Chapter 51: Another Girl Chasing the Light
Sunshine filtered through the semi-transparent oval domed windows, falling upon the quiet library. The walls were lined with bookshelves, decorated with various covers and catalogs, as if countless times were peacefully slumbering within.
In the central area beneath the dome of this library, a young girl who appeared about 18 years old lay on a clean carpet. She had graceful, pure white wings on her back, each feather distinctly visible and occasionally moving as she turned. These were not crude imitations or decorations but a genuine part of her body.
From time to time, she would lightly leap up from the ground, landing on a suspended swing chair, then perusing the book in her hand. When she felt bored or drowsy, she would lean back and fall asleep in that swing chair.
The window's sunlight slowly rose and gradually set, casting the semi-transparent oval domed windows into patches of orange-red light. Some of these spots fell on her, tinting her silver snow-like hair and wings until the sunlight faded, and a gray, cold dusk fell. The library was then illuminated only by the faint starlight descending from the sky, revealing the silhouette of the sleeping girl.
Day after day passed like this until one afternoon when the stillness of the library was broken. Another young woman with golden hair flew in, and she too had feathery wings, familiar with this place.
"Celestia, you're still here," she called out as she flew to the swing chair.
"It's time to wake up. Recently, the Peeping Star Department discovered something new."
The sleeping girl awoke, revealing golden pupils beneath her silver snow-like hair, as beautiful as amber.
"A new change?" Her voice, slightly distorted from long periods of silence, quickly adjusted.
"Yes, on the land, at the southwestern corner of the North Continent, a new special observation target was discovered. It's very special." Seeing her interest, the golden-haired girl was delighted.
"Come with me, the Peeping Star Department recorded a lot. Although the satellite images aren't very clear, they reveal quite a bit."
The two left the tranquil library, and outside, there was a kingdom among the clouds. Various-sized floating islands connected by walkways. Not only were there buildings atop, but also tall trees, some structures even transformed from giant trees. Amid the tender green leaves and hanging vines, transparent glass windows were half-hidden. Occasionally, figures like theirs could be seen flying between islands, all with pure white wings and beautiful appearances, seemingly favored children of the divine.
Silver Wings, that was their name. Their appearance and form were almost identical to the angels from ancient myths.
Contrary to everyone's imagination, this world indeed had an extremely advanced civilization. They followed their own order, had a flourishing technological culture, and a cloud-bound kingdom, all unknown to the races busy on the ground.
Their wings opened, as if small points in a gradually unfolding beautiful painting, navigating through the magnificent and beautiful floating islands. They crossed the beautiful floating bridges standing silent in the wind, flew over artfully decorated circular theaters, weaved between tall trees, brushing past unique flying birds, eventually settling down inside a white building from its top.
The place resembled an observatory magnified many times over, with advanced telescopes in the high space aimed at the windowed world outside; some focused on the endless sky and star sea, while others were slightly lowered, targeting the earth and oceans below.
The Peeping Star Space was within the Silver Wings' Silver Bird Court, a primary external observatory structure.
When the two landed, two white floating platforms automatically rose, supporting their feet, gradually stabilizing them, then delivering them to the data management library below, where many Silver Wings were working. They favored white fabric, simple yet showing a strong sense of design. Similar outfits always had individual differences; some restructured collar and sleeve edges, others added different silver floral patterns at the corners.
"Good afternoon, Celestia." Someone recognized the girl from the library and waved with a smile.
"Good afternoon," Celestia replied, her light golden amber eyes darting around, lively and cute.
"Hehe, you must be looking for information on that special observation target that appeared recently. I knew without anything captivating, you wouldn't come out of the library." The other members laughed good-naturedly and then guided Celestia, letting her sit in a small teacup chamber. A screen unfolded, beginning to display satellite images and footage.
That was the night at the Wolf Blood Camp when it was attacked by the Mechanical Clan. Various battles occurred, but the most captivating moment was the later appearance of that silver-grey-haired girl. She effortlessly defeated the Wolf Blood Queen and the Mechanical Flying Cockroach plaguing the camp with a silver Holy Sword.
Since it was satellite footage, many details weren't clear. Moreover, from the distant viewpoint, it was impossible to discern how this girl wielded such unprecedented powerful secret technique abilities.
"Initially, we suspected a fellow species descended to the ground, forgot the rule restrictions, and rashly interfered with the ground environment. However, after checking all records, we found she wasn't a Silver Wing; the traces of some secret technique revealed differences from us."
