Well, good morning to you too, Grimoire.

Sending the same mental confirmation, the book opens, and its pages begin to rapidly flip over and over as a yellow light begins to beam down from the pages.

Egyptian Mythology/Separation From Self: (-200 CP):

As a brand-new god or mortal stepping out into the world, it would certainly be a shame if some mere witch got a piece of you and put you into her power. A stray hair, a drop of spittle, spilled blood… any of these castoffs could betray you if they fell into the hands of hostile magi or gods with the will and the magic to work upon the link between yourself and it. Only the parts of yourself that you deliberately separate with the intention of keeping that sympathetic link can be used in magical rituals or spells; all other cast-off bits become mere dust in the wind, worthless to a mage.

Well, this is really good for a 200-point perk. Having immunity to being cursed if someone gets a bit of blood or an arm or a leg is definitely worth it. Curses are no joke. Yoink!

Again, the book begins to turn its pages, showing indecipherable symbols and lettering that make my head hurt just looking at them. I imagine that these words are so much higher than I am metaphysically that if I even attempted to comprehend a single percent of what they were saying, I would have my brains leaking from my ears.

Young Justice/Barry, No!: (-200 CP):

Oh wait? Do you mean to tell me Barry Allen does not mess up the timeline in this universe? Oh, it's his grandson who started the trend of messing up the timeline in Earth-16. I see. Anyways, it does not matter; changes to the timeline do not affect you anymore. You instantly gain any new memories of your life; however, your personality and emotions do not get affected unless you want them to. Also, no random-ass Kryptonian can go back in time to kill you as a baby.

Well, shit, it looks like I'm protected from time travel now. Thank you, Creator. But to be honest, it's a bit suspicious. The book is being very helpful today. Reroll again…

Naruto/What's Mine Is Mine: (-200 CP):

Poor Hashirama Senju. Decades after his death, and people are still desecrating his body and implanting his cells within them. God forbid something like that happen to you. Imagine people like Orochimaru possessing your biological abilities by gaining access to some of your cells, or even cloning you!

I'd say that would be hard, but in this world, it really isn't. It's a worry, or it would be, but there is something about you or, more precisely, about your DNA, something that actively works against all attempts to decipher it.

The smartest beings in the universe could try for a million years to gain access to your DNA, and they would come out with nothing. The greatest scientist could spend centuries trying to clone you, and it wouldn't work. Your cells could be implanted in thousands of test subjects, and not one would acquire any of your abilities nor appearance.

Now, if anyone manages to gain access to your DNA, it would give them no benefit whatsoever, including technology that would scan your biology and DNA, so no Omnitrix scanning you. You can toggle this on and off as you see fit.

(No joke, I rolled all of these back to back. I feel like your guys' comments have somehow managed to affect reality itself.)

[200 CP Remaining… Rolling]

To be honest, I was quite rapturously paying attention now, as not only is my DNA now indecipherable, but I'm also immune to time travel shenanigans, and people can't use leftover body parts against me. Truly, RNGJesus is with me.

Fate/Legends - Oasis of Fantasy/Old Man: (-600 CP):

"Assassination is an art. It's one you realised needed to be cultivated and honed. But it is also something you realised would be better grown by others that could truly master those arts. Perhaps you felt you never could become a true assassin because you already had such a talent for death that you could no longer hide from any prey you sought. When your presence brings visions of death to your targets, it becomes impossible to hide. But that is the fate for the assassin of assassins. Your nature is that of a simple and straightforward dealer of death. Through this option, you do not have a dozen tricks or the skill to craft the perfect trap or the ability to talk your way into the heart of any man. You do not need it. Your sheer, natural power leaves even dragons and demons of the highest orders realising that they face at least an equal, if not a superior, in physical might. Your speed is such that only the greatest warriors of mankind could even recognise you had moved before their heads slip from their necks. Even should they be able to see you move, your skill in combat without a weapon or with one of almost any kind is almost on the level of the gods of war themselves.

Your affinity for death is so powerful that you are not even limited to the killing of physical matter, as you can strike at and kill things even on an immaterial or conceptual level. Splitting a soul in half, cutting a demon out of a man, erasing a magical contract between two beings with a strike, or destroying the lack of a concept of death by a mighty slash. Even immortal beings cease to be in your presence. It has also given you a connection to strange flames of the underworld, manifesting as powerful blue fire that you can freely summon, allowing you to attack or even teleport through the flames, as well as the ability to control sand and the desert on an enormous scale, burying entire cities in sandstorms. The one downside is that those you seek to kill can now sense the evening bell tolling for them as you approach, warning them that their death is nigh and showing them a horrifying vision of you as you prepare to strike, even if you can perfectly conceal yourself from any being. It is a good thing though, that your prey would always see your face just as they die and carry it to the next world with them."

[Roll Failed… 200 CP Remaining]

..

…,,,,..,,,..

I want to fucking cry right now…

Watching as the golden light that was once so beautiful just sputters out like a candle that's been exposed to a soft breeze just kills me. Reading the words that were revealed from the book, I wonder if it's because I offended the Creator by praising RNGJesus.

Because not only have I lost out on an Age of Gods-level magic from Fate, but of every universe, I could've become one of the strongest assassins in the world… Truly, living in a DC universe is suffering.

However, even with all of these amazing perks, there is one thing that unsettles me because, while the effects of "Barry No" keep me from getting erased from people time traveling, it doesn't protect my future itself from being told.

Opening my eyes, I look around the room just to check to make sure that there's no one else currently in here. A small part of me is expecting one of the Endless or one of the angels to show up and smite me for the crime of existing.

However, as I roll slightly to the left, I see my sister just calmly lying there, and as I slightly envy how easy it is for her to fall asleep, I turn around to the right and thankfully see nothing.

Truly, though, the daily grind is rather boring, to say the least, as it's mostly just being woken up in the morning, eating breakfast, crawling around the house, and then eating lunch… getting my diaper changed… eating dinner, and then going to bed.

It's been like this for a month now… nothing out of the ordinary has happened other than Giovanni walking into the room and spreading around what I believe to be some type of runic inscription along the walls. Sadly, I don't even know what they mean yet, but I sometimes just find myself looking at them or at least where they were, as as soon as they are inscribed, they just disappear as if they were never there.

Honestly, I shouldn't have gotten too excited as now I can't fall asleep again. But before I could close my eyes again, the room door to the nursery opens and I see Sindella walk in, and as she looks over the cradle, she frowns, seeing that I'm still awake.

"What are you still doing up, Gale? Do you need Mommy to hold you again?" The question comes out, and immediately I am filled with secondhand embarrassment.

But seemingly out of control, I reach my arms towards her and smile, and as I see one of the brightest smiles appear on my new mother's face, she takes me into her arms and starts to hum a little song.

"Truly, I don't know what's going through that head of yours, but babies need their sleep, little Gale, and for the record, so does Mommy. Always remember that women always need their beauty sleep." And as she tickles my stomach, I again, without control, begin to burst into slight laughter.

She then begins to laugh alongside me, albeit very quietly so as not to wake my sister. Soon enough, she quiets down and simply brings me closer to her face, and with a tiny kiss on the cheek, I find myself getting tired.

"I don't know if you can hear me or even understand me, but I just want you to know that you are one of the most important things in my life. I love you so much. Good night, Gale…"

As my eyes begin to close, I send another thank-you to the Creator for having me in this family for as short as it may be. And it may have been my imagination, but I see what looks to be an angel giving me a thumbs-up from outside the window, but as quickly as I see it, it vanishes while I wonder if I just imagined it.

(Five Months Later (November, 1996))

[+100 CP Milestone… 400 CP Remaining]

Oh, I see that the book has finally decided to answer me again… where were you over the six months? The question, however, is met with silence as I feel the same mental question on whether or not to roll for new perks or items.

Just so you know, Grimoire, this conversation is not over. Now let us feed my magic addiction.

[Rolling…]

The Elder Scrolls: Dovah/Iron Fangs: (-100 CP):

"My, Jumper, what big teeth you have. All the better to chomp down on some poor fool. Yes, there don't seem to be a lot of good offensive options for a dragon if you ignore the Thu'um, but that's forgetting about the mouth and its many dagger-sized teeth. Your teeth can pierce through most substances but ebony with surprising ease, while the inside of your mouth and tongue are as durable as your scales. Additionally, your teeth will never chip or break and are always clean."

Really, Grimoire? Stronger teeth? You can grant phenomenal cosmic power, and from this, all I get is stronger teeth?

[300 CP Remaining]

At this point, I'll take anything…

The book then, similarly to before, bestows upon me its golden radiance. But instead of the normal cloaking in golden light, it focuses on my mouth, and I can feel the gums become a bit stronger as, while I don't have any teeth, it does help that in the future, I won't need to worry about taking care of my teeth. A small chuckle then exits my throat as I am reminded of that song from Fairly OddParents.

The book, however, seemingly not done, then unfurls its pages once again.

[Rolling…]

Miraculous Ladybug/Quantum Masking: (-200 CP):

You now have a seemingly magical ability to have people not recognize you. You see, if you have any sort of mask on, you can activate this ability to don an alternate persona. Others will not recognize your voice, face, hair, eyes, etc. When people can only hear your voice, you can choose if people recognize you as you or one of your personas. Just be careful—people can still connect two and two if they see you don that mask or take it off, and also if you tell them. Glasses count as a mask for this ability. Miraculous users already gain this benefit from their transformed state.

Are you trying to tell me something, Grimoire?… Because if you are, I don't like it. But then again, it wouldn't hurt to be able to have an alternate identity. And with that, I accepted the perk, and soon enough, its golden light shines down once again.

This time, however, my sister is awake to see it, as over these past couple of months, I've realized that no one can see the book unless I allow them to, along with the process of me gaining new perks, and knowing that my sister won't even remember any of this, I sometimes show her, as she likes to watch.

I've only done it a couple of times, but I'll probably stop soon, as soon enough, she'll be able to have longer-term memory than a couple of days.

And with that, as the sun rises on the horizon, a new day begins, and the grueling embarrassment of having to get my diaper changed remains ever-present.

(OK boys and girls we're gonna be ramping up the age increases in the next chapter. We're gonna be meeting some interesting people. We're gonna have some fun but to be honest it's kind of funny seeing how much and then how little random chance of favors this MC.)
