Mist Empire’s Rise: Fake Noble to Fog Queen

Chapter 153: Gladys’s Brother

"Because you're strong," Yage gazed at Luo Wei with bright brown eyes. "You're amazing, I want to follow you."

She looked so clever - despite being physically weak, she could command so many people to work for her. That's exactly what a Sage would do!

Yage dreamed of becoming a Sage, but he hadn't received the blessing of the God of Wisdom. Luo Wei lived the life he imagined, which made him deeply envious.

"Little one," Luo Wei imitated a domineering boss, smirking mysteriously, "You're not qualified to follow me yet."

Yage protested indignantly: "I'm smart!"

"What use is being smart? Haven't you heard that brute force trumps all?" Luo Wei pointed at Troy, "When you can defeat him, then you'll be qualified to follow me."

Yage looked at Troy, carefully memorizing his appearance: "Hmph, I will definitely defeat you!"

Troy: "???"

He was just standing there minding his own business, how did he end up getting involved?

Seeing Troy's wronged expression, Luo Wei chose to be selectively blind: "Hurry up, Troy, take them back. We need to return after that."

Troy: "...Understood."

He grabbed Yage by the scruff of his neck and tossed him onto the griffin's back.

"Brat, sit tight."

Troy jumped onto the griffin, tied the six children together with a rope, blew his bone whistle, and took off into the sky.

The griffin cast a reluctant glance at the polar bear - since its master hadn't started playing yet, it felt awkward about eating.

"Chirp chirp chirp..."

Save some for me, I'll come back to eat and play later!

The polar bear's fur puffed up in fear like a sea urchin. Whimper whimper, how scary - not only did they want to play with it, but they also wanted to eat it. Was this something humans would do?

Well, the griffin wasn't human either.

The polar bear became even more terrified, keeping its head buried and not daring to peek out for a long time.

"Gal, Belial, go prepare dinner," Luo Wei said calmly. "Remember to prepare a portion for the little wolf too, heat up two beef patties."

"Yes, Master." Gal and Belial hurried off to cook.

"Yves, take the carriage inside the city gates, find a sheltered spot to protect them from the wind."

"Chris, clean out a stone house, we'll sleep there tonight."

"Yes, Master," Chris and Yves answered in unison.

As the four slaves began their assigned tasks, Luo Wei returned to the carriage and carried Gladys out.

"Shh, stay quiet, just pretend to be a little wolf."

"Awoo~" The little wolf let out a tender howl.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Winter days in the tundra were terrifyingly short - darkness fell in the blink of an eye.

Luo Wei carried Gladys into the stone house that Chris had cleaned, lay down on the soft cashmere cushions, and closed her eyes.

Deep in the night, as the northern wind howled outside, a group of travelers followed a scent trail into the ice crevasse.

"Young Master, it's just ahead," a shifty-looking man said to the white-haired youth sitting on the ice wolf sled at the front.

"Are you sure?" The white-haired youth stared at the stone castle in the distance with disbelief. "Wasn't my sister supposed to have fled south? Why would she come to Stone City in the east?"

The shifty-looking man respectfully replied, "Your humble servant is not certain, but the Young Miss's scent definitely leads here."

The silver-haired youth frowned in thought for a moment before raising his hand to command: "Everyone, dismount the sleds. Enter the city on foot, and make no sound."

"Yes, Young Master!" A dozen subordinates responded in unison.

Under cover of darkness, the group stealthily infiltrated Stone City and began searching the dense cluster of stone houses one by one, looking for their escaped Young Miss.

The polar bear, confined in the adjacent stone house, was the first to hear the movement. It anxiously patted the wall with its paws, warning its master that enemies had arrived.

In the pitch-black stone house next door, the little wolf was snuggled warmly in Luo Wei's embrace. Hearing the noise, it covered its ears with its snow-white paws.

Who's making all that noise? So annoying!

Gladys grumbled before turning over and falling back into deep sleep.

Luo Wei was awakened by her movement, her keen ears catching the rustling sounds from outside.

Someone's here!

She snapped her eyes open, quickly grabbing her magic wand with her right hand, her gaze sharp as she looked toward the stone house window.

The clouds parted, allowing a ray of moonlight to pierce through.

In the faint moonlight, Luo Wei saw a slender shadow standing outside the stone house door.

The shadow bent slightly, as if peering inside.

Luo Wei narrowed her eyes, got up from the bed, gripping her magic wand in her right hand and drawing a sharp dagger with her left as she approached.

"Is that you, Yves?"

She called out deliberately, and in the moment the person outside hesitated, she thrust her dagger forward.

"Clang!"

A metallic ring rang out as a sword pierced through the windbreak cloth Chris had carefully hung up. Luo Wei's dagger clashed with the opponent's sword, producing a clear ringing sound.

Through the torn cloth's narrow gap, Luo Wei saw a face that bore a seventy percent resemblance to Gladys's.

She paused: "You are...?"

The other person reacted even faster, immediately withdrawing his sword and apologizing with a hand to his chest: "My apologies, beautiful lady, for disturbing your rest."

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Reginald, the Young Master of the Ice Wolf tribe. I'm here looking for my sister, Gladys. Have you seen her by any chance?"

"Gladys?" Luo Wei glanced back at the silver wolf sprawled across her bed, her tone peculiar, "She's in my bed. Are you here to capture her?"

"No, no, no," Reginald denied repeatedly, "I'm just worried about her safety and wanted to check on her."

Luo Wei pulled aside the cloth and stepped out, lighting a flame with her magic wand in her right hand: "You're her brother?"

Seeing her action, Reginald looked surprised: "My lady, are you...?"

"I'm Luo Wei, her classmate," Luo Wei paused, "and her friend."

Reginald's face showed relief: "Gladys has mentioned you. Thank you, Luo Wei, for being willing to be friends with Gladys."

"Gladys is straightforward and lovely. It's my honor to be her friend," Luo Wei said modestly.

Reginald shook his head: "I still must thank you, Miss Luo Wei. Gladys isn't very good with words, and the children in our tribe often end up crying because of her. None of her peers like to talk to her."

"After all these years, you're the first friend she's ever mentioned voluntarily. Thank you for accepting her."

"It's nothing," Luo Wei shook her head, studying Reginald with curious eyes, "You don't seem as fierce as Gladys described. You care about her, so why don't you tell her?"

Reginald sighed: "Gladys is afraid of me, and I can't blame her. We were originally twins, but there was an accident when our mother gave birth to us..."

Reginald and Gladys's mother was a strong-willed woman who would still go hunting with a spear even when she was ten months pregnant.

One day, after successfully catching a snow rabbit, their mother suddenly experienced labor pains and collapsed in the snow, giving birth to two babies.

Reginald was a normal infant, but Gladys was born as a small wolf, having awakened the Ice Wolf tribe's special bloodline and reverting to an ancestral form.

However, their mother didn't know she was carrying twins. In her dazed state after giving birth, she thought she had only given birth to Reginald.

After picking up Reginald, she noticed a hairless wolf pup lying nearby and assumed some ice wolf had abandoned its cub to her.
