his eyes. "You do realize I can sense your intentions, right? How can you lie so blatantly knowing that?"

Hitogami hugged himself and shivered exaggeratedly, as if terrified. "And you expected help without anything in return? How nice would that be? Of course, I'll need you in the future! But right now, I'm here to help you!"

Rygar remained skeptical. "Then answer at least two of my questions honestly."

Hitogami hesitated, his fingers twitching for a moment, as if calculating. "Fine! But only one question... and it depends on the question! There are many things I don't know!"

Rygar frowned, thinking. This guy was cautious. He wouldn't reveal anything about himself. It was better not to waste the opportunity. He needed valuable information, something not easily discovered. So he spoke:

"Who are the Seven Great Powers, and where are they?"

Hitogami let out a light chuckle. "Hehehe, that's easy!"

He raised his fingers and began listing them in a casual tone.

"The God of Technique is dead. The Dragon God is the Evil Dragon who wants to kill me and destroy the world—he is always wandering. The Fighting God is also dead. The Demon God is Laplace and is sealed! I don't know who the current Death God is… but he is in the Dragon King Kingdom! The Sword God is Gall Farion and is at the Sword Sanctuary, and the North God is from the Kalman lineage, as always, and is also wandering around!"

Rygar absorbed the information for a moment. "This is a bunch of useless information! A pile of mixed-up garbage. Kalman lineage? You don't know who it is? And how can the world's greatest powers be dead?!"

Hitogami shrugged. "Hey, I already answered! Don't complain—I told you my knowledge was limited!"

Rygar clenched his fists, irritated. "At least it's a clue. The Death God is in this kingdom? And even after death, the powers still remain… or it could just be a lie." He narrowed his eyes.

"How did the God of Technique die?"

Every encounter with Hitogami only brought more questions than answers, and he always had the feeling that out of every ten words spoken, nine were meant to manipulate and scheme. He had never known a being like Hitogami.

"Enough of this. Let's get to your advice!" Hitogami cut off any attempt at small talk.

"I'm sure you already suspect something, but you have no idea of the danger you're in!"

Hitogami spoke lightly, as if he were merely joking.

Rygar furrowed his brows. Every word from this guy felt like poison seeping into his mind. He had never met someone so shameless.

"Come on, don't be so uptight. Your situation is really dangerous. It's the last assassin hired by Milis." Hitogami shrugged, as if revealing a trivial fact.

Rygar raised an eyebrow.

"Hoh? And who is it?"

Hitogami's grin widened—a grin that only deepened Rygar's distrust.

"I don't know!" he said, almost theatrically.

Silence hung in the air for a moment. Rygar blinked slowly before sighing and running a hand over his face.

"Your uselessness never ceases to amaze me." Rygar's voice carried pure disdain.

Hitogami chuckled.

"Well, since you're just insulting me and asking impossible questions, I'll give you my advice and leave."

Rygar opened his mouth to interrupt him, but Hitogami ignored him completely and continued:

"Do not kill Minister Yaylol Wisebond. As long as you don't kill him, you won't regret it!"

His tone was playful, but something beneath those words carried a weight Rygar couldn't ignore.

The void around them began to dissolve, the edges of the dream shattering like cracked glass. The sensation of falling took over Rygar.

"Wait—!"

But before he could finish his sentence, he woke up suddenly, his body drenched in sweat, eyes wide open.

The name Yaylol Wisebond echoed in his mind.

But something else was even more pressing—he could use Divine Attack Magic, but Hitogami had restricted him after his first spell…

Rygar thought for a moment and deduced that since he couldn't harm Hitogami in dreams, he could assume that if he used an even stronger and faster attack, Hitogami wouldn't be able to resist or would have to dispel the dream entirely to avoid it. If that wasn't the case, it was still worth trying.

Rygar remained lying down for a few moments, reflecting on Hitogami's words.

His intention behind asking about the Seven Great Powers was to learn about all of them, but all he gained was the supposed death of two, the location of an unknown Death God, and confirmation that the current North God was from the Kalman lineage.

That meant he was probably from a long-lived race, like his predecessor. But if he had known Hitogami would respond that way, he would have asked something else…

And of course, he had to consider the possibility that it was all a lie.

As for the advice, he didn't care much. If the minister deserved to die, he would kill him without hesitation.

Besides, this could be an opportunity to test what would happen if he directly defied Hitogami's guidance.

Getting out of bed, Rygar walked toward the training yard, where he spotted Eris practicing with her sword. There was something about her determination that he always admired. Her strikes were fierce, firm, and full of purpose.

Moving silently, he approached her from behind, correcting her posture with his hands as he said:

"Higher than that. Your attacks are aiming too low."

Eris startled at the unexpected touch and voice. When she turned, she was met with Rygar, shirtless, his defined muscles and battle-hardened skin exposed.

His silver hair reflected the morning sunlight, and his golden eyes, deep and piercing, analyzed her every movement with precision.

Her face immediately turned red.

Swallowing hard, she adjusted her stance as instructed, but now her movements were a bit stiff—an effect of the unexpected closeness.

The heat on her face only increased, and her concentration wavered. Still, she tried her best to stay focused.

Rygar, noticing that she had made the proper correction, turned his gaze to the capital's sky. The weather was mild, and a fresh breeze blew, carrying the distant sounds of the city waking up for another day.

As he watched the horizon, his mind revisited his conversation with Hitogami over and over, searching for any loophole, any hidden trap within his words.

His thoughts soon drifted elsewhere. Even though he had just involuntarily become a North King, he felt he was getting closer and closer to achieving the title of Sword King as well.

He trained for a few minutes before Eidar arrived, dressed in elegant, well-fitted clothing. His friend looked him up and down before commenting with a slight smirk:

"You're meeting the king like that?"

Rygar raised an eyebrow and asked casually:

"Is there a problem?"

Eidar shrugged.

"None."

And with that, they bid farewell to the others and set off toward the palace.

The capital was alive with activity. Commerce was awakening, and the streets bustled with movement. Merchants set up their stalls, unpacking crates and arranging goods for display.

Shops opened their doors, and apprentices ran back and forth, carrying materials and merchandise. The aroma of freshly baked bread and grilled meat filled the air, mingling with the scent of herbs and spices sold in the markets.

Soldiers patrolled the streets, maintaining order, while nobles and well-dressed merchants passed by in luxurious carriages, their conversations filled with plans and business deals. Children played and ran through the alleys, their laughter echoing through the lively city.

As they advanced, the imposing Palace of the Dragon King Kingdom became increasingly dominant on the horizon.

The structure was magnificent.

Built from polished green-toned stone, it boasted golden details and grand sculptures of dragons coiling around its towers. Flags bearing the royal crest fluttered in the wind, and massive stained-glass windows adorned the exterior walls, reflecting the sunlight in dazzling colors.

The gates were colossal, adorned with golden reliefs depicting legendary battles. Soldiers stood in perfect formation, their armor gleaming under the daylight. The spears they held were impeccably polished, their eyes sharp and scrutinizing every visitor.

As Rygar and Eidar approached, one of the elite guards, clad in ornate armor, raised his voice with authority:

"Announcing the arrival of the Leader of the Iron Legion, Rygar Adoldia!"

A moment of silence followed before a thunderous sound echoed.

The gates began to open slowly, their hinges groaning as if the very city was holding its breath at Rygar's arrival.

And so, Rygar stepped forward toward his meeting with the king.
