Chapter 63: Cultural Festival Planning (63)

The buzzing energy of the school corridors was unmistakable. Posters announcing the upcoming cultural festival were plastered on every available surface, bright and colorful, each proclaiming: "Cultural Festival: Three Weeks to Go!" Students bustled about, chattering animatedly about their ideas for booths, performances, and events.

Haruto walked to class with Aiko, both clutching the announcement sheets handed out that morning. "So, what's our class doing this year?" Haruto asked, scanning the list of suggested activities.

Aiko, already brimming with excitement, beamed. "We get to decide today! I hope it's something creative. Maybe an art gallery or a themed café?"

"Knowing our class, it'll probably be something over-the-top," Haruto joked, picturing their classmates' ambitious ideas.

As they entered their classroom, the chatter was already deafening. The class representative, Riku, stood at the front with a notepad, attempting to calm the chaos. "Alright, everyone! Let's settle down and get started!"

The students reluctantly quieted, though the energy remained high. "We need to pick our main event for the cultural festival," Riku announced. "Any suggestions?"

Hands shot up immediately.

"How about a haunted house?" one student suggested.

"A cosplay café!" another countered.

"What about a talent show? Everyone could participate!"

The ideas kept coming—some realistic, others wildly imaginative. Aiko raised her hand, her eyes sparkling. "How about an interactive art gallery? We could showcase paintings, sketches, and sculptures, and maybe have a section where visitors can create their own art!"

"That's so you, Aiko," Haruto teased, though his tone was affectionate.

Aiko nudged him with a grin. "What's wrong with that?"

Riku jotted down every suggestion, then turned back to the class. "Okay, we'll vote on these. Everyone, write down your top three choices."

As the votes were tallied, the class waited in suspense. Aiko tapped her pencil against her desk, leaning toward Haruto. "What did you vote for?"

"Haunted house, talent show, and…" He paused for dramatic effect. "Your art gallery idea."

Aiko's face lit up. "Really?"

"Yeah," Haruto said with a shrug. "It sounds fun. Plus, you'd be amazing at it."

Before Aiko could respond, Riku cleared his throat. "The results are in! And the winner is…" He paused, enjoying the suspense. "The interactive art gallery!"

Cheers erupted around the room. Aiko looked thrilled, her hands clasped together. "We're going to make it amazing!"

Planning began immediately. The class split into committees: design, logistics, publicity, and operations. Haruto found himself on the logistics team with Riku, tasked with figuring out how to set up the gallery space and manage the flow of visitors. Aiko, naturally, joined the design team, sketching out ideas for the layout and decorations.

During lunch, Haruto found Aiko hunched over her sketchbook, surrounded by a small group of classmates. She was explaining her vision: sections for paintings, a sculpture corner, and an area for visitors to try their hand at drawing or crafting.

"And we can use string lights to make it feel cozy and magical," Aiko added, her excitement infectious.

"That sounds amazing," Haruto said, sitting down beside her.

"Thanks! What about your team? Any big challenges yet?"

"Just figuring out where to get enough display stands and how to keep things organized," Haruto replied. "But we'll manage."

Over the next few days, the classroom became a hive of activity. The design team painted backdrops and crafted decorations, transforming the space into a whimsical gallery. Aiko's artistic touch was evident in every detail, from the hand-drawn signs to the delicate floral motifs adorning the walls.

Meanwhile, Haruto and Riku scoured the school for supplies, borrowing easels from the art room and stacking chairs for makeshift display stands. Haruto found himself more invested in the project than he'd expected, partly because of Aiko's enthusiasm.

"You're really into this, huh?" Riku remarked one afternoon as they carried a pile of canvases.

Haruto chuckled. "Yeah, I guess I am. Aiko's got a way of making things seem worth it."

Riku raised an eyebrow but didn't comment, though his knowing smile said enough.

As the festival approached, the pressure mounted. One afternoon, Aiko called Haruto over to the art room, where she was finishing a centerpiece for the gallery: a painting of their school beneath a sky full of cherry blossoms.

"What do you think?" she asked, stepping back to reveal the nearly completed work.

Haruto stared at the painting, impressed. The vibrant colors and intricate details brought the scene to life. "It's incredible. Visitors are going to love it."

Aiko smiled, her cheeks pink. "Thanks. It's a little nerve-wracking, though, putting something so personal on display."

"You've got nothing to worry about," Haruto assured her. "You're amazing."

Finally, the day before the festival arrived. The class stayed late to set up, arranging displays and adding final touches. By the time they finished, the gallery was breathtaking, a blend of creativity and teamwork.

As Haruto and Aiko stood together, surveying the transformed classroom, Aiko sighed contentedly. "We did it."

"Yeah," Haruto said, smiling at her. "Now we just have to hope people show up."

"They will," Aiko said confidently. "And even if they don't, we've already made something special."

Haruto nodded, feeling a quiet pride in what they'd accomplished together.
