Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Impressing Snape

Based on the potion's formula, Snape could only determine that this potion had a similar effect to Polyjuice Potion, capable of altering a person's physical form.

However, he could not fully grasp its specific effects. Even so, he could tell from the formula that the potion was already quite refined, just one step away from completion.

To possess such a deep foundation in potion-making as a first-year student, Snape felt like he was witnessing the rise of a future Potions Master.

Hearing Snape's question, Alex didn't intentionally keep everyone in suspense. Instead, he revealed a mysterious smile and shared the potion's effect with the group:

"From my research, I've discovered that a wizard's innate talent is linked to a special bloodline factor within their lineage.

The higher the concentration of this bloodline factor in the body, the stronger the wizard's magical talent.

Of course, that's only one aspect. Another factor influencing a wizard's talent is the soul.

Since the soul is too enigmatic and difficult to influence, while the bloodline is relatively easier to affect, I came up with the idea of creating a special potion that could trace a wizard's bloodline back to its origins, allowing for a reversion to an ancestral state.

If successful, this would mean that a young wizard's talent could become the sum of their own innate talent and that of their ancestors. With such a potion, every wizard could potentially become a magical genius. Even Squibs could regain their magical abilities. And, if Muggles carried latent wizard genes, they too might awaken their magical potential!"

Snape froze in place, falling into silence, unable to believe what he had just heard.

A potion that could restore ancestral bloodlines, modify innate talents, allow Squibs to perform magic, and potentially awaken magic in Muggles?

As a Potions Master, he was well aware of the implications of such a potion.

Even the other young wizards present could grasp the enormity of what Alex was suggesting.

If Alex's potion was as miraculous as he described, it would revolutionize the wizarding world.

His invention would become a groundbreaking creation, the most sought-after potion in magical history. With this invention alone, Alex could become the greatest wizard of the era, potentially even surpassing Dumbledore.

Snape's body trembled slightly as he questioned Alex again: "Mr. Alex, are you certain about what you've just said? Does this potion truly have the effects you claim?"

Alex calmly nodded but then shook his head slightly, adding:

"It does achieve the effect of restoring bloodlines, but the potion is still incomplete. According to my calculations, while drinking it would greatly enhance a wizard's talent, it would also come with various side effects."

Snape nodded in understanding. Of course, such a powerful potion would naturally come with significant side effects. If it truly had no side effects, this potion would be as monumental an invention as the Philosopher's Stone!

Alex, as a first-year student, no matter how fortunate he was, couldn't possibly create something of that magnitude… could he?

Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Snape even momentarily forgot about his upcoming first encounter with Harry Potter. Instead, he asked Alex once more:

"Mr. Alex, what would be the cost of using this potion?"

A mysterious smile grew on Alex's face as every student in the room focused their attention on him.

"The bloodline restoration can only trace the maternal side and only for one generation. In other words, the wizard's bloodline can only merge with their mother's bloodline and cannot be combined with that of other ancestors.

Moreover, after consuming the bloodline restoration potion, the wizard's appearance would also be affected, and for a long time, they would look exactly like their mother."

Hearing Alex's initial words, Snape felt slightly disappointed, but as he heard the second half, an inexplicable thought came to him.

The usually cold and distant man suddenly grabbed Alex's hands tightly, his voice trembling as he asked: "You mean, when a wizard drinks the Ancestral Restoration Potion, they will take on their mother's appearance for a long time?"

Alex could clearly feel Snape's hands trembling and understood the reason behind it.

Of course, it was because Snape thought of Harry's mother, Lily. If Harry could drink the Ancestral Restoration Potion, he would take on Lily's appearance for an extended period.

Even if it wasn't truly Lily, being able to see her likeness again would be a rare comfort for Snape.

Alex nodded. "Yes, that's correct. The Ancestral Restoration Potion has some similarities to Polyjuice Potion, but unlike Polyjuice, it doesn't require parts of the target's body and cannot transform the drinker into just anyone's appearance. It can only transform them into their mother.

What's harder to accept is that the potion's effect lasts a very long time. At a minimum, it takes a year to return to normal, and in some cases, the change could last a lifetime.

However, I've already begun researching an antidote. I believe I can develop one within a certain timeframe. That said, once the antidote is taken, the Ancestral Restoration Potion's enhancement to the user's talent will also disappear."

As Alex finished, Snape suddenly exclaimed: "No! This isn't a drawback—this is the potion's greatest advantage!"

But then he noticed the strange looks the surrounding young wizards were giving him. Realizing his slip, he coughed awkwardly and added:

"I mean, the potion not only enhances magical talent but also acts as an upgraded version of Polyjuice Potion. If these effects are separated, they would result in two entirely different revolutionary inventions.

Mr. Alex, you're... impressive, truly impressive! Now, how far along is the potion?"

"The potion itself is complete," Alex replied calmly. "I'm only working on the antidote now."

"That's wonderful!" Snape exclaimed, grabbing the parchment on Alex's desk. He read it carefully, memorizing the herbs and brewing process before returning to the podium.

He turned to the class and announced loudly: "Mr. Alex has developed a groundbreaking potion. Ravenclaw earns fifty points!"

---

After leaving the Potions classroom, Hermione was practically glued to Alex, bombarding him with questions. "Alex, did you really invent the Ancestral Restoration Potion?"

Alex smiled modestly. "Just a lucky discovery."

Hermione, however, knew he was being humble. Judging by Professor Snape's reaction, she could tell just how revolutionary Alex's potion was.

Even Snape, who was notoriously hard to impress, had been shocked by its effects. That someone her age could invent a potion of such magnitude left Hermione in awe.

"Alex, you're absolutely amazing!" she said sincerely.

As they headed toward the Transfiguration classroom, Alex shrugged. "It's nothing. Just standard practice."

When they arrived at the classroom, it was empty except for a graceful tabby cat sitting on the podium, watching the students intently.

The moment Hermione spotted the cat, she was immediately enchanted by how cute it was. She rushed forward to pet it, but just as she stepped closer, Alex grabbed her arm.

Confused, Hermione turned to him, only to see Alex looking at the cat and saying, "Good afternoon, Professor McGonagall."

The elegant cat paused before transforming back into her human form. Professor McGonagall looked at Alex curiously and asked,

"How did you know that the cat was me?"

Alex replied, "I once bought many books from the wizarding world at a bookstore. Among them, there was one that introduced the fascinating magic of Animagus.

Moreover, the classroom was empty, and you are known to be a very meticulous lady, so I guessed that the cat must be you."

Hearing Alex's explanation, Professor McGonagall gave him an approving look and said calmly, "Well done. Ten points to Ravenclaw!"

As they returned to their seats, Hermione quickly asked Alex,

"Alex, what is an Animagus?"

"It's an advanced transformation technique that requires magical energy to practice. Once a wizard masters it, they can transform into an animal while retaining their rational mind, unaffected by the animal's brain capacity."

Hermione nodded thoughtfully. "I see!"

Her admiration for Alex grew even stronger. She had never encountered anyone so outstanding. If everything went as expected, Alex would likely perfect the Ancestral Restoration Potion and become a wizard who surpassed Dumbledore during his school years!

It was truly unbelievable.

---

The first Transfiguration class did not involve any actual transformations. Instead, it was mostly theoretical knowledge about the subject.

Even so, Alex, with a playful attitude toward the learning process, still managed to win thirty points for Ravenclaw during the class discussions.

Hermione also contributed ten points for their house.

By the end of the first day, Ravenclaw was far ahead of the other three houses in house points. Meanwhile, Alex's name had spread across Hogwarts.

Everyone knew about Professor Snape's high praise of Alex, believing he had the potential to surpass Dumbledore and become one of the greatest wizards.

If it had been anyone else making such a claim, the students might not have believed it. But this was Professor Snape—a man known for his partiality toward Slytherin and his reluctance to award points to other houses.

For Snape to speak so highly of Alex only added to the legitimacy of the claim.

Even some professors found it hard to believe. What could a first-year student possibly have done to make Snape conclude that he would surpass Dumbledore?

---

At lunchtime, Alex and Hermione went to the Great Hall to eat.

Thanks to the house-elves, students could change their meals if they didn't like the dishes served, as long as they didn't waste food.

Because Alex's true power was too overwhelming, even after self-sealing most of it, the small fraction that leaked out allowed him to maintain a fasting-like state. As a result, meals didn't taste as delicious to him as they once had.

However, since his current body was still that of a mortal, despite possessing immense chaotic magical energy, he still had a normal appetite and was enjoying his meal thoroughly.

While Alex was eating, his brow suddenly furrowed as he looked to the side. He saw a group of Slytherin students who did not appear in the original storyline walking toward him, their arrogant gazes fixed on him.

One of them spoke directly:

"Alex, what trick did you use to fool Professor Snape? Come clean now!"

Another added, "Exactly! You're just a filthy Mudblood. How could a first-year student invent a potion? Even the Dark Lord couldn't do that!"

The rest of the group chimed in, and finally, the leader sneered, "A lowly Mudblood like you couldn't possibly create a potion as advanced as the Ancestral Restoration Potion. Admit it—you must have stolen the formula from some Potions Master!"

Seeing Alex being harassed by the Slytherins, Hermione immediately stood up and retorted, "That's not true! Alex invented the Ancestral Restoration Potion himself!"

However, Hermione, being outnumbered, was quickly overwhelmed by the Slytherins' insults and had no choice but to sit down.

At this moment, Alex finished the chicken leg in his hand, set it down, and was about to teach the Slytherins a lesson when Draco Malfoy suddenly appeared.

Standing in front of the group, Malfoy shouted loudly: "I, Draco Malfoy, guarantee on behalf of the Malfoy family that Alex invented the Ancestral Restoration Potion himself. He didn't steal it, so stop this nonsense!"

Hearing Malfoy's words, the Slytherin students hesitated, their expressions turning wary.

Unlike Alex, who was from a Muggle background, the Malfoy family wielded significant influence in the wizarding world and had numerous connections within the Ministry of Magic.

While they dared to target Muggle-borns like Alex and Hermione, they wouldn't dare cross someone from the Malfoy family.

Reluctantly, the leader of the Slytherins said coldly,

"We're leaving!"

But just as they turned to leave, a calm but icy voice rang out behind them: "Who said you could leave?"

Alex was seen wiping his hands clean with a napkin, then pulling out his wand and pointing it at them.

The Slytherin leader scowled even more and sneered, "Hah, we were giving Malfoy some face. Who do you think you are, you filthy Mudblood? What do you plan to do, stop us? Or perhaps you want to duel us?"

One of the students behind the leader shouted, "Damn Mudblood! How dare you point your wand at us? We'll make sure you regret it!"

Malfoy, seeing the situation spiraling out of control again, attempted to mediate, but the Slytherin leader ignored him entirely.

The leader said coldly,

"Malfoy, it's not that we don't respect you, but this Mudblood dared to insult a member of a pure-blood family! He must be taught a lesson he'll never forget. If you continue to defend him, you'll be branded a traitor to the pure-blood families!"

"I…" Malfoy hesitated, visibly conflicted after being burdened with such a heavy accusation.

At that moment, Alex stepped out from behind Malfoy and said with disdain…
