Chapter 541: Hammer Upgrade.
If Roar was in the wild, where he is constantly being hunted and has to fight every day for his survival, growing stronger would be his highest priority.
But Roar is not in the wild. He is living a good life.
From when he was just a puppy, he had eaten his fill of meat without having to work for it. Now he is in a safe place where he can afford to sleep all day. So he has no motivation to enhance his power.
Arthur sighed to himself and said, "Not that he is wrong to be afraid. There is indeed a risk of death. Considering his talent, it might be a good idea for him not to risk his life."
He understands where Roar is coming from and why the dog is like that. But as someone who wanted a powerful steed, he doesn't want Roar to stop growing stronger.
He said to himself again, "I guess I will have to forget about getting a powerful pet or just get another pet to lay my hopes on."
If he gets a new pet or steed, he will prefer one that is already at the fourth mortal coil. That way, he won't have to coerce the pet to advance. But this will make it very expensive to acquire.
He would also like the new pet to be young. Unfortunately, this is a tall order. It might even be impossible to get a young creature that is already at the fourth mortal coil at birth.
At least, he is not aware of such a thing existing in the Five Veins Region. So he might have to settle for an old steed instead.
As he was thinking about this, he reached the forging hall. The winnings from his bet also arrived, so he had more than enough money for the parts that he needed for the upgrade.
This time, he didn't need to design the weapon. What he wanted to do was make the weapon bigger and heavier, upgrade the formation, and upgrade the external foundation to the golden core realm.
The goal he had in mind for the hammer is a weapon that can produce a magnetic field. which he can use to enhance his own magnetic field.
If that doesn't work, he hopes that the magnetic field of the hammer will make it easier for him to lift it. That way, he can make the hammer insanely heavy.
If he can make the hammer way heavier than something a cultivator at the golden core should be able to lift and yet be able to lift it by coupling the magnetic field of his golden core to the magnetic field of the hammer, he will be very satisfied.
For this, he will need more raw materials to make the hammer bigger. He will also need to forge the whole hammer into an electromagnet. Lastly, he will need to upgrade the external foundation to the golden core level so that it will have enough energy to run the whole system.
So there are three steps in total that he has to go through to get what he wants. One of them is very easy. But there is one that is going to be very difficult.
The easiest step to achieve here is forging a physically bigger and heavier hammer. This part requires low-skilled labor. He can literally bang one out in the forge during his spare time.
The process of using formations to turn the forged hammer into an electromagnet, on the other hand, isn't something he can be laid back about.
An electromagnet is a type of temporary magnet that produces a magnetic field only when it is conducting electricity. The source of electricity will be the lightning from the external foundation.
On earth, this kind of magnet is made with coils of conducting wire. He doesn't want to do that because it will be too bulky.
Instead, he wants to rely on formations to achieve this kind of magnet because he doesn't want to have wire coils in his hammer, as that will reduce its structural integrity and take up space that could be used by other things.
So this step is going to require some technical difficulties and careful planning. There is even a chance of failure, which might require him to start all over again.
Fortunately he has some experience in the matter, so he is not daunted by the difficulty. He is also looking forward to the experience because he believes it will help him learn a lot about his new talent.
The last step, which is upgrading the external foundation to the golden core stage, has a difficulty level that is in between the first two.
It is easy because he knows how to do it. But it is difficult because he has never done it before, and if he fails, he will have to start all over again from scratch.
He gained the method to upgrade the external foundation to the fourth mortal coil a few years back when Patriarch Sword Flash called him over to exchange for it.
Patriarch Sword Flash had promised that when he entered the inner sect, he could exchange for the rank 4 and the rank 5 portion of the Life Pill Art that he created.
But he wasn't the one who went to the Patriarch to ask for the remaining parts. He was still waiting for when he would need the parts and was hesitant to approach the Patriarch to ask about how much it would cost him to exchange for the remaining parts.
But the Patriarch didn't want to wait until he was ready to exchange for them. Patriarch Sword Flash had called him over and made him drop a symbolic amount of contribution points for both the rank 4 and rank 5 parts.
The Patriarch didn't speak much during that meeting. Even though it was in the form of an avatar, he was still in a hurry to do a lot of things and had sent him away as soon as he gave him the Life Pill Art.
