Chapter 0403: Mysterious Underground Passage_1
In an instant, the axe collided harshly with the sword. There wasn't the clang of metal Edward had anticipated, only a sharp CRACK.
His axe shattered, cleaved by Zhang Bin's Flying Sword Blood Fang as easily as tofu. Then, carrying a surging killing intent, the sword slashed toward Edward's waist.
"Ah..." Scared out of his wits, Edward's face twisted with an unprecedented level of horror.
Although he was powerful enough to rival a Late Gold Core Realm Cultivator, he was an American. How could he possibly comprehend the sharpness and terror of a Middle-Grade Flying Sword? In his wildest dreams, he never imagined Zhang Bin's flying sword could so easily chop through his axe.
His axe had been obtained from a relic site and was said to be a Low-grade Magical Treasure, extremely hard and capable of withstanding even a Cultivator's flying sword. His gloves, also treasures from a relic site, could withstand the slash of swords and sabres, as well as bombardment by thunder. Armed with these two treasures, he was like a tiger with wings—invincible.
But today, his axe was broken, and his life was forfeit. Still, he was an incredibly formidable expert. He shot backward, simultaneously using his Telekinesis Ability on Zhang Bin's sword in an attempt to stop it. Yet Zhang Bin's sword contained a terrifying force that he couldn't hinder in the slightest. It struck like lightning, viciously slashing into his waist.
The sword was so sharp it instantly sliced Edward in two. "Ah...!" He let out a bloodcurdling scream as the two halves of his body tumbled to the ground. Blood gushed out, staining the earth crimson.
"Zhang Bin, you... you have to save me! I'll definitely repay you! I have immense wealth, and I know many secrets..." Edward immediately shouted. Since he knew Zhang Bin's true identity as a miraculous doctor, he believed Zhang Bin might have the ability to save him. He clearly did not want to die.
"Edward, you're a vicious and malevolent man. You tried to kill me over a minor dispute during the World King of Gamblers Competition. We had no real feud," Zhang Bin said. "This is your retribution. It's not that I can't save you—even if I could, I wouldn't."
"I can't accept this!" Edward roared. "I curse you! I curse you to never escape this place! I curse you to a swift death!"
A terrifying curse descended upon Zhang Bin. His expression turned serious as he immediately activated his Pendant's Defensive Power. The Pendant glowed with a brilliant light, enveloping him and resisting the curse's invasion.
"Zhang Bin, my subordinates won't let you go! Your death will be even more miserable than mine!" Seeing the curse fail, Edward's anger flared one last time before his voice faded away.
Terrifyingly, the curse did not dissipate with his death. Instead, it intensified, clinging to Zhang Bin, determined to invade.
Zhang Bin was unfazed. Protected by the Pendant, he was safe for now. He promptly took Edward's Space Ring and gloves before meticulously searching the bodies of the dozen or so dead experts. To his delight, he found two more Space Rings and happily stored them away. He even collected Edward's broken axe. This is good material. Once my Cultivation reaches the Minor Tree Realm, I can use it to forge a Magical Treasure. Absurdly, after studying the machine that had been treating Edward, he collected that as well. I can probably sell this for a good price.
I should get going. The haul this time was huge, and I've accomplished my goal. A bright smile spread across Zhang Bin's face; he was in high spirits. He had exterminated many cruel members of the Hell Organization, including their leader, Edward. He had avenged the countless innocents they had slaughtered. How could he not be in a good mood?
Well, that was all just pretentious nonsense.
The truth was, his motivations weren't nearly so noble. He only fought back because Edward wanted to kill him and prevent him from returning to China. He'd never expected to get three Space Rings filled with treasures and wealth. That was the real reason for his great mood. This trip had been more than worth it.
"INTRUDER ALERT! INTRUDER ALERT!"
Just then, a piercing alarm blared. The power in Golden Sands Hospital was cut, deliberately severed to render many of the traps useless. It seemed the Americans guarding this place weren't fools. Immediately, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the halls. Genetically enhanced humans, superpower users, and cultivators swarmed in, beginning a carpet search.
If Zhang Bin were an ordinary cultivator with no special abilities, escaping tonight would have been incredibly difficult, as he was surrounded by too many powerful enemies. He immediately expanded his Divine Sense and bolted from the room, zigzagging through the corridors toward a specific location.
"Stop!" A genetically enhanced human spotted Zhang Bin and gave a frantic shout, chasing after him like a bolt of lightning. But Zhang Bin was too fast and agile. Although the genetically enhanced human was powerful, he couldn't keep up. Soon, more experts joined the pursuit.
However, just as they managed to corner Zhang Bin in an alley, he suddenly vanished like a ghost.
"How is this possible? How can that be?" All the genetically enhanced humans stared in disbelief.
In reality, Zhang Bin had used his Wall-Piercing Ability to burrow directly into the earth. Below was an abandoned passage that led straight to the biotech base. Tutu, of course, had discovered it after analyzing the base's layout. Not even the Americans knew of its existence; otherwise, they would have stationed experts to guard it. It was precisely because Zhang Bin knew of this escape route that he had dared to assassinate Edward.
Zhang Bin used his Wall-Piercing Ability to sink about ten meters, entering the tunnel. A bright Luminous Pearl suddenly appeared in his hand, bathing the passage in light as bright as day, allowing him to see clearly.
It was a magnificent tunnel, constructed entirely from some kind of white brick. The bricks were extremely hard, many times harder than stone. The surface was smooth, with joints so fine they were nearly imperceptible. The tunnel was about two meters wide and three meters high, and it sloped gently downward.
The air was stale, clearly having been sealed for a very long time. An ordinary person would have suffocated, but Zhang Bin was a powerful cultivator. He practiced the Qingmu Longevity Technique and possessed an incredibly strong life force, so by breathing slowly, he could manage just fine.
He moved forward, looking around with an expression of awe and amazement, muttering to himself, "This tunnel's construction surpasses modern humanity by countless years. Could it be that hundreds of millions of years ago, extraterrestrials really came to Earth? Or is this an ancient ruin built by an intelligent species native to the planet?"
