Monster Lord: The Goblin Offers the Saintess to Me at the Start

Chapter 63: Vikalina's Collapse

Vikalina's expression was stiff, but Sivis remained silent.

He pressed the female knight against the wall. Despite her armor, Sivis could barely feel the warmth of her body, yet a faint, delicate fragrance lingered in his nostrils. The tight armor accentuated her graceful curves, which were clearly discernible.

Recalling Vikalina's usual demeanor of sacred nobility.

A sense of blasphemous pleasure rose within Sivis.

"The flavor of a female knight is different from Werner's."

"The true blasphemy is still waiting for me in the territory.

He couldn't help but think of Saint, who had been force-fed various drugs. Now, it was just like having a meal replacement.

Sivis should not be tempted by beauty,

but the allure of women like Vikalina and Werner went beyond their perfect bodies, it was their radiant souls that truly captivated him.

The female knight was unaware of the thoughts of those around her. Her entire attention was focused on the house, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Inside the house, the two disabled men fell silent for a moment before suddenly roaring, "You worry about not being able to enter Lord Sivis's territory, but in your hearts, you know his kindness means he won't abandon you!"

"But what about us? The Church Knight Order won't stay in the city forever. Once that female knight leaves, we'll be kicked out immediately!"

"Only Lord Sivis treats us with leniency. Others look at us with eyes that wish to kill us for freeloading. Even if we wanted to go to his territory, could we manage in our condition?"

"How long will this small amount of money last? When you all go to enjoy your lives, we'll be left here to die!" The two men grew more and more agitated, even getting out of bed and standing in the center of the dormitory, roaring.

The other civilians had initially wanted to intervene but now fell silent.

Faced with these "unlucky souls." they didn't know how to offer comfort.

They were familiar with these two and felt that their luck was truly terrible, wondering how they had attracted the attention of the Church.

Yet, with so many workers outside, some were extremely resentful of the two men for freeloading.

At that moment, Sivis felt the female knight beneath him begin to tremble, the trembling growing more intense. She seemed to want to say something but was also trying to suppress the urge to speak.

Suddenly, the two disabled men stood up, "Forget it! I'm going to find the foreman. Even without pay, I'll work!"

The other civilians hurried to stop them, "Don't cause trouble for the management! Don't put Lord Sivis in a difficult position! That female knight is from the Church. Even if Mr. Sivis is kind, she could force him to act!"

"If you insist on working and anger her, the Church's hypocrites won't say anything to your face, but they'll definitely cause trouble for Lord Sivis behind his back! Isn't that ungrateful?"

The disabled men's actions froze, and the others continued with red eyes, "Don't forget, Lord Sivis didn't cause your situation! How can you drag him down with you?"

Reality hit them like a cold shower, and the two men stiffened, ultimately collapsing to their knees, their bloodshot eyes filled with pain, "Damn it! That bitch! Why is she doing this to us? Just because of her so-called kindness, she's making it impossible for us to live! She's a damn animal!"

They vented their anger freely — Sivis's temporary residence was clean but far less grand than the church.

The two men were convinced that the "hypocritical" female knight would never come to such a place.

While the other civilians didn't dare to openly offend the Church, they were also influenced by the emotion and began to curse along:

"The Church is full of nothing but bad people! They either openly harm us or put on a fake show of kindness!"

"My relative once followed a Saint-in-training named Werner on a tour. He just tripped and fell in front of the Saint, and the Knight Order almost killed him, thinking he was an assassin!"

"That Saint said a few nice words on the surface, but my relative disappeared afterward. Who knows if he was secretly harmed by the Church!"

"I have a friend..."

"I know someone..."

Amid the cacophony of crude curses, the civilians' most sincere hatred was evident — they all loathed the Church with a deep, visceral anger.

These people could also imagine that there were a few good people in the Church, but their existence was meaningless. They still caused the civilians to suffer losses, even at the cost of their lives.

Sivis felt the female knight beneath him grow increasingly stiff, trembling uncontrollably, as if she had been dealt a severe blow.

His hand pressed on her shoulder, and he suddenly felt a drop of warm, wet liquid — Vikalina was silently crying. She was shedding tears while desperately trying to suppress her body, refusing to make a sound.

Sivis watched her trembling eyelashes and tightly bitten lower lip, and suddenly felt a pang of sympathy.

He realized that Vikalina was just a girl around Reina's age.

The young maid often appeared naive and innocent by his side, while Vikalina, despite her training in the Church, was still inexperienced in the world. Her knowledge and experiences were even less than Reina's, who had been influenced by him. At her core, she was still a pure and innocent young girl.

Vikalina was not the strong character from a game, who, after experiencing betrayal and pain, firmly raised the Sacred Flame Spear against the world's ugliness.

At this moment, she was witnessing her own kindness being twisted into "hypocrisy" and hearing the most venomous curses from those she had once helped.

The hateful words cut into her heart like knives, and Vikalina could only bite her lip tightly to prevent herself from sobbing.

"She's just a child."

"And a good child."

"Is it too cruel of me to show her this scene?"

Sivis remembered their first meeting, when Vikalina's knight spear, burning with flame, gleamed in the holy light, and her eyes were filled with the passion to "save all beings."

At that time, she must have believed that as long as she had a kind heart, she could heal the world's suffering.

And before that, when Vikalina took the initiative to help the two disabled men, stepping forward with her necklace, wanting to assist the civilians.

Her eyes were confused, but also determined.

Vikalina didn't know what was the right thing to do, but she moved forward bravely.

And just moments ago.

The female knight still had a plan.

Now, everything was shattered.

Vikalina sobbed uncontrollably, and she could hardly stand, letting Sivis hold her in his arms.

Reality was too cruel — the disabled people she had helped with all her savings were now venting their anger on Vikalina out of fear for their future.

The female knight might have anticipated being misunderstood and attacked, but she never thought she would be so genuinely and rationally hated by those she had helped!

Vikalina could accept being hated by those she helped because of misunderstandings, or because she hadn't done enough.

What she couldn't bear to believe was that her help was a complete mistake, a joke!

Vikalina looked up, her tear-filled eyes meeting Sivis's gaze.

"Cry." the young nobleman whispered, "no one is watching here."

The female knight stared at Sivis, her eyes red-rimmed. She held her head high, looking determined.

Tears fell in large drops, and Vikalina bit her lower lip hard, her sobs carrying a stubborn note, which made Sivis's heart ache.

Sivis sighed. "They're not targeting you."

"They're just driven mad by life."

Vikalina lifted her head, tears still clinging to her lashes. "But I really... wanted to help them..."

"I know." Sivis said softly. "You're not a hypocrite."

"That's why you're in such pain.

Inside the house, the civilians' curses continued.

Vikalina was taken aback, struggling to understand Sivis's words.

What does it mean, I'm not a hypocrite?

Everything I've done is meaningless, just self-satisfaction. Isn't that hypocrisy?

Seeing the confusion in the female knight's eyes, Sivis began to explain slowly. "Fundamentally, all acts of kindness toward others are for self-satisfaction. It's the same for everyone."

"However, some people genuinely want to help others in the process of satisfying themselves, while others only care about their own momentary happiness. You are clearly the former — you genuinely want to help those disabled people, not just to satisfy your own desire to do good and then ignore them."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the civilians still arguing in the room. "You brought me here today to show me how the weak workers can't keep up due to overwork, hoping I would improve their conditions, right? But what was the result?"

Sivis truly didn't think Vikalina was at fault. Even good deeds have their limits.

Before he came to this world, most people who fed stray cats and dogs did so with good intentions, but that didn't stop the result from being the decimation of countless birds and the proliferation of stray animals.

The fact that Vikalina could reflect on herself already made her an exceptionally sincere and good person.

Still... Vikalina continued to sob.

Having dropped her usual cold facade, she leaned against Sivis's chest, depending on him.

Vikalina no longer had her own resolve, waiting for Sivis to comfort her.

Her entire heart hung on this young nobleman.

After his words, Vikalina nodded, feeling a bit better.

Somehow, she felt strangely comfortable and content in this state of dependence on Sivis.

Sivis began to explain slowly, starting with an economic perspective to analyze why various civilian families needed work to mitigate risks.

Why was Vikalina's assistance not sustainable?

This was not her fault, but rather the result of the Church's accumulated reputation over countless years, and the current world's production capacity was insufficient to support a group of disabled people without any work.

The female knight's expression became increasingly strange. At first, she was listening to Sivis with the hope that he would comfort her.

Vikalina was not a fool, she wouldn't completely collapse and abandon her ideals just because of one failure, nor would she blindly follow Sivis.

But...

The content and knowledge Sivis was sharing...

It was overwhelming Vikalina.
