Chapter 099 | The Supremacy of the Strongest
Below the Headquarters of the SIGIL Fourth Division was the Court of Justice, where the tribunal of two Paragons would be held. It was crowded with officials and military officers alike.
After all, this was the first in the history of the Federation.
From the nearby stands, the Four Paragons who attended the tribunal gazed upon the court with varied expressions. Some were stern, and a few were intrigued.
The Chief Justice of the Federation slammed his hammer, silencing the conversing crowd. They turned their attention towards the judges, who announced the beginning of the tribunal.
A couple of guards entered the court as the two indicted Paragons followed from behind. A gorgeous lady sauntered through the hall, her white hair fluttering.
Beside her was another beautiful lady, embraced by the cold judgment. Arrogance radiated from her, as though she saw them as nothing more than pests.
These were the two accused Paragons, the fifth and the seventh.
The Chief Justice frowned and slammed the hammer once again. Now that the tribunal had officially begun, the prosecutors laid several charges of crimes against humanity against the two Paragons.
Starting with the destruction of the SIGIL Headquarters, ending with the massacre of thousands of civilians in the northern fringes.
Gasps echoed from the background, astounded to hear what the Paragons had done. But they were nothing more than stage actors, designed to fool the ignorant.
The Paragons nearby furrowed their eyebrows, unable to believe the words that escaped the mouth of the Chief Justice.
On the other hand, the fourth Paragon seemed unbothered, aloof from the circumstance his former colleagues were facing.
The Chief Justice slammed the hammer, calming the court. He looked at the two Paragons and questioned them. "Are you guilty of these crimes, Alastair Glass and Jane Doe?"
When such words echoed throughout the hall. All attention was pointed towards the two indicted Paragons. Alastair glanced around, observing her surroundings.
She then sighed in disappointment, as though the things she had done were all for naught.
"They were much more careful than I expected. Well, they wouldn't have gone unnoticed if they weren't this cautious." Alastair muttered under her breath.
"So, our waiting was all for nothing, huh? That humiliating jail cell resulted in nothing." Jane Doe also sighed as someone like her wouldn't have tolerated anything.
The only reason she did was to get the snakes in the background to reveal themselves from the shadows.
After all, unlike the SIGIL, the infiltrators in the Federation were much more entrenched and rooted in the government.
It made them problematic to handle as it would shake the foundation of a nation that hadn't reached its second decade.
The federal government would also lose the trust of its citizens.
Especially when some of its highest members were related to the Shadow Division and the Abominable Cult, a percentage of the population would accuse the Federation of the destruction the Aberrants left behind.
"Yes, I did all those things. But I am not guilty of it. That would mean I regretted my actions." Alastair shook her head, lips curling into a grin.
"This farce shall end now..." Her pearl-like eyes became cold as she glared at everyone within the court. "The Shadow Division."
"The traitors who rebelled against the formation of the Federation and the SIGIL. Amongst all of you are infiltrators. Those who resist will be considered as such."
The words of the seventh Paragon echoed throughout the court, provoking outrage from those participating within it. The Chief Justice slammed the hammer, calming the chaos.
"Do you have evidence for this?"
Alastair narrowed her pearl-like gaze and questioned. "Why would I need it? It appears that all of you have been blinded by politics and bureaucracy."
"Can any of you stop me? Do you dare?" Rarely did she wield her power in a dominating manner, but that didn't mean she wouldn't do so.
The reason why the Federation formed and didn't fracture into several warlord states was that it threatened the utter destruction of seceding states.
It wasn't for the Federation, but for humanity to be unified in one banner. A divided species wouldn't do well against the Clan. Sooner or later, the fractured states would be absorbed by the vampires.
Alastair turned her attention towards the Paragons nearby. "It appears that some of you forgot about how things go with me."
"Or did you believe that these lousy cuffs can shackle me?" Every cuff within the vicinity shattered into pieces, her presence disintegrating them into nothingness.
"You know how I act upon things. I will finish it. When I decided to destroy every facet of the traitorous bunch. I shall do so, regardless of what any of you think."
A sense of oppression pervaded the court, escalating the tensions between the strongest and those beneath her.
"You just can't wave your power without consequence." The fourth Paragon had finally spoken, attracting the gaze of the gorgeous white-haired lady.
"Oh, so you're now trying to reign me in, huh?" Alastair tilted her head and smirked. "What do you think happened to those who dared to?"
She walked towards him, her pearl-like eyes coldly glaring at the fourth Paragon. Observing him from top to bottom, she remarked. "You have been living well on the West Coast."
"Of course-" Before he could utter more, Alastair punched him in the face, tossing him onto the ground. The Paragons nearby didn't help him as they gave way to the seventh.
The fourth Paragon fell silent as he lay on the ground like a beaten wife. The Chief Justice and the politicians participating in the tribunal were beyond astounded.
Their confidence stemmed from the fact that they had the backing of the fourth Paragon. But to think that he would be easily reigned in by the seventh.
The young man clenched his fist and gritted his teeth, but the third Paragon warned. "Don't do it... Otherwise, you'll die."
Dread flooded into his heart, recalling how many the White Devil had exterminated during the revolution. Whether it'd be vampires or metahumans alike, all were but lambs for slaughter.
"All of you are goddamn animals. What are you, monkeys? Do I need to pummel you down every time I see your face?" Alastair glared at the Paragons, who remained silent.
"Insolent bastards..." The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. The gorgeous white-haired lady felt a hand grab her shoulders and noticed the sixth Paragon's shaking head.
"The seventh Paragon has spoken. Remnants of the Shadow Division have infiltrated both SIGIL and the Federation. They have entrenched themselves within the federal government."
"The so-called massacre in the north was nothing more than thousands of cultists belonging to the Abominable Cult." Jane Doe expounded to the Paragons.
"It appears that the Shadow Division and the Abominable Cult have allied themselves under one banner. Their threat level isn't significantly high against us."
"But their damage against humanity might be exponential, capable of plunging our species into a new dark age." After the explanation of the fifth Paragon, Alastair stepped forward.
"I want you to return to your duties. Protect our borders from any incursions, and let me handle the internal affairs. Do your jobs and I'll do mine." The seventh Paragon walked away,
She didn't want to see the faces of those bastards, who became weak through time. It was disappointing and saddening at the same time.
During the tyrannical reign of the Clan, all of them had aspirations to become guardians of humankind. But when they became the victors of the revolution, almost everyone changed.
Instead of ensuring that humanity becomes stronger and dominates the New World, borders were drawn in the name of temporary peace.
Shaking her head, Alastair decided to handle the troubles before her. Francine was currently gone, dealing with past affairs.
If the results ended in the death of the sixth Paragon, she needed to be there for her partner. After all, hyenas would be swarming towards her once news spread.
The thought of her partner being defeated didn't even surface within her mind. She understood the capabilities of the Rogue Blade the most.
Francine wasn't her second-in-command without a good reason. Alastair acknowledges her partner's potential to become unrivalled like her.
As she walked through the underground hall outside of the court, the ceilings shook as a rumbling reverberated above ground. Her pearl-like eyes squinted.
Alastair's displeased mood lightened as her supple lips curved into a smile. Here she was, wondering where her subordinates had gone. It looks like they were planning to go big.
The Headquarters of the Fourth Division was in chaos as several military vehicles transformed into sentient robots and started destroying armaments and depots throughout the area.
The Jaegers of Block 4 fought back, but the quantity of adversaries they faced alongside the peculiar landscape of the battlefield made resistance difficult.
Damien smiled at the sight and blinked from the rooftop, mingling with the crowd of fighting Jaegers. It didn't take long before he entered the headquarters of Block 4, unimpeded.
The art of chaos was truly exquisite.
