Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Rebirth in Chaos
(Ethan's POV)
The last thing I remembered was the flash of headlights barreling toward me. The world spun, gravity tugging at my body as I hit the asphalt. Then... darkness.
Now, I'm gasping for air, choking on the humid, stifling heat of a jungle. The scent of damp earth and rotting vegetation is overwhelming, and when I open my eyes, I see towering trees stretching endlessly into the sky.
'Where am i? How did i get here?'
I stagger to my feet, disoriented. My clothes—no, they do not even look like mine anymore. They're tattered, a mix of leather and canvas, a little plain but sturdy. My hands tremble as I inspect myself. There's a faint glow in the corner of my vision, an interface that shouldn't exist:
[Welcome, Ethan.]
[You have been selected to participate in the Multiverse Survival Program.]
[Survival Mode: Active. Objective: Live.]
"What... the hell?" I muttered while my heart is pounding.
Before I could make sense of the situation, a deafening roar shakes the ground beneath me. Birds—no, they're too large to be birds—burst from the treetops in a cacophony of screeches. I turn toward the source of the sound, and that's when I see it: a dinosaur.
A real, live, fucking dinosaur.
It's massive, a creature straight out of a nightmare, its long neck stretching high above the trees as it tears through the foliage. Behind it, smaller predators with sharp claws and terrifying agility sprint into view, their eyes glinting with hunger.
'I don't have time to think. I must run!'
(3rd Person POV)
The city of Edward town had been a bustling industrial hub, a place where life moved at a frenetic pace. But now, it lay in ruins, its skeletal skyscrapers half-swallowed by prehistoric foliage. The Third Energy experiment had gone catastrophically wrong, ripping the city and its residents from their modern world and hurling them millions of years into the past.
Survivors were scarce. Most had been devoured by the predators that now roamed the streets. Cars lay abandoned, some overturned, their occupants torn apart. The once-pristine parks were now hunting grounds, and the air was filled with the constant sound of screams and roars.
Ethan was one of the lucky ones—or perhaps unlucky, depending on one's perspective.
(Ethan's POV)
I duck behind a fallen log, my chest heaving as I try to quiet my breathing. The predators are close. Too close. My mind races, replaying survival guides I'd watched back in my old life. "Avoid direct eye contact with predators. Stay silent. Don't run unless absolutely necessary."
'Yeah, well, tell that to the raptors.'
The system interface flashes again.
[Survival Choice Activated.]
Choose Your Reward:
First Choice [Crude Spear] (Wood and stone, weak but effective for close combat)
Second Choice [Camouflage Net] (Blend into surroundings to avoid detection)
Third Choice [Basic Survival Instinct] (Enhanced reflexes for a short period)
I didn't hesitate to choose the [Camouflage Net!]
A small, shimmering object materializes beside me. I grabbed it ran behind the shrubs and draped it over myself just as one of the raptors' heads swivels in my direction. My heart hammers in my chest as it sniffs the air, its nostrils flaring.
I was terrified for a moment as it steps closer, its claws sinking into the muddy ground just inches from my hiding spot.
(3rd Person POV)
The raptor tilted its head, sharp eyes scanning the area. Its instincts told it prey was nearby, but the shimmering distortion of Ethan's camouflage net masked his presence as it was not familiar to modern technology. Frustrated, it let out a low growl before darting off to rejoin its pack to chase down other frantically running survivors.
For now, Ethan was safe.
But safety in this world was a fleeting illusion.
(Ethan's POV)
I exhale shakily after holding my breath, waiting until the sounds of the raptors fade before I crawl out of my hiding spot. My clothes are soaked with sweat, my hands shaking as I clutch the net to my chest.
This isn't a game. This is real. And if I don't adapt, I'm dead.
The system flashes again:
[Survival Points Earned: 10]
[Tip: Use your environment to your advantage. The strong thrive, the weak perish.]
I glare at the text. "Thanks for the pep talk."
But deep down, I know it's right.
( 3rd Person POV)
As Ethan struggled to survive, the jungle around him teemed with life and death. Corpses from Edwardstown residents littered the forest floor, some half-consumed, others left untouched as predators moved on to easier prey.
Far away, Regina strode through the undergrowth, her weapon drawn and her sharp eyes scanning the terrain. She had seen the devastation the Third Energy experiment had wrought, and she was determined to contain it.
She didn't know it yet, but her path was about to cross with someone unexpected—someone who might just be the key to survival in this hellish new world.
