Moonlight Blue

Chapter 18: Brave Hero

In the dungeon of the Old team.

*Boom*

“Are you serious?”

“Unbelievable.”

“The captain has taken down a Wyvern all by himself.”

Everyone is shocked as they’ve just witnessed Gerald kill a Wyvern all by himself.

The Old team was fighting a horde of monsters, ground rats, that showed up out of nowhere. Ground rats were the size of goblins and used all four. They weren’t that strong, but they liked to travel in a herd. They had a strong bite that could snap an arm like it was nothing.

“Just where did this many monsters come from?” asked Theodore in shock.

Theodore was the vice-captain of the village guards back before Allen took charge of them. He is a skilled spearman who was lucky enough to be given spear techniques by Allen since he was the only one at the time who used a spear. He is in his thirties, has a muscular built, light skin and brown hair.

“DEFENSE UNIT. FORWARD!” commanded Theodore.

The people equipped with shields marched forward, imbued their shields with mana and braced for impact. The monsters clashed with the shield’s men as the spearmen from behind them stabbed the halted monsters. Even with their shield wall, the guards were being pushed back by the stampede.

“OPEN THE SHIELD WALL!”

The shield’s men then opened up a space for a portion of the monsters to enter their defence line where swordsmen were waiting. They clashed with the monsters, cutting as much as they could.

“DAMN! We are being overwhelmed. Where the hell is the captain?”

Theodore remembered that Gerald had a stomach ache after eating a monster he had killed inside the dungeon and had been running non-stop to the toilet.

It’s okay. Everyone is handling themselves quite well. With the armour and weapons, we have, there is no way we can lose. I should focus on clearing these monsters first to give everyone a chance to breath. Thought Theadore.

He took a stance as his spear pointed forward. Mana radiated from it.

“Spear arts: Vortex thrust.”

With a powerful thrust that looked like a vortex at the tip, the monsters were blown away.

“DON’T GIVE UP! KEEP PUSHING!”

“Vice-captain…”

“Of course.”

The morale of the guards increased as they put their all in pushing the horde of monsters.

“Spear arts: Circular sweep.”

Theodore then swirled his spear around decapitating all the monsters around him. Everyone was now fighting with everything they had.

After a few minutes.

“Huff, huff, huff. Is everyone okay?”

Everyone responded. All of them were alive but some of them were hurt badly. Thanks to the armour they wore, their wounds weren’t fatal, but they were tired.

“What got all those monsters all riled up?”

Theodore was conflicted by the thought of the cause for monsters to behave like this. Having being the vice-captain for more than twenty years, Theodore was no stranger when it came to monster stampedes. Monster stampedes were either caused by a natural disaster or the monsters were afraid of an even stronger monster.

Since they were in a dungeon where it was impossible for a natural disaster to occur, that only meant the latter reason.

*SCREECH*

A powerful screech that rang everyone’s eardrums shrieked from the depths of the dungeon.

Powerful distant footsteps continued to become less distant. A Wyvern then emerged from the darkness.

A wyvern is a monster that is related to a dragon. Unlike a dragon, it has a much smaller build. Due to the size of its body, its speed is incredible.

It rushed towards the injured and tired soldiers without delay.

A wyvern! Shit. Everyone is tired. I have to try and stop it. At least long enough for everyone to retreat.

Theodore pulled himself up from the ground and stood in the front, taking a stance of his spear arts.

As the wyvern was about to ram Theodore head on, Gerald showed up in front of it and slammed it with the face of his greatsword. The wyvern crashed on the ground hard.

“You’ve done a good job, Theodore. Leave the rest to me.”

“C-captain.”

“You might want to take a step back. This will be the most intense fight you’ll ever see.” Said Gerald as he smirked.

The wyvern got back up as it shook the rubble off its lizard head.

*SCREEEECH*

“You’re excited too you wanna be dragon. Come.”

The wyvern swung its long thick tail. Its tail blurred as it hurtled towards Gerald at incredible speed. Gerald managed to block the attack with his greatsword but the force sent him crashing towards the wall.

*BOOM*

“That hurts, you stupid lizard.”

Gerald got up from the rubble as he patted the dust off himself. He smiled once more as he charged at the wyvern. Imbuing his sword with mana, he dragged his gigantic sword through the ground and threw the dust at the wyvern’s eyes. The wyvern was temporally blinded.

Gerald then slashed the wyvern on one of its legs. Red blood sprayed as it screeched out in anguish.

“Too shallow.”

The wyvern spread its wings and flew. Even though the dungeon was more like a cave, the wyvern managed to get enough room between itself and Gerald. It then opened its mouth and fire gushed out of it. The hurtling of a spiralling giant fireball clashed with Gerald’s greatsword.

He managed to redirect the wyvern’s fire ball to the wall of the dungeon. The dungeon shook due to the impact of the attack as if it would cave in on itself. He then took a stance.

“Chapter four of the book of swords: Vertical slash.”

Gerald released a powerful energy slash that managed to cut down the wyvern’s wing.

*SCEEEEEEECH*

The wyvern crashed down to the ground as a crater appeared where it had fallen.

It raised its head from the rubble and blasted fire breath at Gerald.

“Chapter six of the book of swords: Absolute defense.”

A barrier in the form of a sword appeared before him. The fire breath of the wyvern was blocked completely. A look of shock appeared on the wyvern’s face.

“It’s time to finish this. Chapter three of the book of swords: Horizontal slash.”

Gerald charged at the wyvern and swung his sword. Blood sprayed as the wyvern’s head thudded the ground. Gerald had just sliced it’s head off. The head of the wyvern rolled on the ground as the guards stood there in awe.

Gerald stood next to the fallen wyvern like a brave hero of legends. They couldn’t do anything but cheer.

***

Behind the guards at an unseen place. Michael is standing there observing the fight. He only mutters a few words.

“As expected from Gerald.”
