Monster Who Became Adventurers

Chapter 2 - I Tried Registering a Wolf as a Beast Demon

The Dire wolf stops in its tracks.

He turned his head slowly and stared at me with a doubtful look on his face.

Then I had an idea…

“I am a registered adventurer in human society and an official member of the Adventurers’ Guild. The Adventurers’ Guild has several rules, one of which is the beast demon Contract. One of the rules is the beast demon Contract, which simply means that you can assign demons to your fellow adventurers. Once a demon is registered as a beast demon, it is allowed to join human society.”

Direwolf looks astonished!

I guess he didn’t know, but I guess that’s not surprising.

“Hey, please tell me more about that story!

He excitedly wags his tail.

I explained the situation of adventurers working together with the beast demon, fulfilling requests, and working together with the beast demon.

There are stories of adventurers who hunt and scout for small animals with raptors such as hawks and tamers who have many dogs with them.

Some even have squirrels and crows as pets.

When you think about it, it’s surprisingly common. The hunter’s hound is a good example.

“Make me that beast demon too, please!”

“Yeah, sure, but can you promise me that you won’t touch humans except in special cases?”

“Of course, if I could eat good food every day, I would at least keep that promise!”

This wolf seems to have had quite a hard life.

“Alright, then let’s start with finding some Shiraito Grass. I need three clumps of it.”

“Wooooooooo~~~!”

Expressing his joy with all his might, the Direwolf ran deeper into the forest.

Having gathered the grass clumps, we headed for the city. It took a while at the city gates, but we eventually made it inside the city of Eldora.

The reason it took so long was that I had a wolf with me, but since many adventurers use wolf-kind as pets or as hunting dogs, it wasn’t much of a problem.

The city guard just told me to register as soon as possible.

As we walked through the city, the Direwolf scurried around the city, as he had rarely seen such a sight.

“I’ve never been in a human city before. I’ve raided an elven village before, but it wasn’t like this.”

“You’re saying quite a scary thing casually, aren’t you?”

As I walked through the city with the Direwolf by my side, it seemed that the city people were not particularly surprised to see a wolf beast demon. It didn’t stand out or draw much attention from them.

“I feel a little relieved.”

As someone who hides the fact that I am a werewolf, I don’t want to stand out too much.

First, I need to go to the Adventurers’ Guild and submit the quest.

Then I need to register this Direwolf as a pet.

It seems that the receptionist who takes the requests is quite popular, as there are many people crowded around, and she is handing out numbered tickets.

Since you typically need to bring the request to the guild receptionist, it looks like there’s no choice but to wait for a bit. After waiting for about half an hour, it’s finally my turn.

“Three clumps of Shiraito Grass you requested.”

Then, the receptionist gently patted my head with a smile.

“Well, well, you’ve done a great job, Rai-san! You’ve already completed the request. Wonderful, wonderful!” She praised me.

The Direwolf laughed and said, “You’re not being made fun of, right? You’re being praised, right?”

Humans are hard to understand, aren’t they?

“Also, I’d like to get this Direwolf registered as a beast demon; is that okay?”

“Yes, yes, is it a bird or maybe a mouse?”

“Is it okay if I call it here?”

“Sure~, introduce me to that cute little beastie!

I turn around and whistle at the Direwolf outside the entrance.

The wolf enters the guild hall, looking around curiously. As it approaches the reception desk with a rustle of the floorboards, its appearance resembles that of a fearsome beast demon rather than an adorable pet.

The receptionist’s expression freezes for a moment, and you can almost hear a “twitch” sound.

“Um, I’d like to register this creature as a beast-demon… please.”

“After I brought it up, the receptionist finally started to move.”

“Oh, um, s-so this is Rai-san beast demon… Th-then, I’d like to conduct a little test, if you don’t mind. I want to see if it will obey commands properly.”

“The receptionist says hesitantly, wanting to assess the behavior of the Direwolf.”

I see, that’s what it is.

“Okay. Then give me an order.”

Then she said it with a confused look.

“What, I can give the orders?”

Indeed, it should be fine since the Direwolf can understand human speech.

“Yes, please go ahead.”

“Well, then, sit down!”

For a moment, Direwolf seemed to think, “?  but it quickly understood and obediently sat down as commanded.

“Rai-san, you don’t have to do it, do you?”

I’m sorry. I sat down reflexively!

“Ha-ha-ha, I just got carried away and let my instincts take over.”

“Instincts?… Well, never mind. Next, lie down!”

Again, the Direwolf thought, “?” but reacted immediately and laid down on the spot.

“Uh, Rai-san?”

Oh no, I guess I got down too!

“Haha, hahahaha, just kidding, just kidding. You got me there!”

Well, it seems like that’s enough for now. It appears that the Direwolf’s behavior is satisfactory.

“Oh, so you’ve decided on a name?”

Oh, yeah, I’m supposed to give it a name, too.

“Hey, what about your name? What did they call you?”

Then Dire Wolf looked at me and replied.

“I don’t have a name. They just called me Chief. You can call me whatever you want.”

“Since you don’t have a name, I’m going to call you Dai.”

When I said that, she rolled her eyes.

“Rai-san? Did you just have a conversation with that demon…?”

Did I do something wrong?
