Chapter 58: Chapter 57: The Duel Begins

Even though it was obvious the visitors had bad intentions, as the saying goes, "You don't hit a smiling face." Wang Cheng kept his tone polite.

"Welcome, honored guests from Japan. I've heard that you've been traveling across China seeking duels with fellow cultivators. Our Maoshan Sect would also like to witness the strength of Japanese magic. We're glad to have you here for a friendly exchange."

Jirou Shino kept a polite smile.

"I have long heard of Maoshan's great reputation, and now that I see it in person, it truly lives up to its name. We come with a spirit of learning and humbly request a lesson."

If someone only listened to his words and saw his smile, they would never guess how many people had already died at his hands—how many had lost their cultivation forever, unable to practice again.

"Alright, since that's the case, let's get straight to the point," Wang Cheng said, unwilling to waste time on empty pleasantries.

"You've just arrived, so take some time to rest. We'll have our match shortly."

The Japanese were here for exactly this purpose—to use the guise of friendly sparring to cripple China's strongest cultivators. Hearing Wang Cheng's words, they quickly agreed.

Half an hour passed in no time.

Jirou Shino stood up.

"We are well-rested now. Sect Leader Wang, how shall we proceed with the match?"

Wang Cheng glanced at Lin Jiu, who was meditating and adjusting his breathing.

"Each side will send out seven fighters. When one loses, the next will take their place. The match continues until one side is completely defeated. How does that sound?"

"No problem! We'll follow your arrangements, Master Wang. I'll send Matsui Kaede as our first fighter."

As soon as he finished speaking, a man in his forties stood up from the group.

He walked onto the stage without any expression. His pale skin made him look unnaturally cold, almost like a corpse.

Master Wang nodded. "Lin Jiu, your turn!"

Hearing the call, Uncle Nine opened his eyes. A sharp light seemed to flash through them.

"Yes, Senior Brother!"

With that, he jumped onto the stage.

The two fighters exchanged a respectful fist salute. A loud gong rang, and the match officially began.

Uncle Nine dashed forward at high speed and threw a powerful punch. His opponent reacted quickly, raising both arms to block. The fight continued back and forth for over ten rounds, but the Japanese fighter started struggling to keep up with Uncle Nine's movements.

The crowd below erupted in cheers.

"Go, Lin Jiu!"

"Hit him harder!"

"You got this, Uncle!"

The cheering was all for Uncle Nine, while the Japanese team remained silent, carefully watching the fight.

At that moment, Uncle Nine spotted an opening. Seizing the chance, he kicked his opponent hard in the stomach.

The Japanese fighter staggered back several steps, bending over in pain.

Then, dark smoke slowly began to rise from his body. The eerie smoke made everyone feel uncomfortable. Uncle Nine didn't rush in recklessly and instead observed the changes carefully.

His opponent started to recover, straightening up while chanting in a language no one understood.

The black smoke churned violently, and faint shadowy figures could be seen moving inside it.

Uncle Nine quickly pulled out a talisman from his robe and threw it at the smoke. The moment it touched the smoke, it burst into flames, thinning the darkness slightly.

Seeing that it worked, he immediately threw several more talismans. The black smoke kept fading until the creature inside became visible—a fierce spirit.

What was called an evil spirit in their homeland was actually considered a deity in Japan. The so-called "eight million gods" were no joke.

In Japan, anything supernatural could be worshiped as a god.

Uncle Nine could now clearly see the evil spirit. Just then, the creature lunged at him. He swiftly pulled out a Five Thunder Talisman and hurled it forward.

A flash of lightning struck, injuring the spirit slightly. But after a brief pause, it charged again.

Realizing the talisman had some effect, Uncle Nine felt relieved.

If I can hurt you, that means I can kill you!

Without hesitation, he grabbed six or seven more talismans and threw them all at once.

A series of powerful lightning bolts rained down, electrocuting the spirit so badly it could barely move.

Even though it was struggling to stand, Uncle Nine believed in finishing the job when the enemy is weak.

He shouted, "Take this!"

More Five Thunder Talismans came crashing down.

The spirit was instantly destroyed, its soul scattered into nothingness.

The Japanese fighter coughed up blood and collapsed onto the stage.

Since an Onmyoji and their Shikigami were spiritually connected, the Onmyoji suffered severe damage when their Shikigami was destroyed.
