Chapter 308: Flames
Shen Jingqi dodged the spider's attacks while looking for its weak point. His eyes revealed determination and calmness, his brain was working at lightning speed. He discovered the spider's eyes were its weakness, those eyes like bright jewels, but in his eyes, they were a fatal flaw. He secretly calculated the timing of the attack in his heart, waiting for a perfect opportunity.
The spider lunged at them again, its body leaping high, like a black mountain crashing down. Seizing the moment when the spider was spinning its silk, Shen Jingqi dashed forward with lightning speed. His eyes were flashing with resolute brilliance, tightly clutching the dagger in his hand, as if it was his lifeline. He fiercely stabbed toward the spider's eyes, the dagger carrying his strength and courage, straight into the spider's eye.
The spider cried out in pain and began to struggle frantically. Its body twisted on the ground, eight legs flailing wildly, creating a "crackling" sound. Lin Yue also took the opportunity to pick up a rock, her hands gripping it tightly, her arms trembling slightly from the exertion. She smashed it towards the spider's head, the rock carrying her anger and determination, heavily hitting the spider's head.
Under their combined attack, the spider finally fell to the ground dead. Its body twitched a few times on the ground, then moved no more. The cave was filled with a pungent smell of blood, making one feel nauseated. Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue breathed a sigh of relief, slumping on the ground, gasping heavily for air.
However, before they could rest, they heard a low roar. That sound seemed to originate from deep underground, imbued with an ancient and mysterious power, making one's soul tremble. Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue exchanged glances, their eyes full of fear and unease. They didn't know what the source of the sound was, nor what kind of danger they might face next.
They slowly stood up, cautiously heading towards the source of the sound. Every step was filled with tension and vigilance. The atmosphere in the cave became more oppressive, as if an invisible pair of eyes were watching them. Suddenly, a huge cave appeared in front of them, flickering with eerie lights. Those lights, like the eyes of a ghost, alternated in brightness in the dark, sending chills down the spine.
They slowly walked into the cave, and the sight before them left them stunned. The cave was filled with many gigantic stone coffins, covered in strange symbols and patterns. Those symbols and patterns seemed to contain some mysterious power, inspiring awe. In the center of the cave, there was a large altar, on which a fierce flame was burning, dancing in the dark like a demon's dance.
The roaring was coming from behind the altar. They cautiously walked towards the altar, every step exceedingly difficult. When they circled around the altar, they saw a gigantic figure. The figure was as tall as a mountain, its body shrouded in a layer of black mist, obscuring its true form. Its eyes flickered with red light, like burning flames, filled with evil and terror.
Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue's bodies trembled involuntarily, their hearts filled with fear. They didn't know what this monster was, nor why it appeared here. The monster let out a roar, echoing like thunder, shaking the cave. It lunged at them with such speed, leaving them no time to react.
Shen Jingqi and Lin Yue quickly scattered to the sides, their bodies like agile leopards, narrowly escaping the monster's attack at the last moment. The monster missed, its body crashing into a stone coffin, shattering it into pieces that flew everywhere. Taking advantage of the monster turning around, they began to look for an escape route. However, the cave was filled with stone coffins and obstacles, making the escape unnavigable.
The monster pounced repeatedly, and they repeatedly dodged. During the evasion, Shen Jingqi noticed that the monster seemed afraid of the flames on the altar. Whenever it approached the flames, its body would tremble slightly. An idea came to his mind. He quietly moved closer to the altar, attempting to seize the flames.
However, the monster seemed to sense his intent, letting out an enraged roar as it lunged towards Shen Jingqi. He didn't have time to dodge and had to brace himself to confront the monster. He swung the dagger in his hand towards the monster, but its body was as hard as iron, and the dagger couldn't harm it at all.
Lin Yue was anxious, seeing Shen Jingqi in danger filled her with urgency. She searched around for something to aid him, suddenly spotting a fragment of the stone coffin nearby. She picked up a sharp piece and threw it at the monster. Although it didn't cause much harm, it attracted the monster's attention.
The monster turned and lunged at Lin Yue, its massive body like a moving hill, with overwhelming momentum. Each step made the ground tremble slightly, raising dust all around. Lin Yue stared wide-eyed in terror, her heart pounding wildly in her chest, as if it would burst out. She instinctively wanted to retreat but found her feet nailed to the ground, unable to move.
"Run!" Shen Jingqi shouted hoarsely, his voice echoing in the cave. His eyes were filled with urgency and worry, his body already sprinting towards the altar. Lin Yue finally snapped out of her trance, gritting her teeth and using all her strength to turn and run. Her hair flew wildly in the wind, her breathing rapid and heavy, every step filled with fear and anxiety.
Taking the opportunity, Shen Jingqi dashed towards the altar, his legs moving like they were powered by springs. His eyes were firmly fixed on the flames on the altar, their only hope at that moment. His mind held only one thought: get the flame, save Lin Yue. When he finally reached the altar, he unhesitatingly grabbed a burning branch with both hands. The flames instantly scorched his palms, but he ignored the pain, holding onto the branch tightly, swinging it at the monster.
The flames burned in the air, making a "crackling" sound. The dancing flames were like lively spirits, carrying intense heat and formidable deterrence. The monster seemed extremely fearful of the flames, its body shuddered abruptly, its former fierce stance turning instantly timid. It retreated repeatedly, letting out furious roars, with a hint of fear and reluctance mixed in. Its eyes were fixed on the flame in Shen Jingqi's hand, as if it was an insurmountable chasm.
