Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 37: The Silkworm Moth Species of Kin

At night, the caravan stayed temporarily in this settlement that had lost its owner. No matter what, sleeping in a house is far more comfortable than making do on a carriage.

Here, Tilan took a rather comfortable hot bath. After soaking, she changed into a breathable and comfortable nightdress and sat by the fire pit in the hall, flipping through some of the books and records originally stored here. Although the contents were recorded quite chaotically, there were some interesting parts.

The charcoal fire was dark red, and the dim lighting on the ceiling of the hall was actually suitable for reading. Some members of the caravan were playing ball and walking outside, some were preparing food in the kitchen, and others were counting the stored items and supplies here.

While leisure reading the loosely bound booklets in her hand, Tilan took a clean apple and nibbled at it, occasionally stopping to look at the ceiling of the hall and the surrounding arrangements, zoning out for a moment.

After a while, Moli and another Fox-tail Species brought the freshly bathed Orenna up from the basement.

At this point, she had already changed into a clean white cotton long dress, with a simple strap tied at the waist to fit her body, and the back of the dress had a V-shaped opening for her to expose her wings.

Upon seeing Tilan, Orenna was somewhat happy; the moth wings on her back fluttered, though such wings could only flutter a few times, insufficient to lift her into the air, and the shift in balance nearly made her trip while jogging.

For quite a while, Orenna, somewhat nervous yet eagerly anticipating, approached Tilan. But she was not very talkative, simply kneeling on the sofa beside Tilan and waiting for the young woman to speak to her.

In response, Tilan had to put down the books in her hand, sit up slightly, and then turn around to first inquire of Moli.

"Did you notice anything while bathing her, like wounds or other problems?"

"There is a rather long wound on the back of her left leg, and there's a branding with letter and number markings on her shoulder. Everything else is in pretty good condition." Hearing Moli talk about the wound on her leg, Orenna lowered her head slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed as she was considered a flawed product.

"How did the wound come about?" Tilan glanced at Orenna who was sitting with her head down.

"I was too clumsy as a child and accidentally fell and scraped myself on something sharp." Orenna explained worriedly, fearing this would cause Tilan to reject her.

"May I take a look?"

"I'll show you." Orenna carefully supported herself on the sofa, then turned and bent over, pulling up the hem of her dress to reveal the long scar running from the back of her left knee to the side and back of her thigh.

"This doesn't look like something caused by a fall." Tilan examined closely, her foundational knowledge of human medicine was very solid.

"It was caused by falling from a height and being caught on some protruding sharp corner." Orenna continued to explain.

"How did you climb so high?" Tilan asked casually.

"Because I was playing with everyone." Orenna showed a somewhat nostalgic expression.

Then she slowly started recounting the past, it turned out Orenna wasn't originally from this settlement, but grew up in another one. There, they had several Silkworm Moth Species; Orenna was still young, about seven or eight years old, and too young to do any work, but she was very obedient, so the people in the settlement let her accompany other children to play.

Of course, while they called it accompanying play, she was actually treated as a toy by the settlement's kids because the Silkworm Moth Species had a very low status and they never resisted.

Even though she was often bullied and teased by everyone, when Orenna recalled it, she still considered it a happy time. Because she could run everywhere with everyone and there was always someone talking to her every day. After playing, although she had to wash clothes for all the other kids, she was still very happy because she was needed.

Over the years, when Orenna was around fourteen, although the Silkworm Moth species had low status, they were almost all pureblood, and their appearance and outward beauty had been maintained at a high standard since the first generation. By then, Orenna had grown very pretty, and many young people in the settlement wanted to possess her. Fortunately, the leader noticed this early and locked her up.

"Since then, I've lived in a cage, occasionally someone would bring me food, and I would spend my time in the cage making crafts and sewing clothes for everyone."

"Though the cage wasn't very big, I got used to it and it was nice. I could use my fallen feathers to weave a very warm little nest."

"But since then, very few people came to talk to me, and I have no idea where my former companions went."

"About two years passed like this, then the leader found a buyer willing to pay a high price, and I was sold. Because I was still a virgin, I was quite valuable." Orenna pondered for a moment, her wings fluttering slightly.

"Though he was still a bit regretful, saying if my leg didn't have a scar, I'd be considered top quality, and he could send me to the Wolf Blood King Camp for auction."

"I'm very sorry to the leader for not protecting myself when I was younger."

Upon hearing this, Tilan patted her head to console her, then asked, "Do you like the leader and the people of that settlement?"

"I do, they raised me since I was little and taught me many things like reading, crafts, and accompanied me by talking."

"Ah... what a good child." Tilan sighed.

"And then after that, what happened?"

"The master of the new settlement bought me and originally planned to keep me as a prize for the person with the greatest war achievements, but later they lost in battle, and the settlement was conquered, so I was brought over here."
