Chapter 34: The Charming Fox-tail Species Leader (Part 2)
"Are you a passing caravan?" The other party seemed skeptical but did not make a move. The young Fox-tail Species members following her were still somewhat frightened, gripping their firearms anxiously, fingers nervously resting on the triggers.
"Yes, we are just passing by. We were wondering if you might be interested in some exchange of goods." Guy stepped forward to negotiate.
The other party glanced at the goods they were hauling, their gaze lingering slightly.
"We do indeed need some goods. We just captured a lot of spoils from the Wolf Blood Species. If you're interested in buying their corpses, we can offer a discount."
"Ahem, no need for the bodies. We don't dare trade in the corpses of the Wolf Blood Species." Guy waved his hand.
"Haha, that's because you're too timid. In the past, many caravans engaged in this trade." The other party's tone relaxed slightly now.
"You can send three people with me; I'll show you the goods available for exchange."
Guy turned back, and Hexia and Flan came out to follow him.
Upon seeing Hexia among the three, the mature Fox-tail Species woman was slightly surprised and looked a bit longer.
"You're not ordinary traveling merchants, but I'm not curious enough to ask about your origins. Let's go." She said as she led them toward the camp.
Passing through the already damaged and collapsed wooden gate, the three entered the camp. There, they could still see many dead bodies of the Wolf Blood Species; some had bullet holes, and others bore knife wound marks. Quite a few Fox-tail Species were patrolling the camp, finishing off the dead and wounded Wolf Blood Species before dragging them to the center of the camp. Most wore thick leather coats, and many adorned rudimentary steel helmets. After the battle, some members removed their helmets, revealing rather expressive vertical ears.
The camp's members were nearly all combat-ready, and it was hard to distinguish between male and female from their appearance. These Fox-tail Species were quite good-looking and similar in appearance. Their numbers appeared to exceed several hundred, which explained why they could nonchalantly allow the trio to enter and inspect.
"Here are some weapons of the Wolf Blood Species, along with other items we've captured." The woman led them to an open tent where many members were coming and going, with curious glances resting momentarily on the group.
The tent contained a variety of newly collected weapons, mostly axes and knives, with a few short spears. The craftsmanship wasn't particularly great; in Hexia's eyes, the value mainly lay in the metal itself. Given the inconvenience of carrying and the weight, they were hardly worth trading for.
She turned her gaze to the side, where a pile of furs, oddly colored stones, and some air-dried salted fish were stacked.
"What are these stones?"
"Oh, those stones? They should be some kind of ore. In the past, Shilin Mountain Castle used to purchase them, but they probably don't anymore." The woman leaned against a wooden stake, currently lighting some sort of cigarette.
"If you want them, you'll have to trade something in return." She flicked her finger, igniting a flame at the end of the cigarette, which turned into a dark red glow as she inhaled.
"The dried fish on the other side too." Hexia continued.
"No problem. Now, tell me what you have to offer. You saw our camp; we are in great need of medicines, and if you have gunpowder and saltpetre, we will take them all." She exhaled smoke, turning around.
"We have some gunpowder, but it requires a sufficient amount of food in exchange." Hexia nodded.
"Sufficient food, huh, it's hard currency everywhere." She seemed a bit dissatisfied, not replying immediately, instead puffing on her cigarette.
"You guys, go fetch Lu Qing." It looked like she couldn't decide.
"Yes." Two members glanced at the trio before leaving the tent to call for someone.
Soon, a mature and voluptuous woman, dressed in a black silk off-shoulder luxurious outfit, arrived with her team. She smiled from her eyes, humor evident, and after reaching the camp, the accompanying black-uniformed combat members stood guard outside the tent while she led two others in bowing slightly to the trio before approaching the smoking woman.
"Nana, smoking again? I've told you not to do that in front of outsiders. It's not polite." She maintained a smiling demeanor, naturally and skillfully taking the cigarette from the woman's hand and handing it to a member behind her to extinguish it.
In the face of such behavior, the previously stern woman could now only look sheepish, offering no opposition.
Turning around, the Fox-tail Species woman, appearing in her early thirties with a mature aura yet still beautiful, began to inquire about the trio's purpose and the goods for exchange.
"So, it's you, Guy, and Miss Hexia." Surprisingly, she actually recognized the trio.
"How... how do you know my name?" Guy was a bit shocked. He was a nobody, so how could he be known here on the prairie?
"Hehehehe~ Of course, as the leader of the Fox-tail Species, some level of information networking is expected." Her eyes slightly narrowed, revealing an impeccable smile.
"It's actually not difficult you see, mainly because not long ago, I happened to hear Little Sister Chi Zhi mention you." It was only now that she revealed the truth. It turned out that the news came from the 'Red Pomegranate' settlement.
"Little Sister Chi Zhi mentioned the Elder Moose settlement and then you, especially Miss Hexia, with such a striking appearance and presence; it's hard to forget." She covered her mouth lightly with her sleeve.
"Since you've come all the way to the prairie, I assume you're quite short on food. I also know there has been a shocking upheaval at the eastern Shilin Mountain Castle recently."
